1  Economy / Service Discussion / BTC-E International Wire Question on: November 12, 2013, 07:46:13 PM
Hi

I had a question regarding BTC-E withdrawal process.

Am I  reading it correctly in their FAQ section that they require a minimum fee of 150 dollars for an outgoing wire transfer?

If this is true then it is an enormous amount for an outgoing wire.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you.

OK, have him send me (signed) the email address I should use for the account. He can then use the forgotten password feature.

Theymos, I believe you own this website.

As new users, do we have to worry about account security? Why are individual accounts being hacked?

What purpose would it serve to hack user accounts of an online forum?

Thank you.

- Safvan Malik

The forum database wasn't compromised. There was a site he owned and that database got compromised, his password probably got compromised too, maybe from the database, a virus, etc. But none of it was due to a security leak in the forums.

Right. Thank you.

Regardless of how it plays out, it is good to know that the main stream commerce system is pouring in real money to build brand names around the concept of Bitcoin.

The admins have activity supported selling of accounts.  They claim it is alright because it happens anyway and that is their way of warning people that it happens.  You can warn people that it happens without encouraging it.  You don't see this on other web sites because those sites are run by adults who take responsibility for their actions.

The Libertarian party in my State runs an open government project and I interact with them all the time.  I have also been to talks at the CATO institute several times.  Those Libertarians fighting for reduced government have nothing to do with criminals who use Libertarianism as an excuse to engage in criminal conduct and then claim no responsibility.

I bought BitcoinTalk.com awhile back.  If I followed the leads of the admins on this site I would have set up a phishing site and sell the accounts, get free XRP's, etc. but I would rather run a legitimate business.

I have tried to help the site admins but I have realized over time that they are unwell to change and grow up with Bitcoin.  Bitcoin cannot depend on this site and the cast of characters who run it.  These people will eventually be pushed out anyway so the sooner the better.

Sorry for being naive at this one but exactly how is selling email accounts of users going to possibly benefit the owners of this website? other then the usual database sell rates.

If anything there would be more spam but then this is not something avid users of the internet are immune to.

Please enlighten me and others reading this thread, if I am missing the piece of the puzzle.

- Safvan

Pointing out the fact that they promote the sale of accounts is to warn new users and to show how poorly the forum is administered.  It can be more than spam if a users tries to pull a scam based on the forum reputation.  That is stupid but that is not the main issue.  The main issue is how they run scam ads that are designed to defraud new users and allow scams to continue.  The admins can't just yell "Libertarianism" and then take no responsibility while grabbing the cash.

Well I cannot comment on the specifics of the accusations nor I am their lawyer but one thing is for sure, they do not mind forum users bashing their integrity online on their own property.

It is like your neighbor entering your house and breaking things around, calling you names and then feeling better about himself and you are alright with it.

If this is not libertarianism, then what is?

Any ways I am in no legal position to make a judgement and will choose to stand at the end of the line.

I do believe a fine cross of liberal conservatism is needed. A good mix of left and right wing approach is what the United States needs.

Food Stamp Riots in the United States. This is new for me as a person who does not live in the US.

What is all the wealth for then if not for the benefit of the common man?

One cannot be the most powerful nation in the world with thousands of people on food stamps, can one be?

Certain parts of religion such as xmas, diwali, eid etc are good and are enjoyed by millions.

Even atheists enjoy xmas with friends and family because it is something that people tend to celebrate regardless of whether they are devout church goers.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Only way bitcoin will collapse is if they become illegal. what are the chances? on: October 29, 2013, 08:56:01 PM
Hello,
I have though of the main possibility of bitcoin collapsing and the only way i saw it happening is if people stop using it as exchange (never gonna happen)
or if all the goverments will start making bitcoin illegal.
what are the chances for that to happen  Huh
from the articles i'v read for now only Thailand made it illegal.

or anyone got other ideas how it can collapse. (the 51% attack is temporary and specific attack so.. dont think it can do much)

The biggest threat to bitcoin in my opinion is a rival crypto currency with a big enough userbase to become the de facto standard crypto currency, with bitcoin lagging behind as a tiny geek crypto currency.

E.g. a crypto currency developed by Visa, Mastercard or Facebook.
Companies with either a huge existing userbase or an existing payment infrastructure, preferably both.

This is an excellent observation.  Smiley

I am loving the vast and quick adoption of Bitcoin. It seems there is a concentrated effort to make this currency as main stream as possible.

Great.

Asian regions as a whole can really add in tons of liquidity into this currency. Something it needs badly for that price stability.

You do understand that virtual usernames mean nothing. They can be created again and again.

I am very sorry for your loss and wish you the best of luck in recovering your amount.

Thank you.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I invest $70,000 in Bitcoin? How should I do it? on: October 29, 2013, 04:18:26 PM
Go for the 20% rule.

Invest 20% each in Bitcoin, Gov/Corporate Bonds, Gold, Silver and Platinum.

20% rule is good but too much on commodity. I would suggest only 20% on Gold, Silver and Platinum....

Value acquisition is the name of the game. The precious metals market has been the target of panic selling in 2013, which makes it ripe for buying.

Physical bullion will never let anyone down over the long run.

The US could hurt this currency bad because of its law makers continuously attacking it.

Otherwise outside the US, the currency is slowly becoming the choice for the young and hip in Europe and Asia.

Bitcoin needs to remove the cover of anonymity from its face at least partially for it to be accepted by the US government. As long as the US government has access to the basic information about the people using Bitcoin, it would not ban it.

19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open letter to Russell Brand, asking him to join the bitcoin revolution on: October 29, 2013, 01:34:34 PM
His best investment would be to endorse this currency in the main stream media. This would be more than enough for now.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the Creator of Bitcoin come forward? on: October 29, 2013, 12:14:38 AM
I was thinking the other day how different Bitcoin would be today if Satoshi or whoever created Bitcoin came forward and took credit. If there were one person to answer questions and explain the benefits of using Bitcoin it might've caught on quicker.

On the other hand, I was also thinking about the possibility that the true creator of Bitcoin is dead or murdered. If Satoshi actually chose to remain anonymous then it would make it that much easier for him to be killed without anyone knowing. If he were famous then his every move would be watched.

Or what if it was not a single person that started Bitcoin, but a group of individuals with their own secret motives. Why would they chose to remain anonymous and for what purpose?

Regardless, it is strange that the public does not know who is behind the fastest growing digital currency in the world. What do you think?

To answer your question. I voted YES, he should come forward and take the compliments.

As for your entire post, the word "kill" and "murder" holds special prominence. Why is murdering of a tech god necessary to pass on a point?
