1  Economy / Speculation / Stable price over the last 6 hours has been great for Bitcoin on: December 12, 2013, 11:28:22 PM
So many people always saying that volatility is bad for Bitcoin. Thought we needed a place to talk about how wonderful the last 6 hours have been.
2  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin on cover of time magazine on: December 11, 2013, 08:52:49 AM
Things will look good for holidays.

I can't find the cover? Do you have an image?
3  Economy / Speculation / Re: when will bitcoin's market cap surpass gold's? on: December 11, 2013, 01:33:48 AM
I would be happy to wager against Gold going to $200.
4  Economy / Speculation / Re: hang on tight! on: December 10, 2013, 11:29:52 PM
HOLY SH$T, bitcoins crashing below $700! With no end in sight.

LOL welcome back to the forum.

Last time I remember you posting the price was at $5 or less. lol

Hello, yeah a few people remember me from those days. I was pretty bearish then huh. Well, at the time it wasn't really a  bad position to take. I would have never dreamed of bitcoin hitting over $1000.

I wanted to buy in big at $1.00, it never went that low. I got pissed and decided to stay away from bitcoin for the last couple of years. I guess that wasn't a smart decision at the time.

I was first watching bitcoin when it was pennies. Didn't have much to invest, and the swings were much to volatile for what little I had. Stupidly, didn't just buy a little and put it aside. Loosely watched for 4 years. Got in small a few months ago. Gotta change your mind as the situation changes.

Satoshi might be the only bitcoin holder who doesn't have some regret about getting in earlier.
5  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is this the End of 3 Digit $ Bitcoins ? on: December 10, 2013, 08:35:58 PM
I think $990 will probably be gone, as a possibility (meaning bitcoin isn't compromised as a network, etc), after ATH hits $2600.

$1000+ as a full floor around 3k ATH.

Although 3 digit bitcoins are a guarantee again at some point in the distant future, right before zero.
6  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcommon - BTC/USD - Technical Analysis. on: December 10, 2013, 01:48:02 AM
Great thread. Thank you!

(As an aside, for any traders in here. Looking at the bitcoinwisdom.com chart, there's a yellow arrow showing the current price, and a moving gray arrow that is vertically in line, but fluctuates to something different, it seems. What does the gray arrow mean? Thanks!)
7  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the hype/awareness stage over? on: December 09, 2013, 07:11:39 PM
Lots of new people have heard of it, but there's a big distance between hearing about it and using it. There's still an incredible way to go on both ends, with businesses transacting (and the infrastructure to do so) and the man-on-the-street being able to use it competently.

If you're in doubt, walk outside and ask the next 10 people you see.

What if you could have an exchange that would trade without bots? A human-only exchange? Is this feasible (2 point authorization on any trade?), or reasonable? Maybe it doesn't make sense, but I was wondering if an exchange with less volume, but more legitimate (per se) trading would foster a healthier market?

I'm still trying to learn how the exchanges work, but this was something I had been considering..
9  Economy / Speculation / Reading charts (bitcoinwisdom.com) on: December 07, 2013, 07:56:16 AM
Hey all,

I've been lurking in the forum for a couple months, even registered a few weeks ago before I discovered I had to check the noob forum before posting. Questions for those of you who understand charts, trends, and fundamentals (I'm a noob, trying to learn; been teaching myself).

First, if there's any resource you would recommend checking to get a better grasp on the basics, I am open.

Second, when looking at the charts on bitcoinwisdom.com, does the number of future orders mean much? On the right, for the bids and asks, it seems to indicate how many potential orders at prices in increments. If asks outnumber bids (or vice versa) what does that mean? More pressure on the side with more orders?

Third, what other things should I look for on the charts, generally? As indications? Trends?

Thanks for any advice or recs. Doing my best to learn.
10  Economy / Speculation / Re: How low will bitcoin be before 2013 ends on: December 07, 2013, 05:45:58 AM

I disagree.

Just because people hear of it, doesn't mean they'll jump right in and buy into it.

I've been telling people about bit coin for the last 9 months - dozens and dozens of people - not a single person bought into it.

I think the majority if people are like this. And will be so for a long time yet.

About half of the people I've had repeated conversations with, and have done some research of their own, have gotten involved. And this is only in the last 3 months.  I'm not suggesting it's mainstream, far from it, but reasonable people will give it a look.

11  Economy / Speculation / Re: Borrowed $1,000,000 (1 million dollars) from my dad to invest in BTC (serious) on: December 06, 2013, 08:45:46 PM
Use the million dollars to hire people to open your own exchange. Seems to be plenty of opportunity to compete. Making .2% per transaction, you'll have a million dollars worth of bitcoins by the end of 2014.

Actually using the money for a bitcoin related start-up seems a better way to score some coin (as well as not piss off your dad), while scaling up and learning along the way, as opposed to trying to time the market real quick.

Looking forward to reading about how this ends on major news outlets.

I'm very close to backing out of this whole thing too (atleast until rapid, user-friendly, trustworthy Bitcoin services come online).

I've been too afraid to buy a single mBTC because of all the stories of hacking and scams I've read on here.

It's just a whole new system of things to understand. You learn one thing, then you learn another, start small, and work your way along. In the beginning, people didn't think anyone would buy anything off of the internet, there was a while where Amazon was in the balance, as a business, and look at it today? Cryptocurrency is just starting. There's no pressure to learn everything this instant. Do what you can, learn as you go, start small and work your way up. You'll be miles ahead of everyone, a couple years down the road.
