1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer L3+ OVERCLOCKED !!! HOT !!! full review with LOTs of pics on: March 04, 2018, 10:07:36 AM
Been running for like half a year or so like this.

I would NOT recommend overclocking any other Bitmain product like this, only L3 can do this primary because its not as much a prosessor heavy algo but more memory hard.

That's a cool admin/management tool you have there.  What system that?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Innosilicon A4+ setup tutorial on: March 02, 2018, 09:51:43 AM

I just tried it with one of my A4+ and it bricked the box.  I performed the upgrade through the GUI as one normally would, but upon the automatic restart, it wouldn't come back up.  Couldn't even ping the box.  I walked over to the unit and saw that all lights were off on the hashoard with the fault red light on the controller.  I power cycled (i figured it was safe to since it was about 30 mins since the upgrade ended) all the lights came back on as one would expect.  After about 2 mins of sitting there, all the hasboard lights turned off.  My guess is that the controller upgrade failed and now is corrupted.

Will need to run out and grab a tfcard from the store to see if upgrading via the slot works.  for now, i'll switch all the hasboard cables over to another miner so I don't lose hashrate.  Definitely hold back on the new firmware...let some guinea pigs try it for several weeks first.  Don't get burned like I did.

Before this, had upgraded to 0129 with no issues and running several weeks.

this is embarrassing.  turns out the IP got reset to the static 192.168.1.254.  can confirm the new firmware is hashing now.  i don't notice any difference though.  if i find any difference, I'll report back here.

Hi folks,

there is a new Update .bin http://www.innosilicon.com/html/downA4/
update_180209t1108.bin

someone tested ?

Where are the temp sensors and what would happen if the Ethernet side and power side were reversed flow?

Interested in reversing the airflow also. Anybody try this yet?
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Better temps with inverted airflow on Antminer S9 ? on: February 19, 2018, 11:54:11 PM

I'm going to explain the situation;

Because of the config of the rack where  I have my miners (with the cables on the back -hot aisle-)
when I got my S9's I inverted the fans of the miner effectively changing the airflow direction...

any thoughts on this?

Any update on this?  Interested in doing the same thing...
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Medium Size Farm Buildout on: February 12, 2018, 05:53:21 AM

I am approx. 85% completed with the shed in my opinion though. Thank you to everyone who has commented and been patient as I get the video ready. Once you see the completed video, you will be happy.

My house is super quiet now that I moved those rigs to the shed to test the temps and stuff haha.

So...I gotta ask.  Did you let the wife know what the 'new' ROI is going to be with the price and difficulty changes?  Things have looked alot different now compared to when this thread was started.

Either way, more power to the adventurous.  Good luck!

Hello

I have 34 * s9 currently available at reykjavik iceland. in a data center. its working and currently mining.

if anybody interested i am ready to sell.

out of curiosity, why are you selling?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 580 4Gb vs 8Gb on: February 10, 2018, 11:55:11 PM
The point of 8GB over 4GB is that you will be able to resell these at a higher price. i.e. they will keep their resale value more than 4GB.

If resale value doesn't matter to you, then yes buy whatever you want.  Hashrates don't depend on the size of memory.  They depend on the overclockability of it.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Innosilicon A4+ setup tutorial on: February 02, 2018, 05:13:51 AM
For anyone curious, you can turn these A4+'s into A6s. The control board has enough ports for 8 hashboards and 4 fans. I changed over 30 A4s so I only have to monitor 15 ASICs now. Way better. The inno support guy gave me an older firmware that supports it, the latest only ran 6 boards total. He said there should be a new firmware today or tomorrow that supports all 8 again.

Thanks, update_180129 appears to have no issues running all 8 chains.

Just made the exact same change to 10 miners today. Appears to work just great! Along with halving the work upkeeping them, the best benefit (IMHO) is having spare controller boards now. Smiley
I use separate PSUs for each tube, and this has no negative impact either.

FYI, I did the 0129 upgrade on 10 A4+ today and it seemed to all go smoothly.  I did notice that one of my boxes was running 471 hash rate so I took a look and found that the ASC2 card was missing from the miner status/minerinfo section.  I made sure all the cables, power and data ribbon were all secured and the LED shows the board is getting power.  I upgraded the firmware (0129) twice again to no avail.  So I'm wondering what I should try next.  I cannot say with certainy if this was caused by the firmware...I have a feeling not because the 24 hashrate shows as 465 on the monitoring page (i didn't bother to look before i guess).

Any ideas on what to do next?

Makes sense.  thanks for the reply

ps, they look nicer also.  seems more compact.

Hi there,

What's the advantage over the S9?  The Avalon 821 is slower, around the same power consumption/TH, and is quiet a bit more expensive than the S9 even when you factor in a 2-3 week earlier ship date.

Can someone fill me in?  Thanks!

14  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM ALERT] Great North Data uses extortion to force clients out on: January 29, 2018, 09:00:29 AM
“If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a Ponzi scheme.”

Charlie Lee said that and I'm pretty sure it applies here.  I don't doubt your miners are hard at work right now, too bad they are pointing to the pool and account of his choice.  So not only is your miner safe and sound, he's making money off power you've prepaid for them.  Do you really think anybody is going to leave profitable ASIC miners just sitting on the floor of the warehouse?  There's alot of small companies running this kind of scam in the US.  I have no doubt these guys had a business plan initially and it all just sort of took on a life of it's own after financial troubles/price of bitcoin going insane.

The guy is a lawyer after all.  I'm guessing he made no commitments and SLA as to when they would be plugged in and for how long.  $75/hour labor...my God.  Hell has a special kind of place for people like this.  I hope you all get what's owed to you, and at minimum your mining equipment back.
15  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Brand New Antminer S9 that won't do anything. on: January 28, 2018, 11:43:35 PM
just leave it alone for 10 mins.  sometimes it takes awhile to start hashing. and yes, mine showed up without the firmware version number displayed as well.  Real strange...but it does work if you leave it alone.

Let me know how it goes from here.
16  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Bitcoin Mining Deal !!!! 21 Bitmain Machines on: January 28, 2018, 11:12:56 PM
It's really a pity that there are so many scammers, though, I guess there is so much money to be made that it makes sense the conmen wanna get in on the action.  I've actually been trying to figure out how to offload mine as well.  I have some Innosilicon A4+ that I'm able to (barely) get all running in my house. So funny to see you ran make shift wiring to your kid's play room... I'm basically doing the same thing.  I have 7 running in my garage and 3 plugged in my bedroom which only run when my wife and I are out of the house or at work.  At night obviously we have to sleep.  I'm pretty close to the limit on my breaker box so I've kinda been staying close to home these last several weeks.  I'm scratching my head on what to do with the 60 S9s that are supposed to arrive at my doorstep.  I've heard they draw twice the power and produced twice the heat.  My original plan was to get a warehouse or something in Oregon or Washington where power is cheaper than San Francisco where I am and run everything remotely.  But frankly, lately I've kind of just fell off the mining bandwagon... It's allot of work.  And the wife-effect is for real brothers... Hell hath no fury like a woman's hate for the constant droning sound of these machines.

So like you, I'm trying to figure out how to offload all these things. I hope it all turns out ok for you.  I have a couple weeks or something to figure what I'm going to do with my S9s when they arrive. Until then, the A4+ are heating my home for free + a bit of profit. Hopefully if I post, I'll get someone that's serious enough to fly/drive out and pick these up suckers up in person.

PS, on a side note, someone should do the math on how much these things are heating up the Earth's atmosphere.  Just think 1 million of these things running on Earth..... It's crazy.

Update:  Here's some (humorous pics) for your enjoyment.  Admittedly, your setup was more nicely stacked than mine.  You can see I'm running the bitmain PSUs with the A4+s...they can output 1000W on 115V and the A4+ only draws 750W so it works out quite well.

Have you calculated if you'll make a profit (ROI) with the current difficulty?

I am not going to sell the S9's until I have a UPS Tracking Number on the A8's. If I had 4 more coming, I would mine with them until then. Too much opportunity out there mining and accumulating BTC to be near sighted. The Fundamentals of BTC have not changed. There will only ever be 21,000,000. 4 million have been lost forever into the ethers. 16 million total population of BTC ever to be created and a 7 billion human market. It doesn't get any more Inelastic than that. If I were you, I would Fire them puppies up. MINE ON WITH KANO-SAN!! The best little Bitcoin mining pool on earth.

Yep, I hear you on that one.  Get the product in hand and then sell the S9's.   I like this scenario quite a bit.

Hi guys,

I'm wondering what's the reasoning behind selling the S9s to buy some A8s?  Are there any technical reasons (faster, lower power consumption, better return, higher MTBF, etc) or is it purely because people are willing to pay an arm and a leg for S9s and perhaps not so much for A8s (and if not so much, why not?)

Also, if I'm interested in adding 100 units of hashing power (it'll be more about the space than power for me) come Q1 or Q2, what would be my best bet in terms of availability and pricing?  The Avalons or Antminers...or something else?  Thanks in advance for the replies guys..
