1  Bitcoin / Mining support / setting up a proportional pool, where do i begin? on: September 30, 2013, 05:10:56 PM
thank you for a quick reply, Graet. my plan was prop because in that case i, as the pool owner, will never go bankrupt since payout amount is always the same and does not depend on round luck which is just the same lottery as sdice or anything.
i planned to make a pool with limited registration and monitor it so that users will mine fairly(no botnets, no constant hopping in when hashrate is low). i have to create a valid TOS for this. do you think it worths a try?
i didn't dig into other reward systems currently used, but since they are all based on PPS, so i can't really play this casino without being afraid of going low, is that correct? so i thought maybe i'll set up a proportional pool and keep an eye on it while i can so that it will be fair for both miners and myself.
2  Bitcoin / Mining support / setting up a proportional pool, where do i begin? on: September 30, 2013, 04:03:55 PM
hello.

so, what i would like to do.
 1. proportional reward pool
 2. tx fees from found block are a pool comission (only block generation reward (25 atm) is shared with miners)
 3. support stratum protocol only
 4. (optional) tweakable share difficulty on user request with default of 1.

do i understand it correct that pool backend such as eloipool or pushpoold do NOT handle payouts and i have to create my own "rewarder" along with web frontend? that is, requirements number 1 and 2 are out of question here?
for the beginning, what is my choice for pool server? can eloipool do it?
as soon if i get some clarity i'll get back here with configs i would like to use and probably a request for mining help of 1-4 shares (i'm short on hardware here) on the testnet.
test platform will be debian

i'm relatively new to bitcoin and never hosted a pool before although i know how mining and network works, aside from binary protocol.
this will just be an experiment, mostly because i enjoy learning how bitcoin works. i am not sure if i can make it to the real pool or whatever.

since you telling you do have a disk space...
make sure your wallet.dat is not corrupt: copy it manually to an external drive or something, or if you can open client, do it ALSO with a client, then close client and free some disk space. if you never had and not expecting any BTC to any address in your wallet in the first place don't worry about it that much at the moment.

double-check if your binaries are not broken(redownload, reinstall the client files). if it doesn't help a problem, i would suggest testing your disk and memory. (for disk in Linux we always get io errors in syslog, i'd think windows would do the same, in the "event log" of "computer management")

can you elaborate?
begin from looking up your own bitcoin address via blockchain.info search to ensure if it's gone or not, and where, it will show you any transaction that already accepted by the network. just use the search field.
it's correct that if you really sent your btc they can't get back to you unless receiver will send them back.

hello people, pleased to meet you!

too bad i noticed BTC only this year, and in the exact peak of interest to it Cheesy

well, anyway
just today i finally learned how to use create and use raw transactions.
the only things i might not yet know about btc tech side is the depths of protocol and maintaining a miner pool. also i'm a linux user so i don't know how that works on windows.
you can ask me anything aside from that. hope you can prove i was wrong about knowing anything Cheesy its very fun to explore btc system, especially in the course of current happenings.

i'm currenly waiting on testnet block 101602 to confirm, after that, if you need a testnet btc i can send few to you. it's relatively simple to mine a testnet block but still might take about a day or more for next 120 blocks to be found.
