1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Scryptpools money trail on: January 18, 2014, 01:24:54 PM
Not sure if anyone has already attempted this but I signed up for a paid account at domaintools.com to run a whois history report on scryptpools.com. I figured it may have been possible that the whois protection was added on after registering the domain rather than at the same time.

I was able to find 5 historical changes to the whois records but unfortunately none of them contained any personal details, only DNS changes between CloudFlare and the registrar.

If there are any other domains that may be linked to this guy please provide the details and I can attempt to run a history report.

I have lost 130K+ to the pool and it is a lesson learned.

Here are a few tips that may help prevent large losses going forward:
  • Research potential pools and read any forum posts before joining
  • Set up automatic payouts (I set mine to payout after a few hours worth of work so I do not lose much)
  • Enable payout notification and watch for your email alerts
  • Check your wallet transaction history regularly to make sure payouts are occurring (In case a shady pool operator fakes the email confirmations)
  • If you have enough hashing power you can spread your miners among a few different pools in case one decides not to pay

Hope this helps!

If you haven't already, I would start here to get up to speed.

The links in that first post should be a good bit of reading and get you started in the right direction. As for the copyright question, I am not sure. From what I have read it looks like you may be able to make use of graphics that are made available to the public domain (or any free use license) without issues but do not take my word on that.

Check the following thread for discussion on the graphics and copyright/trademark issues https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=128254.0

Go into your profile and click on the link on the left side that says "Look and Layout Preferences". You will want to update the Time Offset value or you can click on "(auto detect)" and it should do it for you. Don't forget to click the change profile button to apply.
