1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Support for Bitcoinica on Android on: September 12, 2011, 11:17:55 AM
Allthough a newcomer on the market, -third place earns you serious respect. We welcome you to the bitcoin scene.

Thus, I've added support for push-based ticker notifications on the Android platform through the BTC Push Monitor app.

The app is totally free, as well as ad-free, and can be downloaded here: https://market.android.com/details?id=no.skjervold

For you guys who allready use the app, -no need to update the app through Android Market, all necessary changes were done on the server.

Cheers,
Eflite

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Push notifications from both MtGox and TradeHill on: August 09, 2011, 01:16:22 PM
Thanks man, glad you like my app.
Once your specified high or low value has been reached, it would require you to specify new levels anyways. But I'm planning to introduce a feature which doesn't require specifying values at all, but will notify you whenever the index moves whichever way within a time period, -think of it as a rally/crash notification.

cheers,
Eflite.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Push notifications from both MtGox and TradeHill on: July 06, 2011, 02:56:40 PM
Hi fellow Traders,
Since MtGox's troubles and all the Goxing going on, a lot of traders have moved to TradeHill. Thus, my Android app is now updated, and now lets your choose between pulling the ticker index off of MtGox or TradeHill.
Your choice.

You can update through Android Market. If you don't have the app, and want to sleep soundly at night not being afraid of missing the next rally (or crash..), you can download here: https://market.android.com/details?id=no.skjervold

Happy trading,
Eflite
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: >500 downloads, now you decide what feature comes next! (Android, Push, BTC) on: June 27, 2011, 11:15:42 PM
My buddy has one for the IPhone for review with apple right now, should be out within a week (allthough it's hard to predict anything with Apple's review process). It'll be free, with much the same functionality, based on IOs' Push framework.

I don't think anything is available for PC yet. One would need a desktop application keeping a tcp connection open, or possibly a web app using Websockets. However, I believe it's better suited for mobile devices, since you always carry them around in your pocket (you would obviously need to sit in front of your computer in order to be instantly notified...).
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / >500 downloads, now you decide what feature comes next! (Android, Push, BTC) on: June 27, 2011, 10:18:40 PM
Hi Bitcoin fellows,
you've now downloaded my app (BTC Push Monitor) more than 500 times, and I think you should decide what feature I'll implement next. I'm a regular at MtGox and TradeHill myself, and personally I've had a lot of use for the app, but I've identified a couple of nice-to-have features as well.

If you're not allready familiar with the app, the BTC Push Monitor lets you specify low and high ticker values, and you're notified instantly when the index moves and one of your levels are crossed. The application (and backend server) used Google's Cloud 2 Device Messaging framework, which uses true push functionality to notify Android devices, even when they're in "Deep sleep". The app never performs any polling, and don't drain your battery. The app is totally free, -I don't even have ads. You can find it in Android Market: https://market.android.com/details?id=no.skjervold

I welcome all suggestions for features! After you guys have suggested some, I'll create a poll, and I'll implement the feature with the most votes.

I've received emails from users wanting to be able to change notification sounds, and wanting to specify which exchange (TradeHill, MtGox etc) to follow. But I'm open for anything making the app better.

Thanks to everyone that gave me nice feedback through Android Market.
Happy trading everyone!

Cheers,
Eflite

Hi Zef,
thanks for feedback, I'll be looking into notification sound in future updates. Currently I'm working on adding a small index chart next to the index value, to visualize recent movement in the index. Hope you like it.
Cheers,
Eflite

nice ideas. I was thinking, in addition to the High/Low values, maybe one could specify percentwise movement within some time frame. E.g, -if the index moves more than 30 percent in one day, you'll be notified.
Glad you like the app.

There allready exists Android apps showing the current BTC index value on your device. However, these all currently rely on polling, which drains battery power and may show 30 minute old values. Therefore I created the BTC Push Monitor, which uses Google's push API called Cloud 2 Device Messaging (C2DM). This ensures the device is notified as soon as the BTC index reaches the level your specified, without the application having to run in the background. The app does not use the Android AlarmManager API, and never has to wake the phone from Deep Sleep in order to poll. No polling is ever performed.

The application requires Android 2.2 or higher.

The app is totally free, and can be downloaded from Android Market: https://market.android.com/details?id=no.skjervold

Regards,
Eflite
