1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paper Wallet security versus Printer memory on: October 20, 2017, 07:29:43 AM
How about using a paper wallet with an encrypted private key?

Then it wouldn't matter if someone copied your paper wallet. Because you can't spend from it without the additional key.

bittaddress.org can make those.

From According to Do All Printers Have a Hard Drive? site mentioned:

"Security Considerations
When your business decommissions a leased or purchased output device, its hard drive can form a security risk because of the prospect of sensitive data remaining on disk...."

So we should all worry about this !
*
Re Paper wallet with an encrypted private key will look at this.

Re Tails Live CD...don't see how that can protect one from a printer's hard drive storing what you print....

Thanks for all the replies / help.
No, it's not about having a lot of BTC. Actually it's only to make a paper wallet for a non computer savvy friend who wants to buy a small amount to start and I want to put it in a paper wallet for extra security for him.
I will follow the advice about printing some garbage and clearing the spooler, but I thought that some modern printers actually had a sort of hard disk inside that stores many images of scans or prints, even if you clear the PC printing spooler ?
Of course, always using Linux for anything related to btc.
No time to purchase the HW wallet as he wants to buy soon. Will get one for myself though, thanks.
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Paper Wallet security versus Printer memory on: October 18, 2017, 01:25:22 PM
Hi,
If I print a paper wallet with one of the available offline applications to do so, since most printers nowadays have an internal memory, isn-t this a security risk if that same printer is again used in the same Pc ?
How does one erase a printes memory for good ?

I request you remove:
Trade for Altcoins now Cryptsy.com   from first post.
They stole our coins and run away years ago and are non-existent now.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should I convert my BCH to BTC? on: September 11, 2017, 05:35:06 PM
The more BTC you have, the more free money you may get when there's another fork (like maybe 1 October something called Bgold, if not 1 Nov Segwitx2). So if you want that chance (those forks are not happening for sure) you want to change bch for btc now.
7  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to claim BCH from an Electrum wallet without using ElectronCash on: September 06, 2017, 02:08:52 PM
I did as you said, checked all of the individual "Used" addresses from the Electrum wallet, including the Change used ones, in the block explorer, and voila ! Yes, I do have exactly the amount of BCHs that I was expecting.
This would indicate that your sweep into Coinomi failed... if the BCH is still sitting in the Electrum addresses, then they have not moved, so the sweeping transaction has not worked.

I also have Electron Cash desktop wallet installed in a virtual machine. Yesterday I created a wallet there using the Electron wallet's seed. No BCHs there...    Strangely the addreses that show in Electron Cash don't coincide with the unused addresses in Electrum (there is no option to see "used addresses in Electron Cash"....this is mind boggling....
If you imported your Electrum seed mnemonic into ElectronCash and got different addresses and no BCH balance... then the seed mnemonic you imported is NOT for that Electrum wallet. The two apps are pretty much identical (except for the BCH mods to ElectronCash), so any given mnemonic seed should generate the same addresses in Electrum or ElectronCash.

I'd suggest you double check in Electrum what your seed mnemonic is... also, try and import that seed mnemonic into a new Electrum wallet and see what addresses it generates.

Finally, swept each address key into Coinnomi and finally got my BCH, correct amount too !
I appreciate your help, I couldn't have done without it !
8  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to claim BCH from an Electrum wallet without using ElectronCash on: September 06, 2017, 12:58:14 PM

You need to recover from seed. Don' t install electroncash in the same computer as electron, i suggest to don' t use election cash at all.

Instead, follow this tutorial:

https://blog.btc.com/how-to-recover-your-trapped-bitcoin-cash-from-other-wallets-24b929543f26

I have some help thread opened for people having problem claiming their bcc, I'm becoming an expert, if you need feel free to PM me.

If you want to tip:

Btc:16Hy2dMNeqZwa4vcS7UBX1HJmHNFAvmxM2
Bch: 1G4f9axBLvDtNmdAjgULVsz5zhq7HU6pNB

But using an ONLINE wallet like that one...putting your private keys or seed there...kind of dangerous in general I'd say, even if they say at their site that it's "secure", don't you think ?
9  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to claim BCH from an Electrum wallet without using ElectronCash on: September 06, 2017, 12:55:05 PM
Thanks.
Not sending you by Pm any of the public keys because I have them in a different PC and don't want to have to copy them manually to then stick them here or transfer them to a USB stick to later read them in this other PC...

I did as you said, checked all of the individual "Used" addresses from the Electrum wallet, including the Change used ones, in the block explorer, and voila ! Yes, I do have exactly the amount of BCHs that I was expecting.

Still nothing showing in Coinomi. Kind of afraid to sweep in another private key for one of the Electrum addresses in case i get what happened yesterday...

I'm going to sweep a second private key from one of the Electrum address that contains BCH and will report shortly what happens.

In block explorer I put the ELECTRUM PUBLIC not private address right ?
11  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to claim BCH from an Electrum wallet without using ElectronCash on: September 06, 2017, 11:53:35 AM
"Sweeping" just creates a standard Bitcoin transaction, that moves coins from one private key to another. It is basically the same as creating a transaction in Electrum that sends the coins from Electrum Address to Coinomi Address... but you're creating the transaction within Coinomi and using the private key from Electrum to sign it.

From your message... you seem to have:

A. Created a wallet in Coinomi using the seed mnemonic from Mycelium. This wallet has BTC and BCH addresses setup.  <=== YES to THIS
B. Attempted to sweep BCH from an Electrum address/private key to one of the BCH addresses in your Coinomi wallet.  <=== YES to THIS

Did you get a transaction ID from Coinomi? Have you looked at the Electrum address on a BCH block explorer like blockchair or blockdozer to find the transaction and see what BCH address the BCH was sent to? and checked that that BCH address is actually in your Coinomi wallet?  <=== TO DO THIS, what do I need to introduce in the block explorer, the Electrum PUBLIC address of which I tried to sweep into Coinomi using the corresponding PRIVATE address?

Thanks for your help.
Yes, I did sweep of an Electrum adress private key in a Coinami BCH coin wallet.
Mind you, the Electrum adress doesn't have any BTC since I emptied the wallet compltely before proceeding to now tring to get my BCHs.
I think i read somewhere that in Coinomi I have to sweep each addess...BUT THAT I have to do it in Coinomi's Bitcoin coin wallet, not the BCH one. Could this be right?
But, if I do sweep, how could I do the corresponding transaction that happens when sweeping if there are no BTCs in that address?

No, I didn't write down the transaction ID; it just showed on the smartphone's screen for a moment and then no trace of it after that. Maybe it tried doing the transaction but there were no BCHs and thus it cancelled I don't know. But there should be BCHs in the address because I checked details inside Electrum for that address and there were BTCs inside it before 1 August...and emptied those BTCs well after 1 August.
12  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to claim BCH from an Electrum wallet without using ElectronCash on: September 06, 2017, 03:04:42 AM
You could import your private key in coinomi  (sweep them).

There is no problem of you use the latest version.

Hi, I have an existing Coinomi wallet which initially I created by using a SEED that I had from a Mycelium wallet. After that now I'm trying to use this same Coinomi wallet to obtain my BCH from a different wallet I have in Electrum. In Coinomi, which has btc and bch coins acivated, I did "sweep" of an Electrum address private key:
- I got to the part confirm and then it seemed to send something to an address....but I see nothing in Coinomi after that transaction that it does during the sweeping process. WTF? Where could that transaction, that probably sent all my BCH corresponding to that Electrum address, be?

A question that comes to mind is; if any address private key is somehow tied to the SEED or master private key of a specific wallet, can it be that I cannot do a sweep into an existing Coinomi wallet of that address private key because the Coinomi wallet I created using a seed from MYcelium, which is completely different from the Electrum wallet I'm trying to sweep from ? I mean, would it be necessary for me to create a completely new Coinomi wallet? (in which case I'd expect to see these lost BCH from the confirm transaction there?)
13  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash From Mycelium Wallet on: September 04, 2017, 06:54:50 PM
Hi I am trying to recover BCC from Mycelium using Electron Cash in a PC (don't want another smartphone application like Coinomi).
The thing is, I introduced the Mycelium SEED into Electron Cash but balances showing in BCH not correct. Some in another thread says I have to SWEEP my Mycelium private key in Electron Cash.

I have the 12 word seed from mycelium but no idea how to get the private key to be able to do sweep with electron cash. Anyone knows how to get the private key (not the 12 word seed) from a Mycelium Wallet?

I request you to not to make simple things complicated and install Coinomi. If you come across any problem let me know.

Thanks, yes, using Coinomi now and had no problem.
The thing is I have another electrum wallet and would also like to import it to Coinomi using its seed. But can Coinomi have two seeds? I know it can have one or more wallets of each cryptocurrency, but wondering if any way that doesn't entail the "sweep" process I could get the second electrum wallet imported?
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to get Bitcoin Cash from many wallet/software/services with Coinomi on: September 04, 2017, 03:41:27 PM
RE: Import electrum SEED into Coinomi

You explained:
- Electrum
1) Open the menu "View" and click on "Show Addresses"
2) Then open the new tab "Addresses"
3) Ritgh click on the addresses that had Bitcoin before the fork, then click "Private key".
4) Click on the qrcode icon to show it.
4) Cliccare sull'icona del qrcode per mostrarlo
5) Sweep them with Coinomi

Two things why I'd prefer to just import the seed:
- Have only one smartphone; cannot show the Electrum qrcodes from addresses' private keys and capture the qrcode with coinomi at the same time.
- In anycase capturing qrcodes with Coinami giving me error; have not been able to do so when trying to send.

I already imported one SEED from Mycelium into Coinami successfully. But now I'd like to import a different seed , the one from Electrum. The thing is, is it possible to import a second masterseed into Coinomi?
15  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Verifying Private Key Backup on: September 04, 2017, 12:17:46 PM
Thanks for the help. Meantime I've decided to use Coinomi instead of Electron Cash. Just inputted seed from Mycelium and got the right balance no problem. Coinomi looks very good, supports many different cryptos and can have more than one account for each of them.

Thanks for all the help. I've decided to work with Coinomi instead of E.Cash, and it worked no problem ! Only had to introduce seed from Myc and got the correct balance BCH
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Step by Step How to Claim Your Bitcoin Cash Balance and Exchange into Bitcoins on: September 02, 2017, 03:54:56 PM

This is what I mean by "not verified". I tried using different connection servers in Electron Cash; it even says "connected to 10 nodes" but nothing. And balance, again, not correct ?
18  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Verifying Private Key Backup on: September 02, 2017, 03:16:51 PM
Thanks for the help and replies. The reason I'm asking so much about this is that I did import the Mycelium seed into Electron Cash (after first emptying my Mycelium wallet of btc of course). But the balance that shows in Electron cash is less. All the inputs are correct but the outputs don't all coincide with what are in the Mycelium addresses. That's why I wanted to import the Mycelium key/ keys, as opposed to just the seed, into Electron Cash doing Sweep.
Another problem with Electron Cash is that all the entries in the transactions says "not verified"

Balances showing in Electron Cash will only show what you had in actual BTC at the time of the split, Aug 1 @ 14:00 UTC

Did you take a balances screenshot back then?

All transactions are the same as they were pre-Auugust 1. There's only one after August 1 which is the outgoing of all BTC a few days ago to a different/new wallet.
