Aeon is a good coin, i hold it for ages...but it is being driven by the Asic's these days and there is no re-base forseen in the near future. Meanwhile i will turn my attention to other good Monero forks like Sumo and Masari.

The rebase is happening sometime in the next month or so from what I understand. If you held so long, why jump ship now?

Re-base fork is set for 28 May or thereabouts. See https://www.reddit.com/r/Aeon/comments/8is3q2/state_of_the_aeon_friday_may_11th_smooth_xmr/.

Time to dump your rare earth metal stocks boys  Cheesy

It will take 5-10 years to get to production and even then will be very expensive mining operation. RBW (LON) is still worth a look as is 80% Nd and Pr and mining ops are in Africa.

I'm still against the idea of bounty, at least for this rebase, and am refusing to take the reward.

I would disagree against both points, the bounty was needed to get this long awaited rebase across the line, AEON needed this rebase badly. As per the original bounty terms it was not set out as winner takes all but a shared bounty, from my view smooth is spot on with his decision to select your rebase submission.

The Redditard threads are to be ignored, all working rebase submissions will receive reward, it would seem from Reddit it is a who can piss the furthest competition rather than who produced the best code. You have produced the best code, as per peer review, you should take your portion of the bounty award as you duly deserve it.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: February 17, 2018, 10:28:05 AM
Some people who participated in the bounty said their code was copied and they will not take the issue sitting down.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Aeon/comments/7y0wnj/smooth_declares_stoffus_pr_as_the_winning/

While I agree in smooth's decision in choosing stoffu's code over the rest, I reckon Dr.Paradoxical and his team will cause some drama for claiming that their code was stolen by stoffu.

This will not be good for the price. Prepare for operation buy Aeon hehehe.

Open source code stolen  Roll Eyes. Horseshit drama Smiley

Smooth has already confirmed all teams who submitted working rebases will be rewarded from the bounty. Storm in a teacup by developers who should know better; stoffu has stated in reddit comments he will not take his portion of the bounty reward; that is unfair and he should b justly rewarded as per terms of the bounty
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: February 16, 2018, 10:22:02 AM
It seems now we have 3 teams fighting for who will made the best rebase and claim the bounty. To bad this effort was not made earlier to catch 2017 crypto hype.  But on the other hand we would get earlier Monero code then. With less improvements.

stoffu's rebase has been declared the Functionally Complete Rebase by Smooth and is now RC1. See post on AEON ANN thread.

Very good news, stoffu's rebase has been declared the Functionally Complete Rebase by Smooth

Source: https://github.com/aeonix/aeon-rebase/pull/4

"iamsmooth
Noting for the benefit of people contributing to this PR and the previous one that the current plan is to declare this method the winner both for bounty purposes (as decided by bounty sponsors) and also accepted for eventual adoption as the main AEON codebase.

Other submissions will be declared runners up, will also receive a portion of the bounty, and are encouraged to submit their value-add, if any, as individual PRs following the conclusion of the rebase task."

Congrats to stoffu, I get from his reddit comments he was not driven by the bounty, however the bounty has been highly effective in galvanising the effort for the re-base which lacked progress before the bounty was set by Smooth from the developer fund and the kind donations from katiecharm and exciter0. Looking at moneromooo's review comments it does seem that stoffu has minimized the changes to the Monero code in his rebase submission which I believe is the correct approach to allow Aeon to benefit from Moneros continued development but will also allow Aeon to flourish with potentially new independent features which will be more mobile focused through AEON's own development community.

Hopefully developers from the competing Dr. Paradoxical team and slb will come together with Smooth & stoffu and assist re-base testing to get to main-net and also drive forward future AEON development.

On wards and upwards for AEON  Smiley

That is good news. I hope they find a good developer for the code rebase. Also, I would feel much safer for Aeon if the rebase was done by someone from the Monero development team.

In any case, here is a chart update. Aeon is fighting back!

Would be interested in the updated chart; guessing the current price of 50k+ satoshi is over the top of your current trend lines?

The developers for the re-base have gone very quite and I'm not sure if that is bad news or good news.

Crypto market cap supposedly 750 billion.  It will be 1 trillion within a couple of days.

This is just the fuel needed for the BTC rocket reload as money will flood back from ripple etc; perhaps a new WO guessing game should be the date for when BTC dominance next exceeds 60%?

TBH I am disappointed that smooth was not further on with the rebase. However, that aside and the fact that what appears is a hugely encouraging community effort in attracting talented developers on board, it is very positive news from r/Aeon that we will likely have the rebase from the current monero codebase fork in Q1 2018. With smooth engaging to control the rebase this is massively positive @ https://www.reddit.com/r/Aeon/comments/7lrsmx/guidelines_for_rebasing_efforts

Some say Bitcoin is gold to Litecoin silver. Some say Monero is gold to Aeon silver. Today, approximately, Litecoin is 1/50th value of bitcoin, Aeon is 1/100th value of Monero. Litecoin has 4:1 coin circulating supply of Bitcoin. Aeon has 1:1 coin circulating supply of Monero. Your trend-line may need some positive readjustment if the rebase delivers Smiley

The amazing thing is, I don't doubt smooth will deliver on the rebase and it will be awesome. I do, however, have my qualms about when it will be released and how many satoshis it will be worth. Holding AEON is great for what it stands for but if you want to maintain your BTC holdings, it might be too risky right now.

I have zero doubt that smooth will deliver, better to deliver right than early, what is key is what happens within the community after the rebase. Bounty's will be the fuel but the community will be the fire.

The problem for today HODLers is satoshi loss, if we go through two more BTC/ALT pump cycles without rebase, maybe 4-5 months, perhaps then we have unrecoverable Satoshi.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: December 19, 2017, 08:33:40 PM

The BTC inhale is what is keeping me cautious. When we had that amazing run in Sept-Oct, holding before then was easy since buying BTC was still reasonably attainable. Nowadays, losing BTC is very disheartening since .4 of one is more than one from before Sept.

Agreed; I'm cautionary and probably at the end of my accumulation for now; however the risk / reward of AEON is worth continuing to HODL long-term IMHO. The potential of AEON in the coming years is incredible if the rebase delivers what I think it may.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: December 19, 2017, 03:10:14 PM
No, 11k - 12k will happen only if more holders dump, which is not a possibility for now. Also, the Aeon community is still hopeful, and in general, happy except for a few people like sammy007. I reckon he may have already dumped some of his coins on Bittrex.

In any case, I hope you are right. I noticed the community subscribers for the AEON sub has been starting to pick up as well. IMHO the sub 15k prices would happen if the rebase takes longer than Q1 2018, BTC is showing tremendous growth.

Reckon we will stay channelled in the 15k-25k range until news of the re-base emerges though there is strong support currently at 20k on Bittrex. I'd still be cautious as to going lower than 15k in Jan; depends how far the next BTC inhale goes after the current alt run is done.

Also very interested in what MA has to say with regard the relationship between a potential crypto high and gold low.

I'm still on the fence with gold longer term but if we do dip below $1,050 oz then I will definitely diversify a reasonable portion of crypto holdings into gold stocks and coinage to hedge against the incoming financial crisis.

Would not be surprised if MA actually reads this thread!
15  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 01, 2017, 01:13:15 PM
Do you know why Bitcoin is doomed to reach one million per coin?
Because that way everybody will probably don't mind paying CG on a single bitcoin.

 Cool

On a different note...
considering all the many txs I made and all the different adds I used and all the keys/wallet that I compromised (yes, that happens as well you all know that) I don't even fucking remember how many BTC I touched in my life.
How on Earth am I supposed to pay CG?

[Money out] minus [money in]

Everything else is a wash.

That's my thinking too.  There's no way I could provide details of every transaction I've made over the last 4 years, especially bct to alts to btc, etc.  And also considering that there's now no way for me to access any records from Mt.Gox.  So presumably the tax authorities (HMRC in UK) would reasonably accept the "$out minus $in" figure. That's my hope anyway.  But still, paying Capital Gains Tax on crypto profits would grate, a lot.

Just wondering if anyone here has yet made a CGT return to HMRC and how it was dealt with? They're massively under-staffed (up to 45 minute waiting time when phoning them, if you manage to get through at all).  My guess is that they would accept pretty much whatever method you decide to use (i.e. a "$out minus $in" figure) as long as it seems justifiable, and they would only rarely investigate further to see if your figures are accurate, in the way that usually just accept at face value most people's regular self-assessed tax returns. I doubt they have the resources to do anything further.

Has anyone here actually dealt with HMRC yet regarding btc profits? It would be interesting to hear about your experiences.

I have been working on it with a lot of advice from my accountant.

Pay the CGT, as if they look and find anything you are sunk.

You'd better hope they accept just CGT - if they consider it 'trading' then it's TAx at your highest rate - up to 45% if it's enough money.

CGT will be 20% max and you get over £11K GBP free of tax before you pay a penny.  You can deduct the costs of the coins you bought - so you only pay the difference as a taxable gain.

I very much doubt you will get away with 'gambling' - and yes, I have asked this question.  My accountant laughed.

I still don't know if I will just pay CGT - It's difficult to PROVE you are not a trader, and they decide - not you!

That's my thinking to... [Money out] minus [money in]...  and pay the 20% CGT minus the £11k allowance to HMRC

You can bet the house they will go hard on crypto once it is a multi trillion market as governments synchronise after ramp in/out records en-mass
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: November 29, 2017, 10:28:46 PM
Several years as a lurker first time poster on BCT and like the now hacked AmericanPegasus this is a slightly intoxicated first post.

In $ terms the past years have been incredible in BTC / XMR / LTC and every shit coin going. Personally I refuse to profit from any coin which is an ICO or or premine bull-shitcoin but I have been lucky enough to benefit from a modest $ investment in aforementioned coins.  However when the tide goes out all shit coin holders will be found within their pants down so I intend to hold  BTC / XMR and one other coin long term.

Probably like most ppl on BCT I prefer to read and think than type. My first introduction to Aeon was from following through interactions between Anonymint and Smooth back in 2015. I did not venture into Aeon until recently; why though? I do think BTC will be long term store of value but alts will be the medium of exchange. But what alts will be the winners among a plethora of fraudulent shit? Everyone has a smartphone as their computer,  almost every smart individual wants privacy away from the tax man etc? In all the 100's of alts  I have looked at in any detail; Aeon is my big outside bet as becoming a Top 50 coin (joining BBC.reporter etc)

 Why be bullish?
- as much as one can in crypto I trust smooth as an anonymous indentiy aeons more than I trust corporate teams to act for a community
- The early interactions of the original BCT Aeon thread between smooth, AmericanPegasus and others demonstrate foresight into the long term vision for community growth / trust
- no ICO or premine - no fouls of securities laws and; thanks to an early miner there is a huge developer fund of 400k Aeon to help with bountys etc (in trust held by smooth)
- privacy & mobile  - why should anyone know what is in your wallet or where it has been. Come another banking crisis and the move to privacy crypto could be exponential. The need to spend crypto without tax implications will increase the market for all privacy crypto
- rebase - honestly Aeon is 0 without a code rebase. Probably 5x current market cap with a code rebase - $20-$30 range. Longer term Aeon has the potential to be 5-10% of XMR and I'm bullish on XMR which I think will go to $1000+ by end of 2018.  In every post I have seen from smooth I 100% support that approach to provide minimal information for speculation. When the rebase is complete and tested then release. All current speculation is in reality trust in smooth.

In full disclosure in recent weeks I have bought 6k Aeon and hope to add more if we go back below 30k satoshi.
