1  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: April 18, 2019, 01:23:26 AM
I flashed my S9j with Braiins OS a couple months back. Without any problems, except my 60 year old A$$ forgot
to "refresh" the silly browser after flashing... Boy was I ready to lambast somebody until some memory retention reflex
clicked that refresh button and all was well.
Took Phillip Ma's suggestion and under-clocked it to 500mhz, 8.1v - 8.3v - 8.2v.
(thanks Phillip, everything was so much easier in the S3 days, eh?)
Run's pretty smooth, but I wish it was a tad more consistent. However,
I'm quite tickled having the ability to manipulate the miner to make it
"house broken" and have it blow on my feet in the cold basement ;-)

For the curious: I am too old and lazy to put it in a box... Tried that "Cooler" thingy ... cut holes in a $40 cooler, threw it away.
Found 2 shrouds 4", 2 noise reducing 4' x 4" hoses, a foot stool and my winter wardrobe.
Voila, 56db and that mostly stems from the PSU hanging outside the pile ...
Carry on and thank you Braiins OS TEAM!!!!

@gemstone thank you very much for the fans.

We agreed I would receive the fans, and there are 18 in the box.

I have various uses for these fans as time goes by.

If you find the perfect fan in your searches please drop me a PM.

Thanks Again Smiley

Delighted they mad it ... so did the coin on my end... thanks a bunch for taking these off my hands.... ;-)

Or, do people just randomly go around suggesting scam when they have no idea wtf they are talking about?

This exactly. This forum has a lot of people that do that.

Really wish I would have gotten this deal.  Tongue

Search ebay, you will find the recycler that has a few 100's more....

Amended:
Quackers, did some reading ... AFTER posting questions
but still some input would be nice.

What is the CFM capacity of the stock fans?
found this one, I think... 238.09
but then it further states 27.6W Power consumption, 4300 RPM, and 60 DB-A
(my S4 at stock is running at 3600 RPM and the rear howlers are 74 DB-A so my Android tells me)
I don't want to imagine 4300 ... there has to be some relief, no?

Any recommendations of replacement fans?

Considering Delta 1212SHE-F00 ... guess only as possible front replacement... (know this one, works on S5 very nice, 51 DB-A)

Read through Digi-key catalog for Delta Fans... This seems to come closest to the stock one...
Delta Electronics AFB1212GHE-CF00 (scary 5200 rpm), but wait, there is more ;-)
this one at 1ST PC CORP. Delta QFR1212GHE-PWM (6000 rpm, 210 CFM and wait for it ... 64 DB-A at a 'cough' 39 bucks).

Does anybody know any of these fans? PWM working of the QFR?
(AFB 4 pin Molex power and RPM sensor TAC output through its 3 Pin) I need to modify something here? (I really suck at modding)

thank you

I received a Delta AFB1212SHE today and put it straight to my noisiest S5...
stock fan replacement only - no push/pull

It does need a minor modification but otherwise works rather well.
2 ridges on the connector need to be trimmed down and it will fit straight to the pins.

At this time the S5 runs a bit warmer by about 4 degrees C at 3260 rpm, but with roughly 20db less noise.

I'll proceed to replace all S5's with these fans...

Anybody know if the S4 fans are the same as the S5's?
(of course needing an extender for the rear ones in the S4)
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: March 03, 2015, 02:32:12 AM

with only a single Delta AFB1212SHE Replacement Fan.

Strato

Could you please specify which one exactly?

Delta AFB1212SHE-F00
or
Delta AFB1212SHE-CF00

there is a bit of a difference, ~40cfm and ~400rpm

I went with the F-00 (because I was unaware of the other) and it seems to be quite alright.

We also run our own Proxy Servers; so these units work great. Literally I go weeks without really doing anything to them... except seeing the BTC add up in our wallets.

Strato

I would really like to catch up on this... I've done running blades on proxy, but never could figure out how to get the other miner hardware to get with it.

Could you show and tell a bit more?

Received a 1212SHE today and must say that these are great... miffed at myself for not ordering enough for all S5's, but will outfit all of them with this fan.
For anybody else following the thread here: The connector has 2 ridges that prevent the connector to slip on the pins. I took a nail clipper and trimmed the 2 ridges down, with the result that it fit right away just fine and it works great. Dropped the most 'whiny' machine by ~20db.

Does anybody know if the S4 fans are the same as S5?

I also decided to slightly deviate from Stratobiz's strategy and test to 'hang' the S5's instead of zip-tie to the metal rack. I have some miners sitting on Metro Racks and the vibrations sometimes resonate the metal. Found a good length of 12 gauge insulated copper wire and it should suspend a miner securely.

I don't have the luxury of a 'facility', so I might not overclock right away and decide later if it is feasible with noise/heat in my basement.
I also don't have the PSU capabilities yet. Those 1300 watters are pricey... I was actually looking into getting Rosewills Lightning 1300's as they seem to have
8 PCI-e connectors, which would allow me to run 2xS5's at least at default settings.

Thoughts of course welcome ;-)

Will update on receipt.

Thanks!

Shipped and it would be greatly appreciated to acknowledge the receipt of box.

If you just want them at max speed, feed one ground and 12V until it starts.  These fans are probably PWM fans that use the 4th wire for RPM control.

Start it does, for about 180 degrees, then it stops and quivers in place. Way too much trouble for me to mess with it and 50 years ago poking that match into that 220V socket 'cured' me of feeding any wire into any opening ....

Willing to ship to Canada as well?

I am willing to ship to Canada, just not for free of course...
I can weigh it and mess around with different shipping options to see which would be the most economical.
Let me know.

Just a spot of info...
I received the box of Delta's 1212HHE and they are of no use.
These are Apple Case fans and come with 4 pin connector (and ALL black wires), but the S5 will not drive it.
I possibly could figure out how to make them go at a fixed speed, but at 55 I'm too old to fiddle around with things I don't WANT to understand.
I tried to liberate that 'pig' in the wall 50 years ago with a 'match', holding the match head between my fingers, just to be 'lucky' and hit that
HOT wire on the first try, finding myself 4m away upside down the opposite wall with the the burning match between my fingers.
(the ass whopping from dad 'cured' me indefinably from 'messing' with wires and electricity to this day)
I admire people that whip out these fancy measuring devices and know how to splice wires etc to make something go.

I am going to shop for something that works out of the box ... (not having Navi in the name though)

Let me know if you come across some viable solution to this noise pollution besides building a new shack in the back yard and run wire to it.

Just to help-want my noctua and scythe fans? i sold my s5 without them, so i have them lying around now (two noctua and two Scythe's).
Noctua 3000 for push+Scythe for pull work at setting 350 producing 1150GH with much less noise (as long as ambient is below 30C). I have hashing records.

Hi Biodom,
what you're asking for them? Shipping in the US?
I am near Kansas City, zip code 66062.
Paypal would be my preference to pay for them and it would give you the verified shipping address ... don't think this needs to be escrow'd

Ordered a Delta AFB1212SHE-PWM yesterday which is supposed to be sufficient with only one fan, but I have 2 other S5's that could use a fix.

13  Economy / Computer hardware / SOLD!! Delta 1212HHE Fan's 4 pin Box of 18 - used on: February 27, 2015, 10:10:20 PM
Grey in color and coming out of Mac's, 4pin connector all black wires.
Can't use as I thought I could.
Not electrically inclined to figure out to make them go.

Would like to sell all at once and with Paypal verified address for shipping.
Shipping from Kansas City, would like to get $40.00 for all and at that price will ship free....

Otherwise make offer ...

Hmmmm, I thought you have to be crazy to mine Grin

I tried to liberate that 'pig' in the wall 50 years ago with a 'match', holding the match head between my fingers.

Liberate a pig in the wall???

Grew up in Germany and if you look at the wall outlet it 'resembles' the nose of a pig, sort of...

Now I am in the US and the sockets only have slits not round, dark, mysterious little holes.

I can assure you though, that 220V has more umpf than 110V Grin

I did that 220V experiment at least twice ... second time I saw openings in my table lamp next to the bed and decided to 'poke'
in one with a screwdriver that came with my steam engine....

Me and electricity is like water to an oil fire Cheesy

My PCI cables almost, sometimes feel a hint warm.  Yeah, a good sign.

Just by turning mine vertical, dropped a few degrees.  Thank you Strato!

Did you arrange like Strato with box fan underneath or just turned them upright with enough air to breathe?

18  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: February 27, 2015, 06:05:29 AM
I think that it is enough for one S5 without OC... It depends how hot are those pcie cables that are connected to miner...

Discolored one connector on the miner to a lovely 'caramel' ... (the S3 I took off the Thermaltake today after not being able to touch for more than 3 seconds)
This one didn't have any crumbling wires or PCIe's (yet)

Got this one licked and am going to stay with Corsair/EVGA/Rosewill's ... NOW the infernal howling of these fans needs to stop ;-)
19  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: February 27, 2015, 06:00:33 AM
Woah gemstone, pretty lucky man, while not being so at the same time.  Shocked

I consider myself VERY lucky!
I still got a house and none of the miners seems to have suffered or got damaged.... ;-)
20  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: February 27, 2015, 05:54:16 AM
In case Strato is reading this....

you are mentioning in your write up that you are using a single Delta AFB1212SHE-PWM for cooling.

Is this a plug and go solution? Any modifications needed, wire cutting, extra fan controller or any other fancy foot/handiwork?

Would this be a viable second choice?

SILVERSTONE FHP-141 140mm (120mm mounting holes) Case Fan
500~2000rpm 42.8~171 CFM

Thank you for your guide!
