It's probably a good idea to send a link of this thread to The Pineapple Fund ( https://pineapplefund.org/), since they're constantly in search of charitable organizations to donate to they might be interested. The page from the link you gave provides no way that I can see for contacting the Pineapple Fund. Maybe you know another way and can take care of that for us? Thanks so much.

Sorry, SeedMadagascar. Your charity does not meet the first criterion for listing here. (See first post of this topic thread.)

I'm surprised that American Red Cross isn't the list. However, i don't found any statement from their website even though many news media have shared about it long time ago. Forgive me if i gave wrong information. Yes, when I first set up this resource, BitPay was signing up a lot of charities - large and small - and the larger ones got a lot of press fanfare. But several of those charities never really embraced bitcoin enough to facilitate donations through their web sites, and hence don't meet the criteria for the listing here. The American Red Cross was one such charity.

Our semi-annual review discovered the following charities no longer qualify for inclusion on this list – all, because they no longer have a bitcoin donation option on their web sites... I've added another 520 GB to my array. We'll see how much I get this month.

I just received my first payout! 8.26745701 SJCX 2016-01-11 23:59:19
I began depositing SJCX to my Counterparty wallet on 15/11/29 - when I first deployed DriveShare on three computers plus one external hard drive. All extra space on equipment I use already.
During December, I made some changes in my deployed disk space and shut down my computers for one week over the holidays. And, it wasn't till 15/12/29 that I got my SJCX balance to 10,100. So I really wasn't expecting to get paid at all for December.
I'm really happy to see things going so well with the project.
Here's my present configuration: Desktop - Linux Mint 17 - 20 GB Desktop - Windows 7 - 295 GB External HD - 315 GB Laptop - Windows 7 - 110 GB Total: 740 GB

Looks to me like the SJCX/BTC exchange rate is bouncing around now, trying to find a bottom. https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_sjcx I think I'll roll the dice with buying the 10k Storj coins I need to start getting in on some payouts. At worst, I blow $140; at best, I make a million!

Per the chat board last night...
Thanks so much for all you've contributed to this discussion! I appreciate your being in contact with the project -- much more that I am, really. The online documentation for the project has come along nicely, but of course it still doesn't address a lot of questions. One I'd really like to know about for sure.. is whether at this stage of development, one has to deposit the 10k of SJCX to get any payouts for running DriveShare. I rather understood that the 10k deposit requirement was for doing earlier beta testing, but that it's not the case now for those that might download and start running the new GUI I referenced at the outset. I did put a few coins in my SJCX wallet on Counterparty, and my GUI on both platforms does reference and show my balance in the wallet. But I have nowhere near 10k coins there, and am a bit reluctant to load up that wallet now, if I don't have to. But I would like to get paid -- whatever the small payout might be, and however infrequently payouts are made -- so I would probably go ahead now and deposit the 10K, if that's still required. Maybe you can make inquiry about this for me and others that are interested? Thanks, again.

Finally! - It Works! Storj finally has an easy on-ramp to start renting out your extra drive space – and be paid for it! I set up version 0.4.1 of DriveShare a couple of days ago on my Windows 7 computer; and, by every metric I know to test for, it's working splendidly. I have it set up to use the available space I have on my native C: drive, as well as my external F: drive. Here's the announcement for the new GUI: http://us8.campaign-archive1.com/?u=edba9fc4ce8b9095a31859cba&id=a2ba97e856Downloads are available on GibHub: https://github.com/Storj/driveshare-gui/releases Be sure to get the latest version for your machine. And here's the Storj web site: http://storj.io/Storj is using their colored coin SJCX for rent earnings and payouts. You can exchange those for bitcoin at ShapeShift: https://shapeshift.io/If you don't have a Counterparty wallet and don't want to mess with getting an SJCX address just to test the software, you're welcome to use mine to get you going. 12BoxGmEKUkLhHtc9qkxj2QC2MhZcff61A As soon as you're ready, you can get your own address and start collecting some coin in your own account. EDIT: I just installed version 0.4.2 on my Linux Mint 17 computer; and it, too, seems to be running well.

One never knows for sure. We all gave a wary eye at the beginning to likes of Gyft, eGifter, Purse, and others.
But CardCash has risen to be the world's largest gift card exchange, they have a generous 45-day card guarantee, and no one on the bitcoin fora has had anything but the best to say about their service. I have placed about ten orders with them, with only one favorably-resolved problem near the beginning.

https://www.cardcash.com/They just started accepting bitcoin payments several weeks ago. Now they're giving an extra discount! for paying in bitcoin – that is, above their already great discounts on many gift cards! Let's say “Thanks” by giving them some business.

Many of the charities in the list are small local charities, supported by only one or a few bitcoin donors. Why don't you get your preferred local charities to take bitcoin? Then we can put them on the list where others can see and donate to them, too.

There certainly are a lot of foreign (non-U.S.) charities accepting bitcoin. But finding any generally acceptable third-party vetting criteria [like the IRS registration is in the U.S.] is a serious problem. The 501(c)(3) mechanism in the U.S. makes this listing task at least possible - albeit, still a great deal of work. How to make a similar list of foreign charities seems impossible at the moment.

Can you give us a short explanation on how the vetting is done and verified?
There has been no vetting of the charities on this list, except for that which the IRS does to give and renew their 501(c)(3) status. This is simply a listing of all the organizations that meet the two criteria mentioned above. Some of the organizations do refer to their standing with respected third-party reviewing groups; but every donor must do his/her own due diligence in selecting where to donate.

Why not switch to HD?
The "Why" part of the question still wins the battle for me: 'Why switch to HD?' The added features there are not important enough to me. As long as Classic works well and is safe, why change? If is ain't broke, don't fix it.
