I don`t think you can make it to work whit a bare GPU in Mineral oil. You need a very good mixer and flow form the pump in front of the GPU chip and HBM also the VRM`s need`s cooling. It`s easier to just let the radiator attached to the GPU. You can remove the fans and save energy whit or without the radiator there is no gain or lose of electricity just space. But from the picture posted you have spare so put the radiator and you are good to go.
I`m doing my  immersion setup right now and it`s working very good. I`m not so happy whit the result but will upgrade my pump and see how it is for now I have 13 RX 570 immersed and the power from the wall is 1500W for 31Mh/s per GPU under Linux I thing that under windows they will do better will see .

From the picture, look like you strip the GPU. You need to put back the radiator. You strip the GPU only if you immerse it in 3M Novek fluid.
For mineral oil and other fluid except 3M Novek you put the hole GPU assembly (Without fans or whit them depends of your choice and cooling) and make a circulating cooling system for the mineral oil.
3M Novek is a different story altogether you can research it, but the setup cost are very high.

It`s not guaranteed to work but you can try and download the latest driver available on their website which is 431.36. If you browse their product they have listed an RTX 2080 8GB and have a newer driver for download in the video card support section. If they make. The driver for RTX 2080 also contain all the files and info for your GTX 1080. If they mod the driver in any way you should be good to go whit a newer version which is 431.36 is not the newest but it`s better than the one you are using.

Very interesting and nice idea. I love the blockchain and crypto technology, but the concept feels incomplete(I Know the computation it`s going for network security and transaction verification and so on....) but it seems that it should be also useful for some fundamental research. The alternatives (Primecoin, Curecoin and etc.) just did not get so popular.
From what I read about AI it have stages or types:
Type I AI: Reactive machines.
Type II AI: Limited memory.
Type III AI: Theory of mind.
Type IV AI: Self-awareness.
There is a lot of literature about every AI type or stage types.

So I have some questions for you even if I`m a complete novice(noob ) in AI field:
- Which type of AI you are planing to compute?
- Did you plan to integrate some evolution in your AI computation workloads like starting from stage I and progress up?

The project if successful it`s very future proof from my point of view.

I`m glad my solution worked for all of you.
I build rigs for my self and also for sale, so last week got a new order for 6 rig`s get all the components and start building it realizing the new RX500 series have driver issues and after two days start to wonder if i can modify the drivers by just replacing couple of files. I copied all off the driver just to check if the new ones accept the old DLL`s, CAB`s etc. files and it`s just happen to work  .
So just got lucky this time around.

I was able to get 6 x RX-500 series running on windows 10 x64. After two days the stupidest thing I tried worked  .
1. use DDU to clean the PC from any previous drivers.
2. Disable 4G decoding so you can log into windows (only  for Z170,H170, etc.)
3. Extract older driver for RX 400 series in Drive C: (I use 16.9.2 )
4. Extract driver for RX 500 series in Drive C: (I use 17.4.3)
5. Copy and replace all content from "C:\AMD\Non-WHQL-Win10-64Bit-Radeon-Software-Crimson-16.9.2-Sep21\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\B307117"  to "C:\AMD\WHQL-Win7-64Bit-Radeon-Software-Crimson-ReLive-17.4.3-Apr17\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF\B313057" (Basically you copy the old driver over the new)
6. Install the VGA cards manually from Device manager in Windows pointing path to the new driver 17.4.3 in this case.
7. Reboot and enable 4G Decoding in Bios
8. Enjoy if it works for you.

You can try with different driver versions if they work for you. I`m happy whit the 16.9.2 for the moment but any driver that works whit 6 and more RX 400 series GPUs should work  .

I know  that this solution sound stupid but it`s tested on 8 different rigs whit Asus Prime Z270-P and H270 Motherboards and works like a charm.
I`m pretty sure only handful of files need to be replaced but I don have the time to test more elegant solution.
