The version of Ethereum Casper you're referring to, Friendly Finality Gadget (FFG), was recently depreciated in favor of a mixed Sharding and PoS concept. The account he linked is mine, but I have never done an escrow via that website. If the buyers wants to go that route make sure I verify it here...not sure what weaknesses that site has.
The site has been around quite awhile, I'm frankly surprised more people on bitcointalk haven't used it. At any rate, if you'll provide local escrow then we can skip using the third party site. It's actually funny.. We're choosing to trust the persona of your account rather than a trustless escrow system with multisig.. but whatever. |

I am the original owner of this Casascius coin. I haven't followed the market lately so I'm not sure what it's worth but I'm just looking for fair market value. The coin has been graded by ANACS and they have pics on file, I have never felt like their picture does the coin justice. It shows two white scratches on the hologram that I simply do not observe. The coin is exactly what you'd expect for a MS65, please interpret the coin based on all of the images. Some images show blotches that just don't appear in other images - please just use your good judgement. Don't worry man, some people are just earning their signature counts asking obvious, yet technically appropriate questions. Is there a way you can get a picture of the coin, on an angle, so we can see what that mark on the BTC is? I realize the grading from ANACS is the "insurance policy" but more pictures will help your sale, gives people less to worry about, thus motivating more people to participate in the bidding (which magically increases the sale price!) For reference, one of these coins graded MS65 by ANACS (who else?) is being offered for BTC6.54 on another auction site. I think you have your MS67 it priced to sell...people should get in on this great deal! Yeah, I do think it's fair to give people enough information to be able to make a fair offer. I'll get the coin tomorrow and post additional pictures. |

This is certainly a nice coin and the only one I've seen in this grade(so far). For brass, it's very good.
However, please spare us some agony and have a clue about the current market, especially noting the difference between the price of BTC in July 2013 when this was sold and now. Back then 1BTC was around $90, and now it's over 3x that.
I'd estimate the market price should be about 6.5BTC for it, based on current BTC value as well as the fact that MS-66 versions command roughly 5BTC in today's market, and MS-65 can be had for under 4BTC Granted a 67 for brass is very good, but grades have been coming back higher lately so this most likely will not soon be the only of its kind.
Edit: and you're right AT, I didn't originally notice the mark on the B. Hopefully it's just a mark on the slab, but if its on the coin this should be a much lower grade, and my 66 should then be a 68...
You're right - I may have started the auction with an overzealous starting price.. My apologies about the "agony" comment. I'll remove the minimum of 40 and see where it goes. My price-history recollection isn't awesome. I imagined we were near $200 in July, 2013 when we were actually near $90. There is no chunk missing from the B... I'm not sure why that picture looks so rough, especially considering it's an official ANACS pic. The coin is pristine. If some actual offers/bids turn up I'll pull it out of storage for a better look. I had 10 coins graded in the same batch and this is the highest grade with the poorest quality pic... go figure. |

The real question is: Does ANYONE know who he is, or is he truly anonymous? It's conceivable that his family, co-workers, or project contributors know who he is; it's also believable that he is the only one who knows his identity. I can imagine LOTS of people developing software and working on a project where no one else really knows what they're working on.

agreed. its the equivalent of telling some one "here is the very first iPod, but it will cost you $350 to try it, if it works well, we will release 450 million iPods, but at a cheaper price." There is only 44 million coins out in the wild out of a possible 500 million. The devs should release a block of coins, say 20 million, and put a sell wall well below the current market price say 4k SAT or even cheaper. it shouldn't cost 1.5 BTC to participate in a beta. They would still raise money, get more people involved in the beta, which will look amazing in regards to media and advertising. It will get more people involved... but can everyone's computers handle any problems that may occur, thats why Storj only wants those that can handle any problems that may happen and can give valuable feedback... so you are saying that the only way Storj can ensure beta testers give valuable feedback is by making it cost prohibitive for people to participate? Having money doesn't mean you are smarter. You can always get one person with 10,000 STJX who will give bad feedback. Also, you want things to break during the beta phase, so issues can be addressed before public release. You don't to find out that storj has problems with 1000 nodes if the beta phases was only completed with 100 due to the 1.5 BTC "buy-in" required to participate. There are plenty of people here who could contribute valuable time and energy to this project, but will choose not to participate due to the 10,000 STJX required. Sometimes we're lucky enough to hop on board early, and sometimes we get stuck playing catch-up... It's all part of the game. 10,000 SJCX is cost prohibitive, but it sets a fair barrier of entry for those who are really invested in the project. (No, I don't have 10,000 SJCX... still debating whether I can afford it - prob not.) |

The main question remains - whether "decentralization" is really something that people value. I would not be suprised if people stay at Dropbox/Google. This is something I started to notice a while ago - people involved in crypto tend to overestimate decentralization. And crowd.. just does not care. So if there is no demand for decentralized storage - storjcoin price will go down. If there is demand - it will go up. Doesn't really matter what early adopters would do.
Even if people don't value decentralization, increased redundancy and higher privacy, they will value cheaper storage! I don't believe the majority of the public is currently aware of the need for decentralization or privacy, but when they find out that it's faster and cheaper than the competitors they'll jump on without thinking twice - i.e. they'll do what's in their best interest without even being aware of it. |
