2  Economy / Computer hardware / Will Accept BTC and Doge for Custom GPU Rigs for Local Pickup - Chicago, IL USA on: February 22, 2014, 03:43:55 PM
Greetings fellow Bitcoiners!

I have been a crypto-enthusiast for going on a year now and I am ready to offer my services to the community. I have two GPU rigs running at the moment on Scrypt coins, and I am willing to sell the rigs I have in hand, or build and sell custom rigs. I am in the Chicago, IL, USA area.  For now I would rather not try to deal with shipping.  I'm asking for $1.10 per kh/s for the miners I have in hand, or $1.25 per kh/s for a custom built miner. I'm more than happy to accept BTC or Doge as payment!

Professionally I am a career educator, so I am very patient and willing to sit down with you if you are unfamiliar with crypto and explain how everything works. I will make sure that the miner I sell is configured right and ready-to-hash, and I will explain to you how to use it and how to keep it running right.  I have mined scrypt coins on several different types of cards using both Linux and Windows OS, I have mined BTC using ASIC hardware, I have managed exchange accounts, qt-clients, and a futures account on ICBIT. So basically I have some knowledge and expertise I am willing to share with anyone who is interested and willing to invest some money with me for hardware.

I think that GPU rigs are still a very good investment in crypto for two reasons. At the moment the scrypt coin economy is pretty stable. 1,000 kh/s will get you the equivalent of 0.010 - 0.015 BTC/day depending on which scrypt coin you choose. There are several coins that give at least this good of a return, which is great on its own. But then add the fact that GPUs can be resold for a very good portion of the original value, and that a mining rig can be re-purposed as a workstation or gaming rig. Personally I think I can offer a really good value, and if my apartment were rated to deliver more electricity without overloading my circuits, I would be building and mining off of more cards myself.

I am also willing to change crypto to USD in small transactions in-person, either buy or sell, up to $1,000 USD.

I know that the chances are slim that I will find potential customers advertising here. I will be running an ad on my local craigslist and maybe other places if I find them. I want to build a solid reputation that people can trust me with in-person buying and selling, and paying up front knowing that I will deliver custom built rigs. Hopefully when I have some positive transactions people can post their feedback here for the community to know that I am not a scammer, just an enthusiast who likes building custom rigs and wants to support the crypto-economy and make some money like everyone else.

Thanks for reading and happy coining everyone!
3  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Spam Invalid Transaction as Free Message Delivery? on: February 05, 2014, 09:19:44 PM
What happens when someone intentionally broadcasts an invalid transaction - a transaction from a wallet that has insufficient balance, for example. Does the intended recipient see the transaction, even though it's invalid? If there is a message attached to the transaction, does the intended recipient see the message?

In other words, can the bitcoin network be used to send nearly untraceable, possibly encrypted messages, for free?

You can voluntarily pay whatever fee you would like. If you go to your settings page you can change the donation percentages. Personally I donate .25% of all my earning back to the pool .10 Pool Hosting, .10 Pool Management, .05 Stats dev. I personally feel that mining for free on a pool is stealing from the operators time and monetary resources which is why I voluntarily pay a small fee.

I agree, so I pay 1.2% voluntarily because I really appreciate the level of the experience on Eligius. And I just sent an extra BTC tip to the stats address because of how much work it must have been to deal with the recent issues. If you've been paying zero fees and you appreciate the level of support and service on the pool, now is the time to bump up your contribution.

May I know what the min shares to achieve that you are targetting? It seems like you have a number in mind. I'll try to ask around here because bitcoin is not wellknown but increasing in interest.
Thanks

Sorry I was away from my desk this weekend.  I can commit to running the auction with 5.  Otherwise I'll either convert to a fixed price or cancel the sale and keep the proceeds myself.

Auction is closing early next week, with or without bids.
If I don't get at least a few more bids I'm going to have to cancel the sale and keep all of the shares  Sad
Compared with the other group buys people are participating in left and right (myself included) I thought this sounded like a pretty good deal, but I guess if there's no interest what can I do?
Thanks everyone for looking one way or another!

PM'd with the signed address.

Also, will you be hosting any other equipment on site with the Mercury?

I am also building a small collection of LTC miners, but as far as BTC equipment I have no plans to add more.

buy 1 share @ 1btc
Thanks, Elite Smiley
Would you mind sending a PM signed with the BTC address you will use?
Also feel free to edit your post if you change your mind and you want your bid price to be hidden.

...this could explain both BFLs ability to produce AND ship actual units, but without any significant volume.  We also know that Josh may think similar to the above, even trying to pass it off as a 'burn-in' test to make sure the devices work.

Exactly!  I find that pattern of behavior extremely suspect.  Burn-in testing?  Like hell!

I bid 1 share at --- USD via paypal.

Thank you, aoshea, could you please send a PM and sign with your receiving BTC address?

I will start the countdown!

If you change your mind about staying anonymous / hiding your bid price, you can edit your post  Smiley

Will you accept USD bids for shares?

I can accept bids and PayPal payments in USD and convert to BTC if that's convenient.

If there's any dispute or reversal I will refund the money and cancel the shares and the payouts.  There will be a deadline on receiving payment so that the payment couldn't be reversed after the BTC payouts were sent.
14  Economy / Economics / cB or 1/100 BTC - Convenient Unit Right? on: July 20, 2013, 03:11:33 AM
cBTC or 1/100th of a BTC would be a convenient unit given the BTC/USD/EUR exchange rates.  I mean instead of saying 0.0327 BTC I could say 3.27 cBTC or 'centibits'.

Just putting that out there.

You mentioned:
OFFERING DETAILS
- There are no fees on top of this because I will take the operational expenses out of the shares I keep for myself.

I am confused on the number of shares you are keeping. You are selling 25 shares at 4ghs each, right? or, is it less?

Sorry I missed this question.  Hopefully the comment I left above answers it.  The reason I can't say exactly how many I will keep is because I don't know exactly how many bids I will get.  If I only get a few bids I'll accept them and then I'll just have to keep all of the rest since no one is buying them.  Make sense?
16  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] [AUCTION] KnC Mercury USA 1/25 Shares ~4Gh/s *ORDERED***PAID* on: July 18, 2013, 02:38:27 PM
Tell us how many of those 25 belong to you

Hey damiano... The shares are each 4% of the miner (1/25, ~4Gh/s) no matter how many I keep.  All 25 belong to me as of right now because the miner is paid and my address is on the order.  But if you want to own a piece, just make me a reasonable offer  Smiley

My ideal outcome would be to keep 5 and sell 20 for around 80-100 USD (1.0-1.5 BTC) each.  BTC bids I will have to accept depending on the USD exchange rate since I paid for the miner in USD.  But I might not get interest for 20, I might only get bids for 10.  Or if the bidding goes way up for all 25 shares (wishful thinking maybe  Tongue ) I will sell all 25 and use the proceeds to upgrade the miner.

Not yet, stex...
I would like to start the countdown to the auction close when I get the first bid.  Does 2 weeks sound right?
The longer time passes, the more it adds value to know that the order is already in the delivery queue!
18  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Inside the ASIC companies? on: July 16, 2013, 05:34:43 PM
ASIC companies don't mind having to ship product without mining with it first.  Why?  The sooner they ship the sooner difficulty goes up, and the sooner their first ASIC customers return seeking more ASICs to keep profitability up.  Selling gear is guaranteed instant profit.  Even better when customers prepay and you have money in the bank before shipping.  Using the units to mine always carries risk as bitcoin could crater and be worth $1 tomorrow with the company left with a lot of useless gear no one would want.

It seems to me like the economics of the situation would drive demand for new ASIC *down* as difficulty goes up, unless there is an offsetting change in the relevant exchange rates.  If I were Avalon, I would want difficulty to remain as low as possible for as long as possible to keep demand for the pre-orders up.  If a 100 Gh/s miner gets only 0.5 BTC per month or less, what sane person would pay 20BTC+ for one?

If I were an ASIC manufacturer/distributor holding miners today, I would just mine and mine until the exact point in time where the miners are profitable for the consumers (barely) given the price and difficulty.  Then I would ship.
19  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Inside the ASIC companies? on: July 13, 2013, 05:54:08 PM
I have a theory that over the next few months the difficulty might not increase as much as expected as ASIC units ship to consumers. Basically I think these machines are already online. So when they ship from KnC, BFL, BitFury, Avalon, they aren't really going online for the first time.

Any way we can really know if the ASIC miners are mining already, or do we just take their word that they'll ship as soon as they physically exist?  From the company's perspective shipping without mining a bunch of BTC first is like throwing money away.

Thanks! I was inspired by your success obviously, Mog. If I don't get any takers, I guess I'll have to take delivery of my miner and hope the BTC revenue makes up the initial expense and who knows? Maybe a lot more :-)
