I tried the Alpha version and still the same.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / NiceHash miner 2.0.2.1 not working on: April 11, 2018, 07:38:14 PM
I have tried to install Nicehash miner 2.0.2.1 and it just will not work.

It get stuck on starting excavator services.

I did what was suggested on the internet by disabling antivirus and also downloading the excavator from github, but the best I get is that Nicehash starts bench marking and then fails.

What is happening. If I download the a previous version (2.0.1.11) it works fine.

Any help would be great, as this it is very annoying and the newer version works with CryptonightV7

Thanks SpceGhst, that worked.

Added -mport 0 into both .bat files and ran them. I then had two instances of Claymore running and I could see connections on both the Pirl pool and on Nicehash.

And it seems to work without having to have two copies of Claymore in two separate directories too.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: WhatToMine profitabilty, should you mine based on this? on: March 24, 2018, 02:24:11 PM
I just tried Claymore in two different folders and starting each one to get two instances running.

Each one works fine on it's own, but after one is running, when I start the other I get an error:

server: bind failed with error 10048 (port for remote management is busy...

I think I'll stick with Nicehash for a bit until I learn a bit more Smiley
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: WhatToMine profitabilty, should you mine based on this? on: March 24, 2018, 02:04:13 PM
But I thought you could mine two different currencies in Claymore. I've read that you can set the -dpool -dwal and -dpwd for one account and then -epool -ewal and epwd for the other.

Thanks for the replies.

Can someone explain how I can get Claymore to mine Nicehash and Pirl at the same time.

I can get Claymore to mine Nicehash using this:

EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool stratum+tcp://daggerhashimoto.eu.nicehash.com:3353 -ewal 3FfNX1Bw9hhi3dnJZ9ucGvR1ERu57ysYv7.worker -epsw x -esm 3 -allpools 1 -estale 0

and I can get Claymore to mine Pirl using this:

EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool pirl.minerpool.net:8004 -ewal 0xAdeEefFCfDe4022Dc5C3E958d175BA18b823d3de -epsw x -ethi 8 -allpools 1 -esm 0 -allcoins 1

but I cannot seem to combine these into one .bat file. I've used -dwal and -dpsw etc. but I get a socket connection error.

Is it possible to actually do what I'm trying, and if so, can GPU0 and GPU1 mine for the Nicehash pool and GPU2 mine for the Pirl pool? Still learning this stuff and help is much appreciated. Smiley
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: WhatToMine profitabilty, should you mine based on this? on: March 24, 2018, 12:04:55 PM
So in the .bat file, I could use -di0 and then enter the rest of the stuff that is normally in there (mining pool, address etc.) and then and fter than I could put -di1 and enter a different mining pool and address?

Thanks for the reply. So, do all the big players with large farms select the currency to mine each day on various rigs and then cash out (or convert to bitCoin) on a daily basis, or do they hold all the coins they mine?

I know some people mine a specific coin and hold it as they have faith that it will boom, but I'm unsure what to do.

Obviously NiceHash is a simple platform to start on and BTC is and probably will be the strongest currency for a while, so BTC payout is fine with me, but I did have a look into mining Pirl. This was mostly out of interest and learning how different Wallets and Pools work. With NiceHash it is all done for you and I like to learn exactly what is going on. I setup and ran my rig for an hour mining Pirl just to see everything working (Claymore connecting to the Pool and the Pool connecting to my Wallet etc.) just to make sure I had my head around how it all works. I then switched back to NiceHash as I don't really know much about Pirl, or any of the crypto currencies really, so I didn't want to waste my time on it until I do some more research on other coins.

I find it hard trying to work out what is going on with the various coins and the trends as most coins jumped up in value dramatically at the end of 2017, so the trend is hard to read.

I supose I'll do a lot more reading on other coins.

Another quick question:

Can I run Claymore miner and have it mine for NiceHash on 1 card and Pirl on another? I understand that unless I am using NiceHash Miner that it will not auto switch algorithms, so I'd have to stick with one (DaggerHashimoto or Equihash), but am curious and think that I would have a safe bet if I was mining on NiceHash and a gamble mining Pirl rather than putting all my eggs in one basket.

Also, if I set Claymore to mine to my Nicehash wallet and use Equihash, what currency will it actually be mining, or does it actually matter what Nicehash is mining, as long as I get paid?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / WhatToMine profitabilty, should you mine based on this? on: March 23, 2018, 10:14:54 PM
Hi,

I'm new to mining and have currently been mining with NiceHash. I obviously get paid in BTC from there. I decided to have a look at mining other coins and went to WhatToMine.com

I entered my rig details and up pops a list of the most profitable coin to mine. What I don't really understand is the point in the profitability unless you are going to cash out every day. For example, you may go to WhatToMine everyday for a week and see that Pirl is most profitable. You could mine it for the week and think you are doing well, but on the next day, Pirl may be way down the list of 'most profitable' and the Pirl you have mined the past week has dropped in value. Therefore the profitability column seems pointless.

Before you all say "Prices of coins goes up and down and it's a gamble", I understand this, but any info on this subject would be much appreciated.

TaskSchedular is way over the top for what I need, so I downloaded the free version of System Scheduler by the company Splinterware. This is much more basic version of TaskSchedular and seems to working very well...

Here's a picture of my rig viewed remotely using TeamViewer with System Scheduler running. It will run automatically minimized on startup too.

After spending a while looking into downloading Microsoft Visual Studio and re-learning a lot of programming I think I may have a solution.

If you type...

"C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe" -Profile1

into the start menu in Windows, it will load Afterburner and apply profile 1

If Afterburner is already running, it will not try and load Afterburner again, it will apply profile 1 to the current open window of AfterBurner

So, my thoughts are to set up two profiles, one for cost effective mining (Profile 1) and then one for a more aggressive mining when my power is free (Profile 2).
I will then use Windows TaskSchedular to run Afterburner profiles at various times, a bit like a central heating controller. Say, at 8am, run Afterburner profile 2, then at 6pm, run Afterburner profile 1.

To get a bit more complicated and in case of a power outage during the day, I may setup Afterburner to always load Profile 1 on startup and have an hourly task in TaskSchedular to run Afterburner at the correct profile.

Anyway, I'm just tinkering as we speak and will report back.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / MSI Afterburner profile auto profile selection at certain times on: March 22, 2018, 07:41:56 PM
Hi,

I am running my GTX 1060 3Gb at 65% and getting about 270 H/s out of them. I played about with the power settings and did an Excel spreadsheet working out H/s per watt.

As I have a 4KW solar array on my roof, the power during the day is free (unless it is very very overcast) so I would like to know if there is a way to auto switch the current profile in Afterburner. I was thining about having a profile for best H/s per watt for when it is dark and have them running at higher power when the solar panels are producing.

I know that in MSI Afterburner you set hotkeys to automatically jump to and apply a profile, but are there any Windows apps that can send keystrokes to MSI Afterburner at specified times. I know this is possible as I used to do a lot of programming in Windows, but I moved over to Macs about 10 years ago and have lost most of my knowledge on Windows coding.

Anyone else done anything like this

Thanks people. I think I'll continue to mine with Nicehash for a month or two and do some research on other coins.  Smiley
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining low difficulty coins to hold instead of mining most profitable coins on: March 21, 2018, 08:59:53 PM
Hi,

I'm new to mining and am currently using NiceHash miner. NiceHash picks the most profitable coin to mine at the time and your GPUs run that algorithm. This is all well and good, but I've seen a couple of videos on youTube where people are picking the lowest difficulty coins to mine so they are getting lots of these coins on a daily basis. They are then holding them in the hope they rise in price and then either cash out or convert to BitCoin.

I quite like the idea of getting more involved in this idea and want to know if anyone has any experience doing this.

I would also like to know of any websites that list the difficulty of each coin and if there are any online multi coin wallets and multi coin pools. If I did venture down this route, I don't mind having to change the algorithm daily, but I don't like the idea of having wallets all over the place and being signed up to loads of different pools.

Any help and info on this would be gratefully received.

Got the parts to build a rig now, will build it this weekend with my 5 year old, a bit of a father and son project.

I ran the GPU-Z software and found out that my GPUs have Samsung memory which is nice, and the price of the cards have gone up dramatically in the last week. I have noticed that the profit per day seems to be slowly dropping, but I guess I'll keep running the rig and see what happens. At least the second hand PC tower I bought was only £65, which included motherboard, CPU, 4Gb RAM and a Gigabyte 800W PSU with built in monitoring via USB plug on the motherboard. So if it all goes belly up, I wouldn't have lost a fortune.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash miner and 2 GPUs not performing as expected on: March 18, 2018, 12:09:54 PM
I'm going to build a rig so the cards have more air around them.

I have also been playing around with custom fan curves on MSI Afterburner. I have both cards running at about 55deg C with the fans at about 60% while in the pc case, should be a lot better in an open air case. In the case there is only about 10mm of space between them, so that's why the top card is getting a little warmer than the bottom one.

Thanks for the help Smiley
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash miner and 2 GPUs not performing as expected on: March 17, 2018, 07:03:56 PM
SOLVED!!!

I swapped both cards over, re-installed drivers and then let NiceHash benchmark the cards again. Still the same. GPU2 only running up to 50%.

I solved the problem by pressing the 'link' icon that's between the power limit and the Temp limit. As soon as I applied this, both cards run up to the 70% limit.

The strange thing though, is that the temp limit stayed the same when I clicked the link. The settings are exactly the same, but now the cards are working as expected.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought that the power limit limits the power the card uses and the temperature limit would control the speed of the fan to keep the temperature under the limit. It seems as though when you get near the temperature limit, the power is limited to the card.

Notice that GPU2 is at 53%
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash miner and 2 GPUs not performing as expected on: March 17, 2018, 03:52:26 PM
So why is one card only getting to 50% usage.

If I set 80% power limit for the cards, GPU1 goes up to 80%, GPU2 stays at 50%. Is it Nicehash miner not trying to use the card or a problem with Afterburner?
