thank you for a quick reply, Graet. my plan was prop because in that case i, as the pool owner, will never go bankrupt since payout amount is always the same and does not depend on round luck which is just the same lottery as sdice or anything.
i planned to make a pool with limited registration and monitor it so that users will mine fairly(no botnets, no constant hopping in when hashrate is low). i have to create a valid TOS for this. do you think it worths a try?
i didn't dig into other reward systems currently used, but since they are all based on PPS, so i can't really play this casino without being afraid of going low, is that correct? so i thought maybe i'll set up a proportional pool and keep an eye on it while i can so that it will be fair for both miners and myself.
you should dig, as not all payout systems are based on PPS
look into pplns - has pretty much the same risk to operator as proportional and is a fair payout system, I prefer DGM but the maths confuses miners sometimes.
My opinion is proportional is not worth the try, before moving away from prop my team (and quite a few other pools) tried to work out how to make proportional "fair", doing some research you will find the same, slush implemented a system that is better than prop, but still hoppable.
good luck with it
oh and prepare to be on call 24/7/365 and deal with all sorts of issues - real or imagined,
running a pool is not "set and forget" if you want to do it properly
