1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AMD update kills Hash rate on: January 10, 2012, 09:37:32 PM
Just ran the AMD update.  Have 3 5850's running clocked at 900/300 1088volts and have been getting 325Mh consistently.  Now....all 3 cards are running under 250Mh.

WTF?

No need to roll back the whole driver. Run the uninstaller for Opencl only, then extract your old driver and install just the old file.

Only downside  (of it is one) is that further uninstalls and updates may fail to remove the old cl SDK unless you keep the original installation file.

Was 11.12 the introduction of 2.6? So, I would just need to extra the SDK from the 11.11 drivers?

3  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Newer variant of Catalyst (8.892)11.9 out(might fix 100 % CPU bug). on: October 04, 2011, 02:29:42 AM
11.9 final installed on two systems (Win7 x86 w/ 5750, Win7 x64 w/ 5830). 100% bug is gone on both.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin version 0.4 released on: September 25, 2011, 06:57:44 AM
There has only been one reliable release from Microsoft since 2000.

Seriously - if you pretend that everything between Windows 2000 and Windows 7 never happened, then Microsoft actually look like a badass company with solid products.

What the hell does this crap mean? XP (SP2+) had better security (and compatibility) than Windows 2000, and Windows Vista's security was light-years ahead of 2000 or XP.

WHY would you post a screenshot of your ENTIRE desktop?
6  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Catalyst 11.9 out-might fix 100 % CPU bug. on: September 16, 2011, 06:43:38 PM
Don't let the hate get to you.  I'm not sure what the wattage is on a 5750, but on a 5770 it's about 2:1 mh/j.  They're small but stout.

I'm not good with numbers, but if it's doing 150 to 175 Mhash/s at ~100 watts, that's 1.5 to 1.75 Mh/J, right?

The 5750 was $100 at a local store, and there was a $25 mail-in manufacturer's rebate (HIS brand). A new 5750 was purchased and taken right back: the store kindly applied the rebate price to it plus knocked more off for being "used", so I got to purchase it for extra cheap.
I used it to upgrade an old system that had an 8600 GT (6 Mhash/s).
7  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Catalyst 11.9 out-might fix 100 % CPU bug. on: September 15, 2011, 11:01:31 PM
haha 5750 is garbage move on

Really? $55 for a card that gets 175 Mhash/sec seemed pretty nice to me. It turned an old box of mine into a nice miner for cheap.

8  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Look... all these GPU miners waste 100% CPU time for nothing... WHY?! on: September 13, 2011, 08:12:36 PM
The first time I experienced the 100% CPU bug was with an NVidia card (GeForce GT 330M). When I started mining I tried that and other NVidia cards (including a 9800 GX2 and 8800 GT).
Things were mostly fine when I switched to ATI cards. Two 5830s and a 5750. Catalyst 11.6 drivers, 0% CPU.

When I finally upgraded to Catalyst 11.8, then every single system hit 100% CPU. Setting the priority to "Below Normal" prevents it from slowing things down, but my CPUs still generates heat when at 100% load, 24/7.

I use GUIMiner, and it doesn't recognize my ATI cards when I use older drivers and SDK.

I just got the weird idle notification ~30 minutes ago (3 PM Central Time).
It tells me all my miners have been idle for ~540 minutes. It's been sending out notices of all my miners being idle for ~540 minutes all day now.

I visited this thread to see if it is a common issue. I guess I'm not alone.

10  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Phoenix 1.5 sucking up massive CPU % on: July 16, 2011, 07:26:59 AM
Phoenix kept doing this for me, randomly. Something nothing, sometimes it would eat 100% CPU. Stopping & starting over and over sometimes fixes it.

Then again, poclbm never does this. I've been using that instead of Phoenix.
11  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can I mine with Apple 5870 on Windows PC? on: July 12, 2011, 09:51:01 PM
Well, I would say it requires a BIOS-supporting flash. I've flashed a lot of Mac/EFI firmwares onto older cards (Radeon 9700 Pro, GeForce 6, etc).

But what someone mentioned in another link about newer Mac hardware also supporting BIOS due to Boot Camp compatibility is interesting. Obviously it supports something BIOS-related as Windows boots up just fine on Macs, but it still may be a special, proprietary BIOS-ROM that doesn't work on "real" PC/BIOS systems.

Then again, through the magic of Hackintosh, x86 Mac OS X can obviously boot and run on a BIOS-only video card.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 0.01 transaction fee required for 0.38 BT transactoin? on: July 12, 2011, 08:58:13 PM
I tried to send 0.0000001 to someone and was prompted with the 0.01 fee notice.

I waited a while (a day?), and was able to send the 0.0000001 later without paying a fee. I figured the fee was to keep transactions down.

14  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5830 mem clock on: July 05, 2011, 10:05:03 PM
Yeah, the Sapphire 5830s have been nice.

$110 shipped.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102878

I usually have them running cool at 966/300, stock voltage (~310 Mhash/s). If I bump the voltage a bit, they do 1050/300, but they start to get really warm unless I kick the fan way up (and anything over 50% is loud). That's good for almost 330 Mhash/s under Windows 7, though!
15  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Newegg 5830 on: July 05, 2011, 10:01:04 PM
It's a little confusing, but BOTH the Sapphire 5830 cards are the Xtreme versions.

The $109.99 card comes in a box labeled "Xtreme", and easily clocks to 1000 MHz with the TriXX utility. Me and a friend ordered these, and are loving them (we get up to 330 Mhash/s, stable).

The $129.99 (+ $7.56 shipping) card also comes in a box labeled "Xtreme".

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102946

The only differences I know of is that the $129 card has a full-sized DisplayPort connector, while the $109 card has the Mini-DisplayPort adapter (like a Mac).

Honestly, the $109.99 card seems like the better deal. It is $27 cheaper than the other one, and has a more-common Mini-DisplayPort port. I already have adapters for that since I work with a bunch of Macs.
I haven't seen anything other than the DisplayPort size on the $129 card that makes it any better.

It may be back. I was able to login again.

BRILLIANT how there is no contact information unless you login first.
17  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help me find out why my machine stopped mining during the night on: July 01, 2011, 04:49:45 PM
I have a horrifically-bad Internet provider, and during any one of the (many) daily reboots of my modem (due to communication errors), one of my miners will usually stop when disconnected.

So a "less than perfect" network connection can cause a miner to quit.
18  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Best Miner + Settings for 5830 on: July 01, 2011, 06:54:21 AM
Do not force your GPU fans to spin at 100% or they will die in a monyh or 2 of 24\7.

Why would  you make such a claim as that?

Why would you think that?

I was wondering what happened to the site. I came to this thread looking for info - apparently a lot has been going on!

Thanks for the updates.

20  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help GUIMiner Not finding Cards on: June 29, 2011, 12:32:28 AM
GUIMiner doesn't work with older versions of the OpenCL drivers. I was having the same issue (Catalyst 10.11 + SDK 2.1 with my 5830).

I uninstalled all the ATI software, and installed just Catalyst 11.6 (which includes OpenCL drivers). Then GUIMiner works.

The 10.10/11+SDK 2.1 method is for the command-line miners (like Diablo) only, not for GUIMiner.
