1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Way too long time between shares?? XMR STAK on: January 28, 2018, 03:18:50 PM
So I'm using xmr stak to mine dinastycoin. I can't quite get a stable hashrate though, even though I am outputting 1.6kh/s stable according to the xmr-stak. Sometimes I get 2.5kh/s and sometimes it goes as low as 100 h/s and it can stayu like that for more than 10 minutes.. The time between each share acceptted by the pool is just too long imo. Sometimes i can wait 10+ minutes between a share, and let's say we find a 2 blocks in a short amount of time, I will only get paid for one of them cuz the second one has no accepted shares... How do I fix this? It's really bad. Let's say I get lucky, I get 2-3 shares really fast at a decent difficulty, the miner just rises the difficulty up to the skies and I won't find a share for a very long time.. And then it gradually lowers the difficulty every 2-3 minutes or so, until I find another share.

Any suggestions?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Really annoying problem... Trying to set up my rig on: January 26, 2018, 11:17:41 PM
Hello,
So I'm having a really weird issue whereas I can't get my computer to turn on when riser is connected. All I hear is a click and the PSU cuts the power. I ran two seperate 6 to 8 pins PCI-e cables from PSU, one powering the riser and the other powering the GPU. On the PSU I connected the cables onto 2 random available 6 pin slots, and the riser only used 6 pin so I didnt connect two of them (you can take seperate 2 pins), while the GPU is using all 8 pins. I have tried multiple different risers, cables and changed out that little board that goes into the mobo. I have 2x 1070's and I am trying to power a rx 570 on the riser on top of that. I tried unplugging those two gtx 1070's and using their power supply cables for the riser and the rx 570, and suddenly it works. I have no idea if it is the cables or what the hell the problem is, and it is driving me insane. I used all night trying to figure this out but I am no closer... If the cables are the fault why would they not work? Normal type 3, 6 to 8 pin...

Here you can see how it looks. Appreciate the feedback!

A lot of different opinions here I see, I enjoy reading them! As I stated in the post I already got my hands on 9 gpu's, so I'm gonna start with that and not buy anymore until things settles. I got the gpu's at a fairly low price so hopefully I'm breaking even in 3-4 months. There are indeed a lot of things that could make the profits decrease drastically, so it is as some of you say pretty much the same as playing lottery. I have a feeling the next generation amd/nvidia is gonna be a HUGE factor on profitability and I might just sell out before that and put my profits into buying those new cards instead. It's gonna be interesting and I can't wait to see how things turn out! Appreciate the feedback Cheesy
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Bad time to get into GPU mining - yes or no? Share your thoughts! on: January 25, 2018, 09:12:27 AM
Hey,
So I've just bought 6x rx 570's and 3x 1070's, which I'm planning to run with a 1200W server psu and b250 mining expert mobo. I am currently waiting for my b250 which arrives in stock 1st of february. Here comes the big question though: Is this really a good time to get into mining? With the rapidly increasing difficulty and asic mining taking over some coins, will this be the end of GPU mining you think? I am just hoping to make ROI, but just since I placed the buy order on the parts till today the profits on very many coins that I was planning to mine has gone down 3x.. How do you see GPU mining in a year or so? Now the new nvidia 2x series are coming too so that should also be taken into consideration.
Let's see your opinions!
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining with with CM storm trooper case? on: December 28, 2017, 11:02:55 AM
SO I'm about to make a small mining rig with 4-6 gpu's. I have an old CM storm trooper case lying unused in the basement and figured, why not take it to use if it's suitable. The case itself is pretty big, so if I put a motherboard with 6+ pci slots inside, it should be all good? I don't know maybe I can modify the case fans to get better airflow at the cards, I haven't looked at that yet, but it is in an open enviroment afterall so they shouldn't run too hot imo. Only thing that might become an issue it that I'm probably gonna need 2 750w psu's, and it's hard to fit both into the case.
Thanks for inputs!

My asus rog strix 1070 is running close to 40mh/s at lyra's. Pretty good performance if you ask me

So how are the gains when mining ethereum with this miner using nvidia's gtx 1070 rog strix card? Will I be better off just mining ZEC/verge or should I give this a go.

Buy verge for 60% , 20% btc 20% gamble daily trade for fun... when verge reaches 1$ you will be a happy man.. or invest all in verge but u know u gonna have to wait some time for verge to hit dat 1$ mark  Cool
https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/7ltnff/verge_is_teaching_us_all_something/ really think xvg is gonna hit it?

RX 580 I like more but I don't recommend you to buy these GPU second hand. You don't know how they worked in the mining business. They can be overheated. They certainly require replacement of thermal paste. On this equipment there is no guarantee. The payback period of these GPU 7-10 months. It seems to me that you can not pay back. It is better to buy a new one.

Saphire  have better fan than MSI. and agree with you about buying new one (due to Mod bios...) except if 2nd hand are still under guarantee.
Just found 1 2nd hand Saphir RX 570 for less than 150 euro with 1.5 year guarantee.

The RX series are really hard to find on the secondary market in my country, there are only people trying to sell it for stupid amounts of money because they know it is a very cabable card for mining, therefore they think people will pay more for it.. I'm not sure wether I should mine eth or zec/verge yet, it all depends on what cards I can get cheaper I suppose. There's a 3 year guarantee on all cards, and I will be making sure I have a few years left off the warranty so I can atleast pay the cost of them before they take the night.

I will be getting the receipt for the cards I buy, and here in Norway there is a reclamation rule that basically gives you the right to return the product in cases of failure within 5 years of purchase, so I think it's all good. So you think its gonna take me that long to pay these cards back? I am mining with NiceHash approx $4/day at equihash/lyra. With 6 cards I should be making atleast $20 a day, and I'm taking into consideration that these coins will very likely increase in value over time, so it's not gonna take that long as far as I can tell. $600/month - 20kwh/day which is about $60/month. 3 months I should've made my money back considering I get the 1070's at around $300-350 each, and this is even if the coins that I mine don't rise in value. Or is there something I'm forgetting here? :p
These numbers seems to be fluctiating quite a bit Shocked Now suddenly I'm gaining $8/day

You have to think differently.

Some cards are good for one or two algorithm some for others.
RX 580 are good for Ethash + Cryptonight (ETH,Monero,ETN...)

It will really depend on what you want to mine.

You can check https://whattomine.com/ to have an overview of different card.

And think about Hash/PWR because electricity have an important cost on mining.

I have one RIG of 6 RX 580 Nitro + 8G

On cryptonight: ETN I have Hash > 5000H/s for PWR < 800W
On Ethash: ETH Hash > 180 mh/s for PWR < 1000W

So ~200W and 200W in one year cost money.
True. If my powertarget is set to 120% does that mean it will be using 150W*1.20? (180w)
I'll be mining on equahash and maybe some verge, so 1070's should be good? Cheesy

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Building a rig - 6x RX580 or 6x used NVIDIA 1070's on: December 25, 2017, 01:57:43 PM
These numbers don't seem too bad for one 1070 in my opinion.
Can someone explain to me how nicehash works? I know it swaps between what is most profitable for you at the time being, so does this mean I will be mining all sorts of coins? And if so, I still get paid in btc??
Lyra is vertcoin, equihash is zcash right? Once I get my rig setup I'll probably use something else than nicehash, but nicehash actually seems to be giving me good speeds in my opinion.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Building a rig - 6x RX580 or 6x used NVIDIA 1070's on: December 25, 2017, 12:31:49 PM
So I'm thinkin about builing a rig, whereas my budget lies around $3-4k tops. The thing is, RX580 is about $300 in the cheapest store right now, while the gtx 1070 sits at $550. This is new condition however. On the secondary market there is very rarely any rx 580's for sale, but if I'm gonna buy this one I'm just gonna buy a bunch of new ones for $300/each. I can get a 1070 for $350 in new condition, but that is only one. The rest I'm probably gonna have buy for retail price, or maybe get lucky and find some used ones for around $300-350. This might take a lot of time though, so might not be worth the effort unless the 1070 is remarkably better in performance, which to my understanding, they aren't. Performance depends on the coins you want to mine obviously. I'm gonna be mining ethereum or/and zcash. I have one 770 lying around, and I'm already running sli 1070 in my computer, so I'm thinking about just putting that 770 back in my computer and use the two I have in my computer currently and put them in my rig, but we'll see.
Was considering for a long to buy a few antminers, but now with the recent price bump it's not going to happen. Also quite risky to have all your equipment invested into the few coins that is based on the Sha-256 algo, incase btc goes sideways.
I'm getting about 40MH/s on the Lyra2REv2 algo, isn't that pretty good? People seem to be averaging around 31-32 with the 1070, so maybe it depends on the model? Smiley
Any thoughts?
