1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Another "Forgot about my bitcoin investment" story on reddit on: November 18, 2013, 06:05:29 AM

This guy has over BTC104. The thread on reddit can be found here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1qvdqm/i_bought_bitcoin_in_2010_and_forgot_about_it/
2  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Things I should know about localbitcoins? on: November 18, 2013, 12:02:36 AM
Yeah local bitcoins has worked so far for me, just make sure to conduct any face to face deals in public so you don't get mugged.

I done the deal, all went fine. Kinda hard to count £1000 in a very public place, was more worried someone else was going to mug me, not to mention it looked like a drug deal.

You can get around that by just announcing at the top of your lungs "THIS IS NOT A DRUG DEAL". That should keep your £1000 safe
3  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitcoinity.org seems to be down on: November 17, 2013, 02:26:42 PM
It appears that the Bitcoin charting site "Bitcoinity" is down. I suspect the all-time high of $500/BTC1 could be the cause.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is bitcoin without privacy on: November 17, 2013, 10:47:50 AM
Putting privacy to one side, the reason why bitcoin is useful is because it's so damned convenient. No longer do we need to pay outrageous international transfer fees to wire money between two people, no longer does it take days to send money to people, no longer do we need to worry about frozen accounts like we do with Bitcoins.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "John Dillon" We can leak things too you trolling piece of shit on: November 17, 2013, 04:43:35 AM
Would probably help if you/someone quoted the relevant parts.

Or maybe I'm the only lazy one here. Smiley
No you're not, this is impossible to read and comprehend in its current state...

That's a releif, I thought I was lazy/incompetent
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the Bitcoin Foundation be moved to a Neutral Country... on: November 16, 2013, 02:40:20 PM
I think what is needed at this point is an official Anti-Bitcoin Foundation.

Just a simple website that states the position of bitcoin users who do not agree that the Bitcoin Foundation represents them, and explicitly refuses to be bound by any agreements made by the Bitcoin Foundation, and makes it clear that we refuse to comply with the regulations of any state, whether it be Thailand or the USA.

Why?  Because we want Freedom, we are tired of Slavery, and we will NOT comply any longer.

Let's do it then. Let's write up a constitution and create a website
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Things I should know about localbitcoins? on: November 16, 2013, 02:29:32 PM
That's pretty shitty. Glad you got the coins in the end. I had to close my Mt Gox account because they don't let people under 18 get an account, and I couldn't be bothered whipping out Adobe Photoshop to edit my Driver's License
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vote No for Coin Validation! on: November 16, 2013, 02:23:02 PM
If we have coin validation, wouldn't that make cash more anonymous? Freaking cash!?
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vote for the removal of Mike Hearn as Chair of the Bitcoin Foundations Law & Pol on: November 16, 2013, 02:06:21 PM
he is representing the interest of US gov , not bitcoin community , expel him.if they dont , we should think about to find a replacement of btc foundation

Or we could just make our own foundation. Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's second Bitcoin foundation. We will be that foundation. Better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster.

In hindsight that quote didn't work as well as I hoped
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia's yearly donation campaign; Time to accept Bitcoins? on: November 16, 2013, 01:56:37 PM
If Wikipedia had a facility to donate with Bitcoins, I'd definitely donate. I use Wikipedia for school research way more than I should
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the Bitcoin Foundation be moved to a Neutral Country... on: November 16, 2013, 01:21:20 PM
and draw up a constitution, outlining the core values of the community

How does a "foundation" like the "Bitcoin Foundation" not already have a constitution?

I'd take a look at http://bitcoin-otc.com/
13  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Things I should know about localbitcoins? on: November 16, 2013, 12:17:25 PM
I did a transfer on Local Bitcoins a couple of days ago and it worked fine. I suggest that you require that traders submit a picture of government-issued ID when they purchase for the first time (or if they have a low number of trades). That way, if the funds get frozen by your bank you'll have some evidence of the fraud.

Buying the coins with cash should be safe but I suggest you follow the guide https://localbitcoins.com/guides/cash-exchange-howto on their website on how to conduct the trades safely.

Also, just because I'm curious, what happened on Mt Gox?
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whats the cheapest bitcoin you got? on: November 16, 2013, 11:34:06 AM
Bought 10BTC for $9.70 back when you use paypal on mygox. Donated to faucets bought a nerdbadge.

Found an old wallet the 2BTC a couple of months ago and got into mining.

That's pretty bloody good! Do you still have those bitcoins?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Think Litecoin will see the same growth as Bitcoin? on: November 16, 2013, 07:21:49 AM
I don't personally believe that Litecoin will grow to as big as Bitcoin, but it's way too early to speculate on this in my opinion. Bitcoin was first introduced in 2009, that's 4 years ago. Litecoin came out in 2011, two years later.
