1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cardano will replace ETH! on: January 08, 2019, 12:40:54 PM
At this point, looking at what ETH has got for its fan and how fast it is going, it has shown that Cardano is in no way  a good competitor for it. Well, I do not know the development that awaits cardano in future, yet it is very glaring that ETH has got all it needs to surpass it.
So, my believe is that, the CEO knows the fact that ETH is better, but he is looking for publicity.
You always have to be careful with these alternative coins. But this one looks solid so far.
Well, I am always looking for "insider" opinions on Cardano. It is hard to believe everything we read about the project.

I have already scratched a lot on Google to know more but it is sometimes difficult to ponder the good and the less good, the true and the fake, token of the future or shitcoin? Who knows... But one thing that many agree with is that this project is very complex. And due to this complexity, it is also possible IMO that Cardano will stick to the implementation of DApps for very critical systems only (aeronautics, space, etc.). So other small decentralized applications may find it more interesting to go through a less complex blockchain (for instance Lisk or EOS).

Big Rafa Nadal fan here but money is money, I will bet against him at the Australian Open, he will not go deep in my opinion.
I like the attitude and I wish I could be the same LOL

There are number of occasions I bet for my favorite team/player knowing that they have the chance to lose but I could not resist to bet against them. I know it does not make sense but I bet there are hundreds of people like me around.
This is a very human behavior actually Smiley But the thing I love about my favorite players is that I know them very well, because I support them. Another player I usually know when he will lose is Kei Nishikori, of course I am not right every time but I seem to know him so well because he is one my favorites.

Back on topic, if you are looking for odds @ 1.30 for tomorrow on the Challenger tour, go for this one > https://www.tennisexplorer.com/match-detail/?id=1762101

The Polish player is by far the better player here and should win comfortably, he had a very successful season 2018 and he will progress even more in 2019.
3  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The danger is the addiction, not the odds on: January 08, 2019, 12:24:05 PM
not only eagerness to win but also the willingness to make fun . yes most of us enjoy gambling in order to past the time but if they hooked in the game too much they didnt even realize that they are already addicted on playing . every game do also have a different set of odds . lottery has a higher odds while most online gambling do have a lower odds which we can easily beat them but then again addiction  will suddenly strike to us  .
When I gamble I always fall for the odds even though I know that winning this odd has less chance. Here is another problem I face. When I lose I double or triple (even more) the bet and if I lose that then I do the same.

So I found both the odds and chasing is the cause of gambling addiction.
Well actually the odds are important. If you think you have 10% chance to win the wager, but the odds will give you a return of 12 times your initial stake, then it is worth it. Too many people forget about this, but this is the right way to consider a wager, in my opinion.

Quote
When I lose I double or triple (even more) the bet and if I lose that then I do the same.

This, is of course not good Smiley martingale, can be good to win money short term but dangerous if you use this strategy too many times.

4  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 08, 2019, 12:19:51 PM
This thread has recently blown up with posts which is great to see as at one stage it was just myself, Kemarit and one or two other guys posting in here. I'm really liking Alex de Minaur in the Sydney International to maybe go all the way and win the tournament, he has been playing some very good tennis coming off a very successful 2018 so I think he has a big chance at winning.

Exactly, nice to see this thread come to life again with so many fans and not just fans but offering a lot of tips and analysis of the game. As a have said before, Alex de Minaur is the future of Australian tennis and it will be just a matter of time for him to be the a future Grand Slam winner.

Nadal was in action last night in the fast4 tennis event where he was up against Kyrgios, Nadal ended up losing the match but it gave him a chance to get some fitness up ahead of the Australian Open. It looked like he got through the match okay so hopefully he will be right for the Australian Open, I'm not sure if he will be 100% fit but even at 80% Nadal is a tough person to beat.

Bad sign, it only shows that he is not fully recuperated and might need some time to heal this body. Again, he is not getting any younger, might be another reason why his body is slow to react to rehab or medicine. Might be good for him to take some time off and let his body healed 100%.

Off topic: Glad to see you back on Bitvest campaign.

Big Rafa Nadal fan here but money is money, I will bet against him at the Australian Open, he will not go deep in my opinion.

Otherwise, for tomorrow, I love the odds of Diego Schwartzmann @ 1.73 to beat Guillermo Garcia Lopez. The latter is pretty much done as a player, in relative terms, the reason of those odds is probably the fact that the Spaniard has played several matches this season, while Diego Schw. has played none so far. Also, the Argentinean can be inconsistent when he is short of energy (his game requires a lot of energy!) but at these odds 1.73 no brainer for me, I'll play it and hope it hits tomorrow.
5  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-01-08] journalducoin.com - Ethereum Classic: $ 1.1 million stolen on: January 08, 2019, 12:13:14 PM
Original article here > https://journalducoin.com/altcoins/attaque-51-sur-ethereum-classic-11-million-de-dollars-derobes/ Translation by myself with the help of Google translate:

Another news that we wish we were not publishing: the blockchain Ethereum Classic (ETC) suffered a 51% attack over the weekend, leading to several reorganizations of the blockchain, the latter allowing various double-spending. The most pessimistic mention circa 29,500 stolen ETCs, more than 1 million dollars at the time of the attack.

"Paper mache" safety from Ethereum Classic (ETC)

Securing a blockchain is not easy. To overcome this concern, most cryptocurrencies operate on a Proof-of-Work (PoW) system. To validate a block, miners must make a complex "mathematical puzzle", requiring a high computing power (hashrate).
It is this necessity that guarantees the security of a network, to the extent that taking control requires a computing power greater than 50% of the total.

If this system performs its role well for cryptocurrencies where the miners are numerous - and therefore the hashrate high enough to be dissuasive - this is not necessarily the case for currencies with a more modest capitalization. It is estimated - for example - that it would take more than $ 1.4 billion to only consider a 51% attack on the Bitcoin network (BTC), when some altcoins do not require more than a few thousand dollars for the same result . In this case, attacking Ethereum Classic costs just over $ 4,500 per hour. One can also appreciate the "plug & play" of an attack on ETC, since it would be enough to rent servers on NiceHash.

Attack of 51% on ETC

Let's get back to the heart of the matter, with the latest case of 51% attack, whose victim is ... Ethereum Classic (ETC).

One of the first mentions of this attack was made by CoinNess, this Sunday (January 6th). The media reported that a Chinese cybersecurity firm specializing in blockchains - SlowMist - had sent them an ETC alert. According to them, the cryptocurrency was currently under attack by 51%, and deep reorganizations of the blockchain had been identified.

Very quickly, the Ethereum Classic team commented on the case on Twitter. At this point, the attack is considered a "rumor".

A handful of hours later, and it's the jerk of battle. The official ETC Twitter request to all exchanges and mining pool dealing with the currency to increase at most the confirmation times for ETC withdrawals and deposits.

According to various reports, it is between 400 000 and 1.1 million dollars in ETC which were diverted, Coinbase mentions for example 290 500 ETC, which would have been stolen during about twenty deep reorganizations of the blockchain allowing duplicates expenses.

Here are several technical terms that can scare the neophytes, but do not panic! The Journal du Coin recently released a lexicon that will allow you to speak crypto-language fluently.

Thank you Coinbase!

As usual, each new event of its kind brings a lot of drama into the cryptoworld. This time we find regulars of this kind of shoots, I named Coinbase!

Indeed, in an article about this attack, the team claims to have detected a reorganization of the blockchain on Saturday, January 5, almost 24 hours before the first alerts. Far from them the idea of keeping anyone informed, they simply suspended ETC deposits and withdrawals without further ado. The ETC team commented on Twitter about this.

"Regarding the account of the recent events of Coinbase: they allegedly detected double expenses, but unfortunately did not contact the ETC team regarding the attack."

For now, interactions with ETC are disabled on most exchanges. It will take a little more patience to measure the damage amplitude, but this attack is a new lesson. Many altcoins are easy prey, and any ill-intentioned and well-prepared individual can wreak havoc on the cryptos at the bottom of the board. Note that Elythereum Classic is ranked 18th in the ranking of the largest caps. This gives you an idea of the size of the "bottom of the table". If it is not individual CTOs stolen here, the attack has had a definite impact on the price, and all investors are thus hurt.
6  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Documenting my Horse Racing Bets - Started: 26-DEC-2018 on: January 08, 2019, 09:26:02 AM

Thank you.
I will relate to it later on about addictions etc. - it's a very important topic.
Just a bit busy now to discuss it, but I'd relate to it later on.

Gambling addiction is a serious problem, and like I mentioned in this thread and exemplified - it's very much addicting ... there are so many ways to gamble and it's also tempting for many "houses" (=gambling establishments) to take commission from all this action.

Being the house is the smartest thing to do ... being a gambler is not so smart, it's like you being a customer, not a business owner ... so you have to abide by the business rules, it's a 2nd class option vs 1st class, however you look at it.

The addiction itself - MUST be arrested if necessary, that means that people who say here "control it, don't bet if you don't have to" don't understand that it doesn't work that way .... preventing any access to money or to quick funds is the right way to move it forward ...

If you have no money - you cannot bet.
If you have no money - you cannot gamble.

The term "arresting the addiction" must be applied if you feel like you cannot put things under control.

Now regarding this type of betting (that I did) - I treated it like an investment, like buying a stock in the market, it has gained nicely in % so I decided to quit ... I think if I'd want to try it again I'd use Skrill or Neteller or another proper form of deposit to avoid fees such as 2% for Bitcoin, or use an agent that takes Bank Transfers or any other proper form of deposit, or use BetFair directly (although I'm slightly against this option as agents are more reliable in my opinion and don't cause lots of hassles).

Anyway I hope this way of gambling has been proven to many of you to be quite successful, there were very few risks with these bets, as I mentioned perhaps 2 or 3 bets out of over 100 bets were in a high risk position, so it's considerably not bad, but you must learn how to choose the right place .... for instance South Africa and Singapore are places where horses of 150 win too often .... in Australia it's a much different territory.

If anyone has other questions or feedback please feel free to post it here.

If you are still online on this forum, I would like to ask you which website did you use to check about races in Australia.

The biggest website (Attheraces.com) ignore races in Australia, even though I was saying your strategy is dangerous (but all are, right?) I am still curious to get some more informations about the races (Maiden, Handicap, etc.). And if you come back I will be interested to keep an eye on your next strategy.  Wink
And very well done by the way, it is rare to see someone leaving after a profit. Most people always come back and end up losing eventually. So kudos!
7  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling is growing at nonstop rates in my country on: January 08, 2019, 09:21:47 AM
In most under-developed countries, where there are few employment opportunities, people tend to try gambling to change their faith. That's one reason why gambling is increasing all over the world.
I don't think gambling is popular in under developed county. When people have money they can try options but when they don't have much to live then their options are limited. I guess westerners are the targeted customers for gambling industry.

Yeah, they don't want to use the money for just gamble because they must buy their needs. Although the gambling itself is not popular in the under-develop country, I think some people still playing gambling because they believe that they can earn money with fast. People will play in the hidden place, and they will play the traditional gambling only because this is what they did.

Generally, rich people are the ones that gambles a lot. Some poor people gamble too but with limited volume and are mostly betting with their friends and locals. Some countries like Singapore imposed high entrance fees on their local citizens when entering casinos.

No, I don't think so because rich people want to increase their wealth by investing in many places. But some of them like to gambles and spend their money for fun only. So both rich people and poor people like to gamble and risk their money to get more money. Whoa, if in Singapore imposed high entrance fees, then the poor people can only gamble in the dark area which is free without paying any fee.

I cannot understand the notion that only rich people can gamble. Yes they are capable because of their money but right now I see more middle class person as well digging into gambling maybe to have some fun with friends or just as pastime or just wanted to win big. I think Singapore has a very strict law in terms of gambling just like in my country, but boy there are a lot of illegal gambling dens around here as well.

I think its wrong to say there is only one type of person who is
gambling. Gambling is advertised everywhere and advertised
heavily in soccer in the U.K for instance.

People in the middle class gamble for sure as well as people
from poorer classes. It offers a chance for a potentially small
stake to make big gains.

The thing is, in the UK betting on anything is possible because it is cultural. It is the same in Las Vegas (obviously), for some reason betting is much more popular in Greece than in Italy (not sure why), there are differences in Europe that I fail to explain.

In other cultures it is a sin to gamble (Israel I think, please correct me if I am wrong). So if I take the example of the UK, I think people who bet there have a lot of money, they do it for fun, just casual betting. In Asian countries however, people prefer to go to Casinos, but it is often illegal, most do it underground.

9  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-01-08] journalducoin.com - Kraken denounces US harassment with 315... on: January 08, 2019, 09:13:10 AM
Kraken denounces US harassment with 315 legal assignments.

Original article here > https://journalducoin.com/exchanges/kraken-denonce-un-harcelement-americain-avec-315-assignations-juridiques/

Translation in English:

Jesse Powell, co-founder and CEO of the Kraken Exchange, did not appreciate the inquisitorial questionnaire of the New York Attorney General. But given the number of sticks in the wheels that seem to put the US administrations to crypto-exchanges - and more particularly to Kraken - we understand better this enmity.

Kraken drowned under US assignments

In a very informative infographic (see below), carried out by them, Kraken denounces the tremendous increase in assignments and requests for compliance with laws. There were 475 requests in 2018, 3 times more than in 2017!

The top of the top is undeniably in the United States with 315 requests alone in 2018. The other countries that have issued more than 10 requests are:

the United Kingdom: 61
Germany: 34
France: 20

We can even see a clear increase during the year, with systematically more than 35 requests received per month since this summer.

The HSI - Homeland Security Investigations - and the FBI are the two most questioning US entities with 158 queries to their credit. The SEC and the CFTC, well known in the cryptoworld, have issued respectively 19 and 10 requests for investigation.

Kraken denounces an unjustified barrier to entry

According to Kraken, this increasing number of legal inquiries becomes a real barrier to entry for the operation of a crypto-exchange in the United States (Kraken is based in San Francisco), because of the huge legal costs to respond to it. . These summons require at least a production of documents, and sometimes a request to appear in court.

The cost of legal compliance is, according to the exchange, one of the main reasons why many companies choose to deny US users.

This new case tends to explain why Jesse Powell, CEO of Kraken, is so fiery about US regulators, he also refused to answer the questionnaire of the Attorney General of New York and said about BitLicense:

"[This is] a creature so fetid, so cruel that even Kraken has neither the courage nor the strength to cope with his sharp, big and nasty teeth".

10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you play at a casino where payments are delayed for days? Why? on: January 08, 2019, 08:53:42 AM
To put it in simple terms the answer is most definitely not!

Let me ask everyone another question relating to this topic:
If you worked 40 hours for the week, from Monday to Friday, would you expect to be paid after you worked?  Which is Friday
Or, would you be satisfied with waiting 48 hours and being paid on Sunday or even Monday.
I would want my money immediately, why make wait for a delay?

In many countries you get paid once a month, where I live I get paid on the 3rd or 4th day of each month. All the work I did from January 2 to today January 7 will not be paid until 4 weeks from now. People are used to it.
Now if a casino delays payments on purpose for some reason, it is important to ask why. If they do this to all customers or you only. If the situation is unfair then of course you have the right to complain.
You can always send an email to their license (if they have one).
11  Economy / Economics / Re: USD will crash before BTC on: January 08, 2019, 08:48:33 AM
I have a question to you jjjfff. Don't get me wrong I wholeheartedly agree with you about the debt and the consequence on the US dollar, however my question is: how do you imagine that Bitcoin will not collapse if the US dollar does?

Unfortunately I still think Bitcoin is much more fragile than a fiat currency such as USD. This would be insanely good news for some of us here if Bitcoin remained strong in such scenario, but I cannot see happening.

Curious to hear your thoughts.
12  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2018-2019 betting on: January 08, 2019, 08:41:18 AM
Hi guys,

Here are the odds I have for tonight's games:

What are your predictions?

I am leaning towards the Rockets @ 1.838. And probably the Spurs @ 1.611 they should do the job, maybe minus the points (-3.50 @ 1.916).

Thoughts?
I take this two for my parlays, playing for fun and just a small amount as I really have a good feelings that spurs and and rockets will take this game away from their respective opponents, Harden loves to play against tough teams and he really wanted to showcase his skills when facing competitive players, while spurs might found their chemistry and playing as a team more likely now.

The Rockets with that odd at home is a good take. I also have a bet on Bucks against Jazz which I think should be a safe gamble. I do think that the best way to bet on NBA is during the playoffs where nearly all games the teams will do everything to get the wins.
"safe" is a stretch here. Utah is 6-1-1 ATS in last 8 games playing on one day of rest, and Milwaukee 0-4 ATS in last 4 games against West Conference foes (ok this stat is not the most meaningful but I'll take it into account).
I like Utah + 5.5 points. So we can both win here, perhaps a win from Milwaukee 103-100 or similar.

Good analysis right there. But I got the win on both my bets. I just believed that Milwaukee is on fire. Giannis Antetokounmpo is up for the challenge on retaining its top spot in the eastern conference.

Alright, ready for the next bets by op.

Well, 114 to 102, just to good, well done.
Expected better but Milwaukee was indeed on fire last night.

Raptors -14.5 @ 1.95 is my pick on the incoming games. A lot of depth in this team. Should prevail very easily.
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: How to enter a perfect trade and stop being a loser. on: January 08, 2019, 08:36:21 AM
I also want to learn short trades maybe after I recover most of my investments. Good trades are always profitable regardless of the market conditions, once you have strong analysis and experiences you can always have good profits in short period of time.
If you've never done any trading before, I strongly recommend not to invest real money at first, or try with a very little investment, but the best is to test different strategies by placing "blank" money and see how it goes.

Huge difficulty in this field is to control your emotions. There are thousands of reasons why even the most experienced traders will take bad decisions because they did not comply with strict money management rules.
14  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 08, 2019, 08:31:48 AM
Match summary for those brothers and sisters who missed the event but have love for tennis:
Rublev easily overpowered Lucas Pouille, whose disappointing recent form continues. Pouille was continually knocked back by the pace of the ball coming at him, with the court playing quite fast in the heat. He found himself down a set and a break before he could get into the match at all, and such a quick first set also didn’t allow time for Rublev to have one of his usual dips. The Russian simply wasn’t missing much though, dominating play with his power and never facing a breakpoint, and Pouille’s lack of a plan B to break that rhythm became painfully apparent. Rublev 21w 12ue; Pouille 11w 23ue. Rublev 6/2 6/3.
Lucas Pouille is now working with Amelie Mauresmo, not sure how it will work out, she should be a good coach and the effects of the teaming won't become apparent straight away anyway, but yes he's been a massive disappointment last twelve months. Cannot believe he made it to the top 10 for a few weeks, taking advantage of weak fields in small events.

Hope Andrey Rublev will deliver this season, even though his game is really one dimensional at the moment.

15  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 08, 2019, 08:23:14 AM
Frances Tiafoe lost (was a break up in the deciding set twice!).

However, it was a value bet, Pinnacle closing odds were 2.33:

To follow today, I am curious to watch Alex De Minaur versus Reilly Opelka, the two players are polar opposites. Reilly Opelka will try to go to the net the most often he can, but the Aussie is a fantastic defender and still a firm favorite (odds: 1.38). I was a little disappointed with him though last week, thought he could be good enough to counter an old version of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He has great defense no doubt but needs to get more weapons. I am still convinced he will win at least an ATP title this season.
16  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 08, 2019, 01:53:56 AM
It was utterly stupid pick (harrison to win against nishioka)... ok the match is finished now and we can see it was routine 1h12min win for Japanese player. You guys didn't do a homework, you need full study before the event.
Cannot deny it was a bad bet. Unfortunately I tend to lose objectivity when Ryan Harrison is in the draw, because I am a fan of him.

I started rooting for Ryan back in 2009 during his close match at the US Open, lost to Sergyi Stakhovsky. It is funny because he lost the match, and since then he keeps losing. Of course not all the time, but he loses a lot of them. Yesterday I won $500 on a parlay where I included high odds (Joao Sousa included), so I thought I would bet $30 to support my guy. Of course it is not the right to bet, but we are humans. I just thought Ryan would put more effort into the match.

I got the autograph of Ryan Harrison when he played in Taipei (I think it was 2014 or 2015). He is a nice guy. In that tournament, he beat a local player very comfortably but then pulled out due to injury. The story of his career.
When I saw him live, his serve did not look that big but that's probably because Sam Groth was playing earlier on.

in Brisbane, even though Ryan lost, I noticed he went for his backhand more. I thought this shot could make the difference against the Patty Schnyder of the mens tour yesterday, but it was a poor day for him. I hope we will see more big wins from Ryan, just like he did in Acapulco a few years ago. He is still very young, I am confident he has a bright future ahead of him. He is an incredible player who can hit the ball with a lot of pace and precision.

For tomorrow, I captured some odds.
Here you go:

I really like his odds @ 2.53.

I am quoting this because Pinnacle odds are now 2.46. We will see if I can beat Pinnacle closing line.

Remember that beating Pinnacle closing line is key to long term success.

So I would like to hear everyones thoughts on the market and alts in 2019. Not just what, but why as well. It's been a year since the peak and fall, market has started leveling off as the weak hands have been cleared out, most of the scam projects are dead or dying, ICO are no longer a dime a dozen.  What do you see for crypto in 2019?!?

Hi. Tough to say.
In the short term I was recommending to buy some ETH for a possible profit in the next seven days. I am not backing ETH in the long term (personal opinion). In the middle and long term, I like Ripple a lot, and I also like Cardano.

I like Ripple because of a strong support in Japan by banks, this is quite reassuring when you invest into a project.

But I honestly think the whole market of Altcoins is not going strong in 2019, apart from the few coins I mentioned. My 2 cents.
20  Economy / Speculation / Re: How to enter a perfect trade and stop being a loser. on: January 07, 2019, 02:58:16 PM
You do not even have to understand charts to understand where bitcoin rallies and where bitcoin drops at this stage. We have seen bitcoin moving to same prices over and over again so many times that anyone that sells at 4200 will profit when the price goes down and anyone buying at 3600 will be profiting.

I did it twice already and made a decent profit back, 4200 was the top it can see and I realized it at third time price went down after reaching 4200, so I said next time I see 4200 I will sell, also when the price hits 3600 its harder to go back down and usually goes higher so I said I will buy next time it hits 3600. So last time it hit 4200 I sold all my coins and I rebought it at around 3740 (couldn't wait until 3600 Cheesy ) and now I am in profit, that was without bitcoin going up, with this new 4000+ I am in even bigger profit. Never looked at any charts neither, was just too obvious.
I can see where you are coming from, but believe me it is not easy. For instance in November we have seen a massive drop from circa $6K to $4.2k. At this stage, many would have thought it was time to buy. I did this mistake. It went back to almost $3k very quickly (if my memory is correct), now we struggle to get past $4.2k again.

Thanks Mikey for a solid thread, not many of these threads around here.
I personally go for -1 / +2 or -1 / +2.5 (I lack discipline once in a while Tongue) because I am more comfortable with this strategy and it works better for me.
