icopress I want to make public suggestion for next year Pizza event, and other members can comment if this is a good idea or not.
I think it would be a good idea to have small consolation prizes for best pizzas made by each local board, but only in case if they didn't receive any reward in main competition.
For example, we had several members in Croatian board, consolation prize would go to the local member with most votes.
It should be the same for other local boards but members need to be active there to qualify for consolation prize.
This could motivate local members to create better pizzas and it could also increase local activity in forum.
Based on the success of this year's event, I guess it would be too much to ask from the organizers to handle everything. It's quite a job to organize and compile results; it's not a one-person job as we saw. So I think it's the local board's responsibility to conduct internal competitions if they want. For example, we are already organizing a small reward of $50 for our participants to choose the Best Pakistani Pizza Participant - Appreciation Award |

Hey, everybody!  So, I assisted GB during the vote-counting phase this year, and because I (like most programmers) have way more energy for coding than I do for manual labor, I decided to try and automate it, and I figured that some of you might find the approach I settled on to be interesting.  I knew going in that people weren't going to (reliably) follow the format that icopress asked for, so trying to completely automate it was never going to work. Also, especially with a matter as sacred as pizza, I wanted to steer well clear of automation-related counting mistakes. So, in the end, the design I arrived at left some room for that all-important human touch. Basically, I realized that although there was a lot of (structural) variation in the votes (some people used [code] tags, some people used [quote] tags, some people just wrote out their choices normally, etc.), it was always possible to select the single piece of their post's text that corresponded to their choices... So, what I did was write a little browser extension (starting from this) that added a new "Process Vote" button next to each post in that topic: "Process Vote" button for every post? Wow, having to click 100+ times is amazing... If you did this, hats off to you! I'm sure counting votes was easy once you got the data, but I'm curious why you didn't use AI. I remember during voting on June 9, 2024, I ran our vote data through ChatGPT 4.0 (see the first two prompts), and it provided almost accurate results in just two steps. https://chatgpt.com/share/0b976521-620f-4226-98f0-2775164a59f5As of June 9, 2024, I got the following results from AI: The top 5 pizzas based on the points are:

Ok Question: What do you do in your free time? PowerGlove: I write patches for bitcointalk. Previously, if you didn't check the "Show others your online status" option, it would still be pretty obvious when you were online because your "Last Active" time would still constantly update to be ~now. This has now been changed so that if you were last active within the last 72 hours and you have the show-online option disabled, then the exact time will not be displayed, and it will instead just say "(Recently)".

However, this makes me think if I have disabled the "Show others your online status?" option, why does it still display the exact date and time of my last activity after 72 hours? If for periods <72 hours, it's showing Recently. Then periods >72 hours, it should display something like Long time ago, and perhaps Long long time ago for periods exceeding certain time like a year or more.
So if I monitor a profile that was last active more than 3 days ago, and it's status switches to "(Recently)", I know it's became active right at that moment.
That's a great idea for the BPIP parser. If it can keep track of user activity somehow, we might find ourselves visiting BPIP more often! |

Nice! It's a pretty self-contained patch, so I was able to add it fairly easily. I left a warning on the post page, though, since I don't think it was otherwise obvious enough what was going on.
Yet another much-needed patch goes live in no time. Thank you, theymos, and once again, credit goes to PowerGlove, the patch master. Previously, I had to follow four or five steps using this URL ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=quotefast;quote=48896084;sesc=sesionid;xml) and manually add the message ID and session ID, then copy and paste the quote from the XML. However, this process was not possible using mobile phones. But now, it's just one click. Thank you, PowerGlove, once again.  |

I totally missed the point where icopress said the voting system is based on the IRV.
Using this system is totally fine, yet it should be clear to everyone, and based on an “official” statement by contest organiser(s), rather than speculation.
Hover over "voting" and you will see instant-runoff being mentioned. But yeah, maybe it could have been actually mentioned and not kinda hidden as there might be more like you that missed it. For the voting system to work, any nominated pizza must have the support of at least three users. The fun part is that I even quoted the OP looking for this kind of stuff, but I missed that “hidden” code. Yes, I think you are right. This should be amended asap and made clear to everyone. Based on how people are voting and how the pizzas are presented (in sequential order from 1, 2, 3…), someone can easily miss this point. Voting in order matters, and when scrolling from 1 to 112, you will automatically choose 5 pizzas in ascending order. I believe only cooked pizzas should be considered for the final voting. If your “pizza art” ends in disaster after cooking, it doesn’t mean you should get votes on your uncooked pictures. Icopress himself clearly hinted at this point in the competition announcement thread, stating to add your bitcoin art at a later stage of pizza cooking. |
