1  Bitcoin / Mining / OC in windows, use settings in Linux? on: June 10, 2011, 07:14:11 PM
Hello all,

I'm totally new to the linux scene and recently installed Ubuntu 11.04. I have Win7 64-bit on the same machine as well.

My question is, if I overclocked my GPU via windows 7 since there are so many applications to do that there, will the settings remain the same when restarting and booting into Ubuntu? If that's possible, will it be alright to switch the GPU to a totally separate machine with a different motherboard?

Anyone?

Since a lot have been complaining about deepbit's user base being too large, I'm interested to know about the general experience of people with different hash rates and pools, maybe that'll encourage people to look at other options.

So, please post your:

- Hash rate (mhashes/s)
- Mining pool you're using
- Net BTC generated per day on average.

4  Bitcoin / Mining / About the difficulty increase rate on: June 06, 2011, 01:19:47 PM
If the load on the network remains the same (Thashes/s), will the difficulty continue to grow at the same rate or will it be slower?

Because for example the next difficulty will hit in around a week with an approximate increase of another 200,000. At this rate the difficulty would hit 3,000,000 in like 3 months or less.

So:

1- Will it increase at this rate or will the next difficulty come around slower if the thashes/s remain around the same.
2- Is it possible for the difficulty to Decrease? if so, how?

Would appreciate any help.

Will the difficulty level get harder for sure by tomorrow? If so, how can you calculate when will the difficulty will change and how much will the new difficulty will be?

I'm still new to this so please bear with me.

up at top, give estimated diff, how many blocks until it changes and also how many blocks per hour so you can sorda get rough idea

http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/

Estimated   560419 in 74 blks
Blocks/hour   12.59

74/12.59= roughly 6 hours till increase

Thanks a lot that's exactly what I wanted to understand =).

When do "Unconfirmed" rewards become "Confirmed" and when do they get cancelled and don't add up at all?

I see people hanging their GPUs all over the place via adapters to those x1 slots, can someone please explain to me how that works? is it safe or even reduces performance since you're not using a x16 2.0 slot?

A couple of quick & very newbie questions:

1- I know that the pool gets 1 BTC as a fee from each found 50 BTC block to keep the servers running, but is there any fee deductions from my payout as well? For example I set my payout to be when I reach 5 BTC, will I get that or less due to certain fees? If yes, how much are they?

2- When setting my wallet address, is that one of my "Receiving Addresses" codes from the Bitcoin application?

Any help would be appreciated.

1) no fee deductions from your payout, you will get it once you have more than your limit 5

2) exactly - the receiving address.

Thanks a lot for the fast response =).

11  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much luck is involved ? on: June 05, 2011, 02:20:21 PM
@Litt , but that isn't the case with pool mining, right?

Because from what I read so far it seems to generate pretty steady BTC, some amount of luck seem to be involved, but a lot less than solo mining.

If someone is running a 1.4 Ghashes/sec machine and is using pool mining, is it absurd to think he can generate 2.5-3 BTC/day during most days of the month?

Hi all,

Just a quick question, when it comes to gaming, if a CPU isn't powerful enough, you won't be able to use your GPU's full potential. Is that the case with BTC mining as well?

Lets say that you have enough PCI-E slots and enough power coming from a quality PSU. If you have these 2 setups:

1- Low end Intel Core 2 duo processor (or AMD Athlon x2/x4) + AMD 5870
2- Core i7 930 + AMD 5870

Will you get a hash rate of 400mhash/s with both setups or will it only be possible with the i7 930?

Thank you all for replying, more input about your experience with BTC would be great.
15  Bitcoin / Mining / How much luck is involved ? on: June 04, 2011, 04:51:43 PM
Hello all,

I just heard about Bitcoin recently and wanted to get an idea about how it works. Lets say that you have a machine that's capable of outputting 800mhash/sec, based on a calculator I checked using a difficulty of 434882.7217497 (I'm assuming that's today's rate), it says that such machine can generate around 1.85 BTC per day.

Now my questions are:

1- Is this amount accurate?
2- If yes, Is this based on Solo or Pool effort?
3- How much luck is involved to get that amount on daily basis? For example is it possible that you spend days earning nothing or do you approximately get that amount or close to it (more or less) per day? I'm just talking about the current difficulty level, I know in the future it might be much harder.

Any help would be appreciated.
