More details required. Which wallet you are using? Is the wallet up to date? Synchronized?
i just closed electrum and launched it again and then the coins appeared. i didnt know i have to restart electrum wallet after every transaction. but this is good to know! thank you!

You were probably disconnected from the network, hence why nothing was updated. As far as i know there's absolutely no need to reboot electrum every time you get a transaction.

The node you were using might went down, and you forgot to reconnect to another one?

Was this green dot by any chance red?

no it was green. But i was in airplane mode yesterday by mistake(a key on my keyboard switches to airplane mode) so maybe that effected it. but it was green when i looked at it.

Do they mean 20,000 active balance or do they mean if you purchase coins in coinbase at any time in 2015 your info is now sent to the irs?

I purchased 7 bitcoins in 2015 for $300 i think. so  $2100 worth....

now they would be worth over 70 grand!!!! so upset i know. but i been sold these on localbitcoins and i forgot my login and password to that site. so no proof that i sold them for only a few hundred....

confused if im rerpoted to the irs?? if i bought 7 bitcoins in 2015.. (they were worth less than 20 grand total. at the time)

Is this a 2fa wallet? Does it say 2fa or 2factor authentication in the electrum window title?
no its not.

I am trying to send bitcoins with my electrum wallet, tbut receive" error:server did not answer"

it is not version related, and you don't need seed or private key or recovery or anything. this error simply means there has been some problem with your communication with the Electrum Node (the server) that you are connected to.

possible reasons? you have connectivity issues on your end. the server may have gone down or was not listening for incoming tx messages when you tried broadcasting.

solution? simply change server! it usually happens automatically when Electrum fails to communicate with the servers.

workaround? use the Preview window and instead of clicking "Broadcast" click on "Copy". this will copy your signed transaction to clipboard (you can paste it in a text file to see what it is). now go to any of these https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_broadcasting paste your transaction hex there and push it.
good info. And hmm I am using a VPN for extra safety since i have a wallet in my pc so maybe the vpn messed with the connection who knows. Thank you for the  information. i will save the website in case this happens again and another srever doesnt work. really appreciated.

Can you give me your bitcoin address where your $40 in btc save?
Are you sure that your electrum wallet is not watch only? If you save the private key or seed phrase you can try to re-install electrum wallet..
Let me know if what OS you are using? If you are running windows 10 you should download the latest version of electrum wallet http://download.electrum.org/ 3.0 version
and recover your seed phrase after installed the latest version and try again if you  can send your bitcoin..
yea its not watch online.  I never saved the private key , is that important? I just saved the seed phrase that it told me to write down.

Also im using winows 7. my friend suggested that i have to low of a bitcoin balance to try sending $100 more... So i did.. I sent $100 more it went through.. Then i sent $120 to my coin base account and it went through... was weird...  so i guess im fixed.. but still paranoid to put big money in it for things like this happening.

i have the latest version. 3.0 i just downloaded it off the site a few days ago but my wallet works now i just needed more money to be able to send for some reason.

I installed it 2 days ago. I received $40 USD as practice. And now i was gonna send it back to my coin base wallet but i get this error so now i have $40 locked in the elctrum wallet...

servers are configured to automatically connect in the network. i am not sure what else to do .
