Merit sucks. I've been studying threads and posts and now at this point it's obvious that people don't award merit to others for good posts, they reward it because they know each other on here. Very sad system. It needs to be trashed or redone.

Not true, I speak to very few people here on a personal level. I’ve been giving out Smerits based on what I see as good, constructive posts that hold value to people in the community. Stop being so paranoid buddy & concentrate on posting high quality stuff & you’ll get rewarded.

One generous person Wink

What's the point in anything if it can be illicitly abused? Might as well just get rid of every law ever created. No point in qualifications either when you can just buy one off the internet. I don't think any system where you can gain some reward or qualification or kudos will be free from abuse but that doesn't mean it is worthless.

so  now the main purpose of merit system appear. for abusing!

No, the main system is to reward great content and for those people to earn benefits they deserve. Lazy unscrupulous people will try abuse it though just like they will try abuse or exploit any other system, but as I just said it doesn't make it worthless.

Why there is not a beta version, a referendum?
I think this system is too poor. There should be a large and full function merit system, not just a button and click on it, put some merits. it's not like that. It should have more function, maybe like if someone report some fraud, and Mod record it, after 10 times reported successfully, reporters earn merit...just example, many other can go with this merit system

agreed, a beta version would've been better.

This is the problem right now about the merit system but it doesn't mean its not good, it just so happen that we have our own standard and we can't dictate people from giving merit if you just saw a quality post then you might either give merit or just scroll down because you can't do anything about it.

If you really want to help people from getting merit then try to post the link of their quality post here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2819141.0
Don't worry, later on everyone here will adopt the new system and give merits to those who really deserve it.

and what if the thread is spammed with posts which don't deserve merit? The posts which deserve merit will get covered with spam posts.

That can happen but still, this might be a good idea because there's currently little incentive for the older members to help out newbies knowing that they likely won't have any sMerits to give out (unless other older members see the random act of kindness I guess). The problem would lie in making sure the system doesn't encourage any more account farming, which is exactly what the Merit system hoped to combat, while making sure it gives enough incentives for older members to actually bother.

The only good Merit has done is that it prevents account farming and I am seeing improvement in the content as well. But, at this stage, the main problem is how to get MERIT.

When merit isn't given to good authors, it makes me sad :C

And your point about exchanging merits, for instance, someone sends you 10 merit and you send back 5 merit back and so on, this would just spoil the system and will give the undeserving a better position in this forum.

But what if people trade merit, like I mentioned above? Or what if people just buy Merit and then merit lands to some lazy unscrupulous person and he's in a better ranking than the one who really deserves a better position but doesn't get merit points.

Wise comment. You just changed my opinion about merit system.

People can illicitly transfer Merit to others. What's the point of the merit system if such things happen?

I heard it on some Tech vlogger's YouTube video a few years back.

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To be honest, how many people use bitcoin to invest on: January 27, 2018, 05:14:44 AM
I myself use bitcoin as an investment. When BTC was at 200-300$ I invested some money and cashed out what I had invested when it hit the 20k mark Cheesy ez profit. Now, its on a low price and I'm still investing on it. Hope it comes back to the 20k mark soon Cheesy

I've convinced my parents, few relatives and my friends to invest in cryptos.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it still worth mining bitcoin in 2018 ? on: January 25, 2018, 11:24:43 AM
Imo it isn't worth it to mine bitcoins in 2018 as the current electricity rates are very high (especially in India) and even Nvidia declared that they don't want to sell GPUs to miners but they want to sell them to gamers as they get feedback from them.

Keeping the hardware and electricity issues aside, the difficulty while mining has increased as well and this is becoming a lot more competitive than expected.

Therefore, I don't think that investing in a mining rig would be profitable in the current scenario.
