The one you are using is not with the latest performance optimizations and does not have the latest poclbm with the backup pool support.

You set it in the main pool tab, no need of extra tabs.

The backup parameter is only for poclbm which is the default OCL miner for GUIminer.

Yes, in the extra flags field you add: --backup=yourworkerusername:yourworkerpassword@pool.bloodys.com:8332

The latest version of the GuiMiner comes with the new poclbm, so you just need to set the extra parameter --backup= and your backup pool info, you can even set multiple backup pools separating the login info with a coma.

We are up to about 6 GH/s at the moment...

Why split it, if you worry about a pool going down you can just setup a backup server, so if one pool is down the miner will automatically switch to the backup pool and you will not loose anything. Try the latest poclbm, besides the performance improvement it also comes with a backup pool server option.

As for PPS, it depends on the current pool luck, if the pool is lucky (average blocks below difficulty) then Proportional is better, if the block size goes higher than the difficulty for a while you may be better with PPS. In general with big pools such as deepbit there is no need to go for PPS as their average long time luck is usually about the difficulty level, and blocks are being calculated quite fast, so not much need to risk it with PPS and the higher fee and constantly monitor if at the moment it is better to go for PPS or Proportional, so better stick with Prop.

If you are mining at another big pool you can use this one as a backup, I've just tested it with the backup option of the new poclbm miner and it is working great if your main pool is down it automatically switches back to our pool and then back to the main pool when it is back online again. This way you won't be wasting any of your calculating resources and at the same time help us grow bit by bit

The pool is in beta, but it is working on a real block. So when it is solved everyone will get their portion of the reward.

Depending on the block size we can solve it faster or it can take longer time, but that also depends on the total hash rate of the pool, so if it grows significantly we can do it much faster.

PandaMarketer, are you still having the same problem connecting?

You might've tried to connect while I was doing something to the server today.

Actually the stats on the pools can be more accurate as they usually base their report for your hash rate on the number of shares you have submitted to the server. So even if you local miner says you have 300 MH/s and you are having trouble connecting to the pool server, or the pool server is overloaded with requests and it reports you have only 200 MH/s, then it is a bad thing as you are actually getting paid for these 200 MH/s as this is the equivalent in processing power getting to the server in the form of shares at the moment.

But in order for this information to be more accurate, the pool server needs to average the number of shares submitted for a longer period of time, like at least 10 minutes, otherwise with the information may be inaccurate based on the number of shares you are submitting.

So don't forget to monitor the pool load stats and to see if your miner is being idle more often...

You can modify the BIOS of the video card with higher voltage using RBE (Radeon Bios Editor) and then reflash the card with the modified BIOS, after that you can only play with the frequency as the voltage would be higher by default...

2. With the current difficulty level you will actually loose money instead of earn if you try to calculate hashes using only the CPU.

Starting to mine a bit if you already have the hardware and then using the earned BTCs for trading on the market until you get the hang of it is probably the best choice for everyone new to bitcoin, this way you can get the hang of how things work and may be better of than immediately going trading on the exchanges...

It is much easier to just download and try with LinuxCoin, especially if Linux is not your thing.

I've just made my first trade on Bitcoin7 today and all went well, although they don't have that much trading going on yet.
