Mine flucuates too but not that extreme, maybe its unstable power issue but then again internet connection issues can be tricky culprits. My wireless broadband router gets unstable if I try to use a combination of different devices like Ant U2 and a GPU. the Ant will usually win out and the GPU will produce next to nothing. Are they both using the same connection?

Yes, they both share the same Internet connection.

My biggest problem now is that although I *can* get good speed from the Antminer, it doesn't hold.  It'll run at 1.6Gh/s for a few hours and then drop down.  Then later randomly pick back up.  In the chart below, the blue line is a little USB Block Erupter staying steady, but the black line is my flakey Antminer.  (different computers)

What is the deal?  I'm really hoping this external powered USB hub helps this.

I have seen plenty of people use the miner software the way you ar ebut you are having some issues. Just as a way to eliminate the possibility its a system issue, consider trying a little different approach.
Unzip BFG Miner 3.10.0 to the C:\  drive. Not the Windows folder.
Place a shortcut to Command Prompt on your desktop.
  Open the Command Prompt and Change the directory with          cd\bfgminer-3.10.0-win32 or 64 {press enter}
   C:\bfgminer-3.10.0-win32>_
   now launch with                bfgminer -S antminer:all -o http://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -u XXXX_1 -p XXX {press enter}
I have seen that sometimes using "Windows" folder can cause a conflict, usually not, but sometimes.
Also go over your network cables and devices to make sure that you aren't having interference that is slowing something down, also check windows "system resources" for unexpected extra network activity in the graph.
An unclocked Antminer U2 default setting should return between 1.44 Gh/s - 1.7 Gh/s as reported by BTC Guild about 660 Valid Shares per hour. With a decent, clean, internet connection and when plugged directly to the computers onboard USB port.
Thanks.  I'll try checking the cables and windows resources.  I had already had bfgminer installed at the root level, but I'll try the rest too.

clock=x0981

Anything higher than x0681 (consistently) or x0781 (occasionally) produce slow to no results.  x0881 gave slow, x0981 gave no, x0A81 gave no.  That's why some people think this is a power issue and why I'm trying the powered hub option.  We'll see.  If it still doesn't work, I guess it is back to the drawing board.

I just ordered one of the recommended three (Rosewill 10-Port RHB-500) and will see how it does on Monday.  Seems silly to need an external hub for a single usb miner, but I guess that makes sense if it can supply higher consistent voltage than the on-board USB ports.  Heck, if this works, I may just buy another Antminer or two for the fun of it.
6  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer u1: BFGminer: How to set up to mine Bitcoin on: March 12, 2014, 06:27:05 PM
Here is my updated string:
Code:
bfgminer.exe -S amu:all --set-device antminer:clock=x0781 --no-submit-stale -o stratum+tcp://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -O xxxx_2

Once launched, I manually changed the S to 30, E to 60 and Q to 15 like your example.  For some reason, it rejected those settings from the command line.

Now, I'm getting around 1.5Gh/s, but I still can't get higher.  If I change from 0781 to 0881, 0981, or 0A81, my Gh/s rate in the third column drops to 0.  Obviously 1.5Gh/s is much better than I was getting, so I'm happier, but I'd love to figure out why I'm still not getting 2.0Gh/s like the U2 is supposed to be capable of.

Also, I noticed in your screenshot that the A: value is always 0 or 1, but mine is A: 34 at the time of this screenshot and climbing every few seconds.  What does this value mean?

Finally, you asked about my USB connections.  Right now, I'm not using any hubs, splitter, cables, etc.  I'm plugging directly into an on-board USB port.

7  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BFG and Antminer U2 on: March 11, 2014, 09:38:25 PM
If this doesn't help, try lowering speed with clock=x0681 just to check do you have weak USB power supply.

If the x0681 option works now, you said this will indicate if I have a weak USB power supply?  I'm plugging this device directly into the on-board USB ports.  What do you recommend instead?

I'm really having some trouble understanding what's going on here.  I've been running a single USB Block Erupter with BFGminer for several weeks and have seen ICA 0: with 337/332/355Mh/s.  I just upgraded to an AntMiner U2 and used this guide to configure it, and it seems to be running ok around 2Gh/s, but the third number is always much lower and my pool reports much much lower speeds than even with my USB Block Erupter.

What am I doing wrong with the AntMiner to get slower speeds?  And what do those three sets of Gh/s values actually mean?

Block Erupter
bfgminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -O xxxx_1 -S all --icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing 3.0=100

AntMiner U2
bfgminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -O xxxx_2 -S antminer:all --set-device antminer:clock=x0881

It's this?
http://www.reddit.com/r/letstalkbitcoin/comments/1sjrh5/gersicscom_tested_mining_hardware_with_warranty/

It's still without downvotes, weird
Do they use fake accounts to compensate bad votes?

Yes, that's the post and my initial response.  At the time, I wasn't gonna totally call them a scam, but now I'm ready.  They are indeed a scam.
11  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: GerSiCs.com SCAM DO NOT USE THEM on: January 13, 2014, 08:18:14 PM
Sadly, I am here to verify that they are indeed a scam operation.  Yes, I know, I should have done my research first, but it is what it is now.  Smiley

After I saw a post they made on Reddit (without any down votes at the time ironically), I ordered a Red Fury from Gersics.com and paid my .2 BTC using the payment address they provided at checkout. Unfortunately, that was the last time I heard from Gersics.com. I emailed them trying to get some sort of order confirmation, and have received no reply and have not received the ASIC.

There is nothing I can do about being scammed, but I wanted to share my experience with them so far before anyone else orders from them. IF and when I receive my ASIC and/or a response to my email inquiries, I'll issue a full and public retraction of this comment.

Here's hoping they do the right thing! Smiley /u/Gersics, please feel free to respond to this post publicly or PM me privately here or on Reddit.

12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to create a vanity address? on: January 08, 2014, 09:16:08 PM

In theory, the odds of someone else being able to generate the same public key are incredibly low -- virtually impossible. The difficulty of doing that is the basis of the security of bitcoin.

That's the hope, but what's the guarantee?  Anything?
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to create a vanity address? on: January 08, 2014, 08:34:35 PM
Let's assume that I use this program to generate a vanity URL using the pattern 1Bill.  What's to stop someone else from using the same program using the pattern 1Bill and ending up with the same private key that I got?  How do I know that the private key the application generated for me is unique, safe, and not also going to be generated for someone else using the same pattern?
14  Other / Beginners & Help / How to create a vanity address? on: January 07, 2014, 04:50:38 PM
I've seen several people mention them in passing, but how does one go about safely creating a vanity address (ideally without using a 3rd party)?

holy shit, thanks for the tip with middlecoin, definitely gonna try that out! Cheesy looks great

You are welcome.  I hope you have better luck than I've had in the last couple of weeks.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What coins are you mining? on: January 06, 2014, 08:58:44 PM
I've been using middlecoin.com, so I have no idea which coins I'm actually mining other than they are scrypt coins.  It mines whatever is listed as the most profitable coins, then converts them to BTC, and pays out in BTC only.  It has worked great except for the last few weeks has dramatically slowed down.  In fact, I don't think I've had a payout from them for about 6 days.  Usually I get one every day or two, sometimes three or four.

17  Other / Beginners & Help / My Intro on: January 06, 2014, 08:27:00 PM
I've been a lurker for quite some time - mainly just using the boards to search for answers to questions I have while learning about Bitcoin.  I've decided to go ahead an open an account now because I believe I've been ripped off by an ASIC reseller and I want to document this fact publicly in the appropriate forums.  In order to satisfy my "newbie" posting obligations, I thought I would introduce myself here first.

I started reading about and playing with Bitcoin (yes, I said playing with) since about March 2013.  I mainly found most of my info about Bitcoins either here, or on Reddit (often as links to posts here).  Since I'm a moderately active redditor, and I learned so much about BitCoin from them, I posted a 1BTC milestone post a few months back. That post somewhat serves as a good intro to my experience with BitCoin, so I'm posting it here too.  I hope this isn't bad form, but it pretty much sums up my BitCoin experience of earning and spending 1BTC and serves as a pretty decent intro for myself.

Thanks largely to the information and discussions here on /r/bitcoin and related r's, I've completed a personal goal of acquiring and spending 1 BTC without using any fiat currency!

I know this isn't a lot of value, but over the last few months learning about and experimenting with Bitcoin, I've:
•set up an online wallet and desktop wallet,
•joined a mining pool,
•mined Bitcoins (CPU and GPU),
•printed and used paper wallets,
•hidden paper wallets in a geocache,
•sold an item on /r/bitmarket,
•transferred BTC between wallets,
•invested in a Havelock ASIC fund,
•mined and traded LTC for BTC on an exchange,
•tipped and have been tipped,
•donated directly to EFF,
•bought games and e-books for cheap via Humble Bundle,
•and today reached a milestone of acquiring over 1 BTC.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, I spent my entire remaining balance of just over 1 BTC on silver bullion from Amagi Metals!

TL;DR I learned a lot about Bitcoin on /r/bitcoin. Thanks!
