i bought 3 of these off your ebay, magicgrow...etc etc. i can't seem to get them to work, tried all 3. i plugged in molex, molex is attached to hard drive and psu. gpu isn't recognized in device manager. if i directly hook up gpu to mobo, it works. when i attach to your cable/card, gpu isn't recognized. help!

corsair 1200ax
12gb ddr3
amd fx 4400
2 @ xfx r9 270x
1@ xfx r9 290
asrock extreme 4 970 mobo

Are you sure you are plugging the little card in correctly, the notch should hang over the end of the pcie socket. Bad things happen if you turn it the other way. Have you tried them one at a time? Do you use dummy plugs? I'm sorry, I don't really mine in windows, so these are the only issues I can think of. Switch to xubuntu or BAMT, nice and easy!

RickJamesBTC, do the little boards have the shorted pin for the sensing of PCIe card? If not, that may be his issue as well. He may then need to manually add a jumper wire for that. Just a suggestion.

Coming back with more pics...

I am so glad you talked me into getting the 100cm ones that you had in stock a few weeks ago.  As I am waiting for my materials to arrive to build my framing, I wanted something up and going now.  So, I yanked an old 730x from the close, removed the old Nvidia GPUs and slapped in 5 PCIe USB riser cables from RickJamesBTC that I bought here, laid the GPUs on the floor, hooked up one of the 1350 single-rail GPUs laying around (causeh the factory 1000W Dell PSU only has 18A 12V rails that flip too easily for mining).

And...

Freakin awesome!

For the record, that motherboard is the factory motherboard from an Dell XPS 730x X58 H2C gaming machine.  It uses off-the-shelf ATX components.  We have a very large dedicate community dedicated to this special chassis.  I even setup a wiki for it a while back: http://730x.org  I'm kind of the expert on them (writing USB drivers for the old Nvidia ESA stuff, that this chassis has built in).

Anyhoot, that motherboard is an MSI motherboard that was made specifically for Dell.  It has 3x x16 slots, and 2x x1 slots.  You can find them on ebay for like $50 to $75.  "Dell 730x motherboard"  Make sure they are not "Dell 730" <- that "X" in the 730X means X58 INtel chipset.  A "non-X" means NForce LGA775 socket!

A virgin copy of LTCRabbit freshed minted onto an USB, booted, and BAM - all 5 GPUs mining away (no tweaks yet).

What's that R7 200 Series that you are running there? What exact model is that?

Quick question regarding cgminer. I reinstalled BAMT today on my USB and let the default settings run which gave me a +20khash/s boost per card. However, I did notice over the day today that I get like 10% rejection ratio, which with my old settings and lower hash I was much lower on rejects. Not sure if that is something with todays mining in general or just me. Couple things I was wondering about however.

Do you guys use expiry in your configuration and if so, what value? I know the default is 120, while mine is set to 30. How about the other ones like
scan-time
retry-pause
queue
sharethreads ?

Thanks!

Pita : It means that do not solo mine on that address, because they can't confirm generated coins.
Ah, that makes sense! Thanks!

Yeah, lately the payouts are kinda shitty. I will try my luck on some other pools. I really like middlecoin however since it already auto pays in BTC. But some are talking about cryptsy and auto exchanges.

Cryptsy does have a comment on their address as "Do NOT mine directly directly to your Cryptsy deposit address." Is that comment means more as do not auto deposit ever so many minutes?! or what is that comment really meaning?

I wasn't being an ass, you asked a question about a totally different product. These don't connect the power lines. Power is supplied by the molex, I have tested amp draw on all the lines. There is no "current backflow". This is NOT a ribbon cable, but a usb cable. These are designed for this purpose.

If you say so bud. Confirmation that none of the 12v lines were connected back to the motherboard would have been sufficient. I'm aware they are different products, that's exactly why I had to ask the question.

You didn't ask, you said you had seen tons of motherboards fried with these risers. That's not true.

Yes, it appears I slipped in an errant "these" in my original question that did however reference ribbons. I've edited it for clarity, as I was speaking about risers in general, so sorry for the confusion. USB carries power obviously, so it's impossible to know if the 12v line is connected back without actually asking the question.
Standard USB signal cables carries power. This question was asked couple pages earlier if these were a PCIe to USB signal and back conversion, which it is not. The USB cables are just physical wires that continue the flow of PCIe signal between the two boards with no USB conversion. Hope that answers the question.

Thank you, I must have overlooked that when I read through the first time. That's what I was looking for.

And also for those that are curious about these boards. The lines the USB cable carriers would be the 2 differential serial data pairs, total 4 wires from pins 14 & 15 on B side of edge connector and pins 16 & 17 from A side of edge connector, for the TX and RX signals. If you are curious about any of the ICs on the x16 boards, since the ribbon cable style extenders have all pins (with exception of 12 V and/or ground for the separated versions) connected, these will automatically provide all JTAG and 3.3V lines. Since this USB style one does not have these lines, the  black IC on the board is the 3.3 V voltage regulator which receives its power form the external 4 pin molex connector, which has a 12V and a 5V line on it along with 2 ground/return lines. The capacitors are used for any noise cancellation/stabilization of the power lines. And since the JTAG is not used for our needs, we can just scrap them...

WOW check this out, MR.Akram replies on reddit and kills it.. I have all my faith in this company

http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoinmining/comments/1uveun/alpha_technologys_scam_team_akram_akram_akram_and/

Below is a copy and paste from the reddit

Quote
Hi
I am Mohammed Jafar Akram the Finance Director of Alpha Technology and I have joined this site to just to clarify a couple of issues and concerns regarding an Individual who has posted on this site who visited M Akram & Co today (this message is intended for this individual):
1) your comment regarding "change in business function from Accountant to bit coin mining"
What the hell are you talking about? There is no change in business function. M Akram and Co and Alpha Technology are two seperate businesses.
M Akram and Co is headed by an accountant and Alpha Technology by an Engineer. (Two separate people).
2) with reference to your comment "You spoke to a couple of residents on the street who said the accountants seems to open and close and change name at will"
Our accountancy firm "M Akram & Co" has been established and open since 1986, during this period it has never changed names and has never closed for business since 1986. It has always been solely owned by my father and nobody else. You are free to check this up from official government records.
We have over 100 clients which include a wide range of businesses ranging from solicitors, medical practices, takeaways, online retail stores, warehouses, and taxi drivers (to name a few). As far as I am aware our clients are extremely happy with us and 90% of our client base is as a result of word of mouth referrals from satisfied clients.
3) These individuals commenting that they "have little Trust in the business"
Have these people you spoke to ever been clients or done business with us or do they even know us? I'm guessing not.
We are qualified accountants. My father is a Financial Accountant (Registered with IFA) and a Certified Public Accountant (Registered with CPA UK), and I am a qualified Chartered Certified Accountant (Registered with the ACCA). You can again verify this information via official channels.
I don't know if you know anything about these bodies but they are highly reputable professional accountancy bodies. We are also registered and supervised by the IFA for Money Laundering Regulations. We are also required to oblige with strict Professional Codes of Conduct by these bodies.
We have clean records and have never been subject to any type of criminal investigation in our lives (my dad is 65 years old and ZERO criminal convictions) and I can assure you we will not in the future either. The work you go through and the respect and reputation you gain from being part of such prestigious bodies such as ACCA is not worth ruining for any kind of money even it be a billion pounds.
4) I have recently took on the role of Finance Director in Alpha Technology.
I am not part of the operations team, I am only an accountant and will be in charge of handling FINANCIAL duties and do not have enough knowledge of the operations and engineering aspects of this project to comment with certainty on these things. However, I did do enough due diligence before taking the role of Finance Director and would NOT have taken this role if this was a scam.
The reason I did not and cannot give any phone numbers or email addresses is because I can not give private information on the telephone numbers of Alpha Technology staff, due to one of the professional Codes of Conduct us accountants have to abide by called Confidentiality.
5) You mention the area we are located "Rusholme" being a criminal area. The road we are located on has many other professional practices such as many accountants, solicitors, a large dental practice, letting agents etc. I did not know this was a criminal hot spot?
Please check things up properly via official channels and do your due diligence before character assassination attempts after a 2 minute chat.
If you want to ask about technical details or batch 2 orders or anything Alpha Technology related you will have to communicate with the operations team and not me (whom as I said should be open next week at 66 Dickenson Road).
I am sorry if I've sounded rude in this message. I have always worked hard and with integrity, and I was just shocked at some of the assumptions you made about us.
Anyway, I hope you have a good day and I hope in a couple of months time when Alpha Technology ships batch one to customers and we have satisfied customers and positive comments that you order from batch two Smiley
I will not be visiting or commenting on this site again, my intention was only to make the misinformed public after this character assassination attempt aware of the reality of the situation.

weird, according to this public documentation, "M. Akram & Co" used to be "MAC Accounting Solutions Limited" and was changed back in 2013. So how about that NEVER changed names?

Full header, hide your own IP. I've been rolling dice all day. Should I order or not? or do I split between these two companies? or do I order everything from the other guy? Jasinlee, if you name your 8 chip version after me, I'm definitely buying from you. Smiley I'd prefer it to be engraved on the PCB, but a sticker on the case is fine.

spend your fiat currency on either physically buying more BTC and hold until or past when the prices will increment to over $2k, or buy some more GPUs and mine in the meantime scrypt while everyone is waiting till September for the ASICs to arrive. This way you will have already made some profit ahead of time and can always sell your GPUs and hence still get ROI. And if Alpha truly comes through, I am sure they will be preparing for batch 2 or 3 or even newer and faster models.
11  Other / Archival / Re: [WTS] USB Style PCI-E 1x - 16x Powered Riser Cables !! $17 Each on: January 10, 2014, 12:13:02 AM
whats the advantage of these besides the extra length?
Im planning on trying to run 5 290's per board and have been reading about problems trying to get windows to see all the cards and people having to short certain pins in the risers to get it to work. Do these take care of all those issues? Do these cables meet the industry standard for load tolerance and insulation etc.. all it takes is one bad cable for the whole operation to go up in smoke?

side question to anyone: could you recommend a 1350w psu gold with 4 pcie 6 pin and 4 pcie 8 pin connectors? ( will a 1350w be enough for 4 R9 290's (non x) Tri X (sapphire) cards (and nothing else)? I was told they take ~275w each- have I enough headroom?

You don't actually do anything to the riser itself, the pin shortening process is with the pci slot on the motherboard with a cat5 or 6 cable. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36061.0 for more info on this.. As for the psu you might be better off splitting the load between two seperate PSUs and use an adapter from http://www.add2psu.com it's probably just the same cost if not cheaper this way and its less stress on the PSU.

You don't even need that adapter. You just need to jumper pins 16 and 17 on the second ATX connector so that the PS_ON is truned on. To keep from being on constantly, you can put a manual cheap switch on it from radio shack or whatever else or a physical jumper (piece of wire) you can remove by hand. All it is is a ground pin.

You're onto it mate, this is just for people that don't want to be messing about with wiring themselves but yes you're right that's all this adapter does.

or if you want to mimic that $19.99 piece of hardware, get a cheap relay that switches it and wire in between. Then you do not have to manually control on and off. Same thing, but with savings of around $18 Smiley

Is there a short cut to find my miner in the list?

Like a way to show wallet from smaller to bigger, 1a to 1z?

Use this maybe:

http://www.bfpcoin.com/middle-coin-web.php?w=ENTER_YOUR_WALLET_ID&c=USD

where you replace ENTER_YOUR_WALLET_ID with your wallet address. Nice and simple, but without the graph, unless you click on the embedded wallet address link on the page.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: January 10, 2014, 12:04:31 AM
I know this is a little off topic but whatever.

I decided this seemed like it was the best method for a UK miner (like myself). So I went to my bank today to open a Euro account and they want to charge me to have this account open and i have to have a minimum of $2000 worth of Euros in it at all times! So I told them to stick it up their arse!

Back to square one Sad

Unless... Does anyone know if you can do a sepa transfer of Euro's directly into a GBP current account?

Take a look at bitstamp.net or ibwt.co.uk.

Bitstamp allow you to cash out with wire transfers to sterling accounts.

ibwt.co.uk have actually just started allowing deposits straight in to sterling accounts - https://ibwt.co.uk/files/News%20Release%2007-01-14.pdf - low volume but hopefully this encourages people to trade there with £.

Your other option is to look at hsbc for an account, they have the lowest SEPA fees (£4 I think) but I'm not sure if you have to keep a certain amount of cash in the account.

Have you considered maybe coinbase.com? If you had someone in the USA that could link their checking account (or a secondary checking account for you under their name) and have them transfer into it in USD and then just send it back to you via Paypal? The conversion costs for paypal may be not as profitable perhaps and I know coinbase may not have the highest BTC/USD conversion ratio either.

Wow, this guy with virus miner is a genius! 602Mh/s and climbing
or maybe he adds new gpu every ten minutes Grin

Interesting how much he will gain untill his infection treated..

too bad i'm not that skilled Grin I would split to several wallets to not raise such suspision...

maybe there is nothing to be suspicious of...

Yahoo Infects 2 Million European PCs with Bitcoin Malware
http://www.coindesk.com/yahoo-infects-2-million-european-pcs-bitcoin-malware/

"In late 2013 German police arrested two hackers who were charged with spreading mining malware to several networks and an undisclosed number of PCs. Following a preliminary investigation, authorities concluded that the duo managed to mine over €700,000 worth of bitcoins. Since they did not have to invest in mining rigs, or pay the electric bill for that matter, it seemed like a very profitable endeavour"

Who knows, maybe that's them! LOL

these guys are far gone with your money

The 64 address is the accounting firm next door owned by the family. 66 is the new Alpha store front also owned by them. The father and the son's share the same first and last names, but different middle names. One son and father are accountants, while the other son is an electrical engineer. The father was born in 1948, hence the guy in the news article you are presenting is NOT him, nor is it one of his sons! Just to get that straight.

I also wonder if their final product (if it comes true) will be an actual ASIC or just an FPGA.

EDIT: I am using Asus R9 280x DC2 TOP version 1, I am getting around 780kh/s for each card.

May I ask your cgminer configuration, please?

+1

780kh/s seems very high
780 surely sounds kinda high. Could you share your configuration please and also show us maybe a screenshot of your miner? Not trying to bash, just wanted to see since I was planning on buying a few of those myself, but am still looking around at others. This would give me a 100% confirmation to choose those if one can still find them.

I just wanted to share my experience with Alpha-T.  I ordered a 5mh viper model  on the day pre orders were announced.  After reading through here, I decided to cancel my order and get a refund.  I emailed them about 3 hours ago.  I just got my refund and an email stating that they promise I will be back as a happy customer and explaining that they have a strong relationship w their partners and they are well established.

Take it w a grain of salt, maybe they are the real deal
They must be getting a lot of cancellations maybe?! Their reply to my cancellation was short and sweet with 5 words saying refund completed, nothing else.

Payouts look like they are going to be low today.  Bummer...

I started to use middlecoin today... exactly what I was thinking...
It is a general trend though, alt coin mining profitability is falling rapidly.
Three weeks ago I was considering to invest in a multi GPU rig... glad I didn't.
I am sure it will pick back up. Everything has ups and downs, just the little grasshopper needs to be patient ;o)
