1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: letstalkbitcoin on committed tx, homomorphic value, fungibility, privacy on: January 26, 2014, 01:07:35 AM
What an enthralling discussion! I took notes as I listened. Andreas asking questions? You know its got to be informative.
Would love to see the content of this show written up as an article (not a transcript), with references. The information was tightly packed, and that's saying something for a longer show.

Most fascinating idea I picked out was the Bitcoin-Dev idea, whereby new features could be tested on a prototype track and bitcoin could be moved into it. Has any work been done on it since October? Loved the thought that all mindshare should be focused on Bitcoin.

Next most interesting: scripts disabled in Bitcoin.  And of course, fungibility needs anonymity.

So regarding scripts and Bitcoin-Dev, what is the current thinking regarding re-implementing all of the scripts in Bitcoin?
Is anyone considering it? If so, how would it be similar or different from what they are proposing in Ethereum?
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Contest to name the 0.0001 BTC unit (0.1 BTC prize!) on: January 04, 2014, 11:29:10 PM
1 BTC / 1,000 =  Millibit or Milly or Millies
1 BTC / 1,000,000 =  Microbit or Mikey or Mikeys

So, 0.0001 BTC = 0.1 millies or 100 mikeys

4  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: friendlier addresses? on: December 23, 2013, 09:50:46 AM
I suppose one could use http://brainwallet.org/#converter to translate this address (using Base58Check instead of text):

1GoZzZBqG59VyDVeNRAjjscPwRL4guovWG

into this (poetry):

meet happiness eager like hill beam abuse confidence goodbye awake scary dude diamond flicker law

and then back again on the other end.

At least it might be easier to read over the phone?

I was further thinking that someone could re-write the poetry engine so that the first word is a person's name, the second word is a verb, the third word is an adjective and the forth word is a noun. Then there would be four sentences to remember.
5  Other / Beginners & Help / Hello Bitcoin World! on: December 23, 2013, 03:35:31 AM
This is my first post. I'm usually more of the lurker type. Today I realized that just like bitcoin-qt processing the whole blockchain on startup before it can see recent transactions, I need to process the history of bitcoin before I can make a contribution. Glad I didn't wait any longer to get started!

I have experience in the fields of information security (I once wrote an end-to-end email encryption system for a company research and development project. I also helped set up some corporate PKIs.) and in investing (I did a podcast on investing). Those two paths intersect somewhat at bitcoin.  I also have an interest in personal freedom vs. state control. As evidence, last year I put together a book that compiled some of the most important Anti-Federalist papers translated into modern english. Amazing how prophetic George Mason and Patrick Henry were. This path too intersects somewhat with the others at bitcoin.

As a result of these paths crossing (and perhaps some others), I am drawn tightly into the bitcoin circle. I believe that bitcoin is no less than a miracle put here on earth to help good win its battle over evil. Therefore, I hope to contribute to the good fight.

My processing of the "blockchain" is not yet complete, but I am eager to get started with what I've processed so far. I have repurposed my podcast to focus on bitcoin instead of investing. I plan to attend some local meetups and start networking with real-life humans. Whatever I can do to help, I'll try to do it.

It took me a while to see the circle in which I find myself, even though I first acquired some bitcoins in 2012. Perhaps I was just waiting for proof that bitcoin would really succeed and take hold. Well, I'm convinced now.

I look forward to making a contribution where I can. See you soon.
