is VNC a safe option? so if i installed VNC on the pi then accessed the miners like that? zac

I have got a spare RPi so thats quite a good idea. just plug that into the router and then connect all the miners to that. but... excuse my ignorance but how is that safer please? zac

Hi All,
i have a few of miners at a remote location (Avalon's 741) they use the OpenWrt OS. I have them connected to a 4G router with a sim card in. They work absolutely fine. However what i'd like to do it setup a VPN so i can access each one separately from my laptop wherever i may be.
Ive set the the router up for DuckDNS and from looking at the router control panel it seems quite easy to forward a port to a particular host.
The thing i'm stuck on is how to assign a port number to the miner in the OpenWrt. Can anyone help me with this please?

hi all, I've had an avalon 741 running for a long time now without any problems. I had a few power cuts recently, one after another because the sub station was having issues for my road.
Because of the power cuts this seemed to corrupt the sd card in the controller and i had to buy a new one. I re flashed the OS onto the card just like normal.
But ever since then my asic stops showing up on the pool. when i login to the controller via a browser i can see the OS is still running but its not connected to the pool and obviously its not hashing either. I perform a reboot and it all starts working again straight away.
it does this every couple of days.
any ideas guys? thanks zac

Jesus! can everyone just shut up about this now. The OP asked a question, and it has been answered. The OP did not ask for peoples legal or moral opinions on this subject. There are lots of legitimate reasons why you wouldn't want a console showing on the desktop. So can everyone stop making assumptions and stick to answering questions with based on your technical knowledge and not what the ten commandments say.

Guys, I have the opposite problem, please tell me how to detect a hidden miner. Recently, my work computer has become noticeably slower. It seems to me that our IT specialist decided to earn extra money and did not inform anyone))
Check task manager

im using this solution:
CreateObject("Wscript.Shell").Run "miner.exe",0,True
Save as filename.vbs and drag to startup windows folder
best solution thanks zac

Thx
did you get this working?

ok thanks for that
ok, so another 24hrs has passed and still not showing. i'm at the location and the pool info seems correct. there doesnt appear to be an option here to attach an image but trust me the pool info is correct. i might try renaming the miner and creating a new worker on the pool

|
|
Sorry, but that's a really dumb thing to do
Oh how come? What do you do? Use multiple pools?
|
|
|
Sounds good. I would definitely hang out until you see it show up on the pool this time save yourself a trip.
Yeah the only issue with the hashrate showing is you are potentially mining for someone else. Maybe Canaan if it went back to factory settings.
What pool if you don't mind me asking? I know some have different ways for reporting multiple workers, if they're designated.
all my asics are on antpool

That's weird. You must be mining somewhere if you are seeing the 7TH at the controller, they don't just idle along hashing to themselves.
Can you post a screenshot if your status page. That will show us where you are pointed. You might also want to double check the pool you are mining to maybe the problem is a worker name or something. Not sure if some of the pool settings would reset when you shut things off.
Edit: did you restart the controller as well when you shut everything down or just the miner?
hi thanks for the reply. yes i definitely restarted the controller as well but i must admit i did not check if the pool settings had changed. when i go back to the location tomorrow i'll double check and do a screen shot. unfortunately i don't have remote access. its hooked up to a sim card router and i haven't worked out how to setup up remote access yet. it's reassuring that you say it wouldn't display hash results if it wasn't mining. P.S. the router also has another miner connected to it which IS showing up on the pool. so i know the router is working ok. zac

Hi all. I have an Avalon 741 at a remote location. It's been mining just fine until I had to switch it off briefly two days ago.
Now it will not show up on the pool . I waited 24 hours but it still didn't show. So I went to the miner and rebooted everything. It's showing approx 7th on the controller but it's still not showing on the pool.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks Zac
