Stopped using CMC myself. Ever since they introduced the "DATA" alliance thing, it gets worse - they essentially create a walled garden that only they and their so called "partner" exchanges get to represent themselves. Case in point: > CMC's Top 200 rank only considers coins listed on selected exchanges. > This creates incentives for coins to want to list themselves on those exchanges > CMC is part of the cartel creating a false, paid ecosystem > Coins that can't afford to pay listing to get on those will never get represented fairly I don't think many are aware of this, but take a look through their list and you'll understand what I mean. CMC is absolutely greedy and full of crap these days. Anyone who is willing to pay their way up can get to the front page. Shameful. Also, who's to say that all the "DATA Alliance" exchanges are good? ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) CoinGecko, Cryptocompare etc don't have such nonsense. I personally use CoinGecko all the way because they have really good clean UI, great support if you have questions. They do things fairer and are transparent (see their circulating supply breakdown for ERC-20 tokens). So much work goes into what they do and I think they deserve more recognition than CMC in every way.

A very commendable effort from coingecko, lots of fake trading volumes from shitty exchanges, I just keep wondering why some exchanges that I know have less solid project will be having high trading volume, I believe this will help combat fake exchange volumes
For sure! Their exchange page really looks good now. It's a much better representation and you see bad exchanges ranked all the way down despite having huge "trading volumes". Than Trust Score from CoinGecko differs from the same in CMC ?
Very different, just look at their exchange page. CMC has MXC? BKEX? (What nonsense exchanges are these) on top while CoinGecko has Binance, Coinbase (those that you expect to be on top). Furthermore, if you look into their coin page ( https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitcoin) you'll see that the top trading pairs are at least legit (i.e from Coinbase, kraken, binance). CMC one on the other hand... very inaccurate and misleading. I no longer use CMC now, CoinGecko is more trustworthy with transparent info and better ranking. This is a better step. We have been expecting Coinmarketcap to do something about fakes volumes and fake exchanges, but till now, not even warning about frequently reported fake exchanges or the plan to delist them. The problem I have is that I defaultly search at CMC.
CMC doesn't seem to want to do anything against fake volume exchanges. Their exchange page, coin trading pairs list is ridiculous.

Definitely, but I won't tell them to put a lot of money in it.
Once they have a small amount, they'll probably be much more interested in learning what Bitcoin is, and also what it can do. Once they've learnt all that it's entirely up to them to decide if it's worth it to invest more.

Anyone has a good alternative for Coingecko? There are wayy too many ads and trackers for social media. All the ads are also pretty annoying and some of the ads on Coingecko are scams. I dont trust sites that promote scams. This site literally made me download an adblocker and even then some ads still show.. ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) Have been using CoinGecko for quite a while now, while they do have ads most of them are rather un-intrusive and it helps CoinGecko keep their services free for all of us to use. Did you know that they also have free API for everyone to use? I bet all that takes up quite a bit of money, but definitely enabled many development across the cryptosphere! I'm more than happy to support them by having a few ads pop up on my screen. Afterall, I only look at the prices for at most a minute and I don't click on the ads. Can't hurt ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Hi Would you be so kind, to update your section About Horizen (ZEN) ? It says "Horizen (ZEN) is a cryptocurrency or a form of digital asset." It should be something like this: "Horizen (formerly ZenCash) is an incentive-driven application platform with optional zk-SNARK based privacy features that aims to provide everyone with complete control of their digital footprint. Launched in May 2017 (no ICO and no pre-mine), the platform is said to enable real-life use cases beyond the ZEN currency, including the ability to privately chat with others, publish information and go anywhere on the web with complete privacy." https://www.horizen.global/what-is-horizen/Thanks! MedaR Hey! I think CoinGecko is currently using a "fixed" description for coins, they no longer show each coin's information individually. However, if it's updated for you it should show when people query for Horizen's info via API. For now regardless of what they update I think it'll look the same.

Sure, Bitcoin/Crypto is a threat to all government regulated fiat currencies (yuan included), but it's still a very long way from actually threatening their model.
Won't be surprised if China actually pulls the plug on the miners though, since it doesn't bring about any economic benefits for China themselves at all. And they're always striving to control capital outflow and Bitcoin is arguably one of the tools that hampers their efforts.
If environment is an issue, I am of the opinion that they probably have bigger problems that they can tackle and it can bring about better benefits for much less effort (factories?)

Discipline for sure. When investing you should always set a goal and stick with it. Don't think about how this can go up more, or stop going down. If you can devise a strategy and stick to it, you'll be better off than many people. It's harder to do because it involves completely removing hope and emotions. FOMO is a scary thing for sure! ![Cry](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cry.gif)

Looks like a pretty cool forum for NFT-related talks! Also, nice raffle that's going along with it ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) If I could win either of those.. it'll be more than 0.2 ETH for just a few simple actions

STO are definitely interesting, and is one of the ways this market can be invested in for entities subjected to heavy regulation. You can probably see it as an improvement over ICOs which have nearly no oversight. I've learnt quite a bit from CoinGecko's 2018 Cryptocurrency Report regarding STO - Slide 49. Link here for reference: https://www.slideshare.net/coingecko/coingecko-2018-full-year-cryptocurrency-report

While it indeed is a good opportunity to buy many coins right now, this post is... a pretty clever plug for this Nautilus something exchange ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

Having an extremely tough genesis block - fair mining or not? ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) Personally yes, since it prevents people from gaming the blockchain in the beginning and is generally pretty fair for everyone, despite only finding the first block few hours later.

I don't think there is a way to prevent dumping of coins once it has been listed on an exchange aside from being a good project itself. If it is good, then the project should have good prospects of being listed on major exchanges with good liquidity. Paired with good market demand the price should stabilize at initial value, if not more. I've just seen CoinGecko's 2018 report and they've got some great insights on 2018's ICOs - check out slide 29. https://www.slideshare.net/coingecko/coingecko-2018-full-year-cryptocurrency-reportA good project, even if listed will not dump. The same cannot be said for the rest.

Aside from that statement, is there a statement to how much money has been lost on Cryptopia? I have a little bit of funds on Cryptopia that I did not take out since long time ago. Should've taken them out when I could. Damn ![Cry](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cry.gif)

Vertcoin has been amazing so far.
1. Development - the development team has been doing a stellar job so far as volunteers and as people who are not taking pay from the projects in the form of developer's fees, premine or anything of that sort. Throughout the bear market they've been around, delivering even though they're not obliged to. Keeping my eyes peeled for more coming from the team for sure!
2. Price action wise I'll be honest - it's nothing great at all since it's not that popular and there isn't much going around for people to P&D it. But I truly admire the team for working not to pump the price, but to take this as a ground to further the technology and to experiment on stuffs.
3. Community - it's shrunken across the board, Discord gets quiet sometimes but generally still plenty of chatter. Just not as much as its heydays during the bullrun, but still lots of activity and many lovely people sticking around.

I'll probably add in to say that, if you try and do some work eg. translation, poster designing, taking up bounties for whatever social activities there are - you will be in to learn and earn at the same time! ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)
