1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining vBASIC || Community Edition 2.0 on: May 31, 2018, 03:54:54 AM
All my rigs are having the same problem -

Mining starts fine, cards get kind of hot pretty fast and then one by one they stop and I get an error saying "GPU0 appears to have stopped, attempting restart"

All fans are working, and occasionally one fan will seem to be working super hard.

I do not have any max temp settings enabled.

Any ideas? Thanks!

This is a 94 year old man who couldn't install microsoft office on his own computer if his old salty life depended on it.

Who in the hell cares what he has to say about one of the most advanced and widespread reaching inventions since the internet?

The whole investment community acts like him and stupid Buffett are like Master Splinter - I have said it many times, the way they amassed their wealth was not exactly breathtaking - they used vast resources to take big risks and then when it worked out for them they went around telling everyone to be conservative investors and just wait a million years and it will work out.

As an investment professional I cannot tell you how annoying it is to have to hear about these two idiots every single day. Imagine you are a sysadmin or cryptographer and have to hear about what an amazing person stupid steve jobs was every day. He invented a big trapped "ecosystem" that forced you to pay more money for one mouse button. Shut up already jesus horatio christ on a crutch.

Charlie Munger is a stupid old man.

Him and Buffett are supremely overrated in the investment community and I am tired as all hell hearing their names on a daily basis.

Buffet put half his net worth in one company and got lucky. he is not "The greatest investor ever" - he is a stupid old man that got lucky, then used billions to make super long term investments than anyone could have done with that much capital.

If he had to do it all over again he would have no clue where to begin as he has no idea the world in which he lives - he probably still uses a "word processor."
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Server PSU or ATX PSU? on: February 06, 2018, 12:01:25 AM
I just hooked up a rig with a 1000w ATX powersupply running 2 1080 ti's and another 1000w server powersupply with a breakoutboard connected to it and individual cables to each card and risers, powering an additional 2 1080 ti's.

I could maybe add another card, but 1080 ti's are such beasts I don't want to get too close to capacity.

I will post a photo of what I did, but very happy with the sever PSU's and in the future, will use a small PSU for the motherboard only and a server PSU for cards.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I Buy or Sell now? on: February 05, 2018, 05:48:22 PM
One data point - the overall market cap of crypto is the same as it was on Dec 6th and that is 10x larger than it was the previous 12 months.

There is a lot of headline risk - a lot of bad news coming out of China, banks banning credit card purchases (which was inevitable) - and remember, a bunch of people made a bunch of money in the last three months.

There is not a lot of transparency in these markets, so every reasonable person should have a piece of paranoia in their mind wondering if there is a tremendous pump and dump coordinated by the biggest holders. Much crazier things have happened.

Valuation is key and hard to determine. Why is BTC worth 5k and not 8k? Why should be worth 20k ? No one really knows those answers because they aren't linked to fundamental use cases. If you are buying coins on thinking they are the future of something, that is great and I encourage you - but remember that you could be buying them for way more than they will be worth one day. They might not disappear but if you are in it to make money in six months, there is danger there for you.

Much of what I wrote can be applied to any time period. Allocate appropriately.
6  Local / India / Re: India Budget 2018-19 | Arun Jaitley, Finance Minister of India on Cryptocurrency on: February 02, 2018, 07:55:37 PM
My interpretation was "as part of the payment system" referred to a payment system for illegitimate activities.

Otherwise why wouldn't he just say "eliminate cryptocurrencies."

Thank you for the correction, can you tell me was it "illegitamate activities as part of the payment system" or "illegitamate activities or as part of the payment system." so that I can correct it.

You didn't misquote it, I was just questioning how we should interpret what was said.
7  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hold or Sell on: February 02, 2018, 05:04:14 PM
Compare these two periods:

Compare these two periods of Bitcoin prices historically:
Dec 7 2016  - $763
Dec 28 2016 - $1,135 (+48%)
Jan 4 2017  - $785 (-31%)
March 8 2017 - $1,146 (+46%)

Nov 1 2017: - $6,737
Dec 13 2017: - $16,461 (+144%)
Feb 2 2018 - $9,135 (-44%)

The time periods of course aren't lined up exactly, but the price action is comparable.

With the popularity and millionaires made, and the fact that it is all over TV - I believe is starting to cause a lot of resentment in banking and investment community. You continually hear about blockchain being good, but bitcoin being bad or a "bubble" and impossible to control. Well, it is impossible to control by design - decentralization was the key.

You can kind of piece together news for a cause, but as you can see this is just a very volatile space. I am already fully invested, even in my swing trading account I bought some Ripple too soon and didn't expect this dip (like everyone else.) In my personal opinion it doesn't look like a crash - this is just the nature of the instruments. Many people say "crash" but don't realize what they are invoking,  I have seen crashes in 2008. It is constant selling off, with increasing volumes, every day scarier than the previous. Looking at these charts it just looks like a pattern on greater magnitude because the numbers are bigger.

The one currency that appears to be the most resilient is Ethereum in my view. BTC still has the most liquidity so I don't see it going away, but if I was going to buy anything on the dip it would be ETH.

Can someone clarify the response to the OP's question about having one PSU for the motherboard and the Server PSU dedicated to PCIE adapters for the cards?

I read the reply where someone said they turn on the server pSU 1 second before the main power, but I was wondering if there were opinions on this. I have read other people online say not to do that, but they didn't display a reason why/how it is dangerous.

Thanks

I don't use server PSU's but I have them turn on at the same time by having a dual PSU cord. The one below is good for 2000W or so.

https://www.amazon.com/Leboo-Motherboard-Mainboard-Connector-Extension/dp/B075VRMQ55/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1516760109&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=dual+PSU+cable&psc=1

That's exactly the cable I used when I hooked up one 350w (yes I know) and one 650w PSU to a rig with one 1080 and 1080ti and it killed one of the PSU's (I forgot which), I realize - the draw was too much and that 350w does not mean 350w is maximum draw.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: when btc will go 10x in value does this mean my alts go too ? on: January 22, 2018, 03:07:35 AM
As an investor I don't appreciate the correlation of coins approaching 1 - once coins start trading on their merits and individual fundamentals sanity will return, but that is a long, long ways off.

Institutional money is just gearing up to get involved, and I promise they will cause the correlations to further increase and speculate so much that it will be one risk-on risk-off casino in crypto.

Wall street is great at ruining everything.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Crazydane's 32 kw solar array build feeding 16 kw worth of miners on: January 21, 2018, 03:48:11 PM
Hi Dane, also saw your video on Vosk's channel and very impressed.

I know you addressed building bank with your power company, and I have a similar arrangement (but much smaller one) using Solar City that came with the house when I purchased it -- but I have been recently interested in the idea of building a powerwall.

As stated, batteries are quite expensive - to run 15 cards drawing 200w each, I would need 10,000 cells, and you are lucky to get those at a dollar a cell plus panels to charge them.

Would you ever consider this ? Sounds like you have a fine plan as it is, but if the grid goes down (which it rarely does) you have only that generator. Thoughts?
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / First PSU BBQ (no sauce included) on: January 21, 2018, 02:12:51 PM
I am slowly building out my farm and have a couple rigs up that have had various configurations and I haven't been able to get my hands on PSU's bigger than 1000w.

I have 1 extra 1080 ti and one 1070 that I decided together could live off a 700w (I have a rig with 2 1080 ti's on one 700w and its been going for weeks no problems and good temps)

I'm also using a 2 year old gigabyte board which doesn't really like the pcie expansion adapters so I just tried one 1080 in the main slot to make sure everything was okay. I had previously tried one 380w PSU bridged to a 600w PSU and out of the blue, one of the PSU's just died.

I plug in a brand new EVGA 750w PSU, thinking finally learned my lesson about bootsy configs with old junk.
Mining begins for a few hours and I'm just happy this stupid motherboard is finally up and making coin.

I get a free moment and think, okay, let's hook up that 1070 and get this has rate over 1k sol/s. When I go to turn off the rig, i notice the PSU is hot and think that's odd (mind you there is one 1080 ti on at this point.)

I hook up the 1070 position it all and everything, pick up the power switch and I'm staring at the CPU fan hesitate, spin a little, stop, spin again. stop. Smoke comes out of the hours old PSU. then I feel the wires and the 8 pin PCIe going to the 1070 is super hot.

To make things better, I can't remember where I got this - with the shortage of everything mining related I have been buying stuff that comes up on google shopping. It looks like a perfect EVGA unit too, but there is a big sticker that says made in China on it, never noticed that on my other EVGA units.  You guys are probably laughing for probably the 2nd time at this point.

This is a good opportunity to mention how much I like the 1060's and how versatile and less demanding they are.

EDIT: oh good my other 700w power supply just died too. The one that I was saying supported the 1080 ti's "no problems and good temps." OKAY NO MORE  700's I GUESS
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining v0019-1.4 on: January 20, 2018, 06:15:32 PM
Can you post the older versions on your downloads page? I had success with 0017 on certain machines, but the onebash directory problem on improper shutdowns caused problems for me. I also ended up deleting the IamNotAJeep stuff in the new one as the default power limits were giving me hang ups.

Also using a board that is not on the list, so wanted to give 0018 a shot. An official D/L location would be greatly appreciated, although I understand if you want to only be supporting latest versions and posting it only accordingly.

Thanks!

EDIT: I got 0019 to work just now. I didn't realize it wasn't defaulting to EWBF and I turned off a lot of the new features (I have things I want up and running asap so I will definitely explore them in the future.) Thanks for all you have done!
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My small farm build, with pics on: January 19, 2018, 09:21:23 PM
I know the question was directed at me - but I purchased ethOS which is similar to the link you posted. I honestly haven't even taken it out of the bag because I have been using nvOC EWF CUDA miner on all my machines. The last build was giving me a few issues and it doesn't seem to like 2 year old Gigabyte boards (or the ones I give it) much. IF you aren't linux-phobic it is great.

I have always want to learn Linux since I was a teenager but didn't have the work ethic or patience, but crypto is giving me a whole new motivation Smiley
16  Economy / Economics / Re: Do bitcoin millonaires deserve their wealth? on: January 19, 2018, 06:03:33 PM
HELLZ YEAH THEY DO

Let me tell you who doesn't deserve their wealth:

- Kanye West
- Kim Kardashian
- Almost everyone in Hollywood
- Almost everyone on Capitol Hill making money starting wars and spreading fear

Crypto investing is noble and the future - if we can incentive some people with greed, small price to pay!
17  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken : to do list on: January 19, 2018, 05:55:55 PM
+1 on show active value of each coin on overview and not just aggregated account total.

- add "buy max" "sell max" when selling pairs

Thank you very much. Man I wish I had an electrician friend...

Amazing how we make mistakes when we are tired. Every time I did something like to a car I was working on, I was tired and not thinking right and it wouldn't have happened in the morning. No worries mate! Small price to pay in the long run.

Sorry if everyone else knows this, but is 240v the way to go for the ANT miners? I see it commonly for ETH and BTC. I am mining Zcash right now and wondering if I should run on 240v. Thanks again, and like others said, great job on getting your son involved. I bought my daughter a commemorative Bitcoin little coin as she is only 4 but I'm excited to share my obsession with her as the years go on.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My small farm build, with pics on: January 18, 2018, 10:42:42 PM
Looks great! Thanks for sharing. I also mount my motherboards on boxes Cheesy

I'm working on a custom rig frame now (similar to other ones out there with stylistic touches) which I will sell if my prototypes look worth it.

Can you elaborate on what your electrician friend did, or what it would cost? that is the piece that I am most debating, right now I have rigs on various circuits but I want to move to a dedicated location and route power there. In the middle of this I am learning about how to become an electrician.

Also can you tell us what the embarrassing mistake you made that fried one of your cards was, in the interest of not making it ourselves?

Thanks. And I can't believe I have been so obsessed with crypto and just found this forum, it's excellent.
