I'm not an idiot I just don't know much about code.

Masternode Payments Fork IssuesThe past couple of days the network has been forking randomly because of some issue with the masternode payment system. This is the first we've seen this issue (we ran masternode payments with nothing like this happening on testnet for a month). To remedy this situation, I am:
1.) Uploading a checkpoint to ensure clients are on the correct fork. If you're on a different block then http://explorer.darkcoin.io/ please pull the changes from the repo and run with -reindex 2.) Turning off masternode payments effective tomorrow. I'm working on a patch to turn off masternode payments and restore stability to the network. This should be done soon. tl,dr: IF YOUR VERSION DOESNT END WITH AN ".8" UPDATE IT!. IF YOUR VERSION DOESNT END WITH AN ".9" UPDATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The links above point to .9 version already, at least the git and the rc2 ones do I updated to 0.9.4.9 and it says I'm synch to network. Thanks for the help.

Can confirm you really have to delete the old block chain and peer data to resynch. No way around this.
Was there ever another way? Lols... Please elaborate on steps to resynch wallet and which version to use. My 10.7.4 stuck at 75103. I'm afraid to help you. You'll probably delete something I don't tell you to delete, lose your private keys for good, and then blame me... Do you even know the path to your wallet.dat? Yes and fuck you for your insult.

Hello Drk community. Seems I may have made a large mistake. I haven't kept up on the forum and I sent a number of Drk using what is now the old wallet. After upgrading it shows the amount sent with zero confirmations after an hour or so. Are the coins lost or will they eventually bounce back to the original wallet address?
I had this same issue and it was resolved automatically after 2-3 hours.

Are coins lost if you send them from an old wallet after a hard fork? No they shouldn't be, 'cause it never happened He fixed it by updating the wallet to vs 0.9.3.4 Are coins lost if you send them from an old wallet after a hard fork? Nevermind I updated to the new wallet and it finally has the clock progress symbol in my wallet next to the tx. And just to note it seems crypsty has me listed as pending so it's on their side. Hopefully I will wake up tomorrow with the coin I had to submit a ticket for the deposit to confirm on cryptsy. The response was fast, though. At Mintpal, the deposit confirmation was nearly instantaneous.

I deposited coins to an exchange with the old wallet. The Tx ID doesn't show up on the blockchain. I updated the wallet and nothing changed. Does that mean the coins are gone? Anything I can do?

About the name - I think the Darkcoin is quite a good name, however if majority wants to change and vote, here's couple ideas:
BitCash iCash MyCash E-Cash
eCash

First draft of Darkcoin bountiesThese are subject to change. Please suggest more and give me your feedback. A quick explanation of how this will work: The "base bounty amount" is not the final bounty, it's a relative figure to make calculations easier. The base figure is adjusted depending on the actual donations we've received in the fundraiser. The "adjusted bounty amount" is what will actually be paid out. TL/DR: Donate more, and all the bounties will go up! *** PLEASE NOTE: Translation bounties will apply only to the new website, which is not yet launched! Expect it to be launched within a couple weeks. *** Fundraising wallet: Xc8xGSP7FwWGPQpgw298z7NYdA8xJK8ooh PM me your submissions with some kind of proof that it's your work. Some of these bounties are first-in-gets-paid, and some will go into a pool where the best will be judged to receive the bounty (these are marked as such below). To be honest, I'm a little ticked that this started out as "Bounty pool for marketing and branding" and now it's just "Darkcoin bounties" including bug reports etc. I'm fine with that for now, if that's what the funds are most needed for at this point. But at some point, we need a REAL marketing pool, and it shouldn't be just spent on these incremental increases in value. It should be spent on something AWESOME. Marketing is an art, you don't just pay out a couple hundred bucks to make a slightly better website or translate to an additional language. At least, that's not ultimately the best use of funds when you're ready for mass adoption. Right now, this thread has ~171,000 page views. That's great for now. A liberal estimate means maybe 200,000 people have heard of Darkcoin. All it takes is one good marketing play... one single thing that stands out, and you get over 10 million people that have now heard about your coin. Doge has no technical use whatsoever and is far less interesting than DRK, but a brilliant marketing idea like donating $30k to the jamaiican bobsled team generates over 10 million views. We need to find our own crazy marketing idea. I'm not sure what exactly that is, but something that fits DRK and will get 10 million views based just on one single marketing effort. This doesn't have to cost much, but it will take a decent chunk of any marketing pool and be worth way more than the sum of all of these incremental updates. It could be something like a billboard. You can rent out a billboard for a month that displays digital ads in a high traffic area along the freeway for under $1000/month. This probably isn't the best fit for DRK, but someone has to get creative and figure out what that is. I'd be willing to donate 5 to 10x my previous contribution to a marketing pool with a real marketing idea like this. It’s not in the list of bounties but I think it’s essential we have the following as soon as possible to attract the interest of the media (I’m a journalist so I feel confident about this!) 1. A considerable mailing list of journalists/newspapers/blogs, especially ones that have run features/news on Bitcoin in the past 2. A suite of professional press releases (this should be an ongoing project with press releases sent at every milestone) 3. One of the first releases should include a story about someone buying something anonymously with DRK. Most of the general news coverage about Bitcoin these days is either about security breaches at exchanges or merchants beginning to accept BTC/someone buying something unusual with BTC. We probably want the latter at the moment, with a focus on how the buyer was able to purchase anonymously Sorry about harping on about media but I really want to see DRK succeed! I wrote an early draft media release which could be updated for the first release ( http://pastebin.com/HjrXLCfg) and made a start at the mailing list ( http://pastebin.com/DMWjmqG2) I'd like to get Edward Snowden's endorsement of this coin. Maybe someone could write to him once the website is updated and he could begin accepting DRK.

Official fundraiser for Darkcoin marketing & branding
Since Darkcoin was 0% premined, we will be doing this the old fashioned way, with a fundraiser. Many people in the community have expressed an interest in pushing our marketing effort along. We wanted to make sure the time was right, while Evan sorted out the kinks in the Darksend code. But we are nearly ready to show Darkcoin and Darksend to the world, so let's get this moving.
I will release a list of bounties for marketing & branding in the next day or so when I have a bit of spare time. For now, you may donate to the official fundraising wallet (anonymously if you like!). You can also PM me with your donation details and I'll keep some accounting, if only for the sake of making sure your donation is accounted for and spent appropriately.
As always, you are a fantastic community and we appreciate your support!

Just sent 100 DRK. Once the main post gets updated with Foundation info and plan is detailed, I will pledge another 200 DRK. I am not a big holder but I hope everyone will do what they can with a view to increasing the prosperity of DarkCoin!

So I just had a random idea and I wanted to see if there's any interest in me developing this (after DarkSend of course).
I think it would be really neat and much more friendly if you could type something like "Evan" in the Pay To field. Bitcoin/Darkcoin addresses are just really long and impossible to remember, it's even harder to show a Bitcoin address in a video or picture without a QR Code.
The solution? Named Addresses
When mining, the miner who successfully mines the block could "name" a darkcoin address. It would be permanently added to the block chain as an alias of that darkcoin address. The names could be up to 8-20 characters and would be paired with the 160 bit address. Upon loading the blockchain the client would form a cache of all of these and then they could be used in place of the full addresses.
It's decentralized, permanent and tamper proof.
The block explorer could even show the alias instead of the address when it had it available, so in a DarkSend you could tell that "Evan" paid someone, but you would have no idea who.
How do you get a name?
This could be an opportunity for the pool operators to make extra cash. They would take orders for name/address pairs and tell the daemon which ones to add to the blockchain next. The blockchain could only support 1 of these per block, so there could be a premium for adding them. Eventually I could see a centralized market where you buy a spot in the queue to get a name.
Thoughts?
IMO, it sounds like a useful feature, but it's counter-productive to the ethos of DarkCoin. Crypto currencies are immature - there are hundreds and hundreds of useful features like this that could be added, but if you add too many to one such as DarkCoin, then it runs the risk of overcomplicating things and confusing people. Such features should be allowed to be introduced gradually to the market. For DRK, it doesn't add anything to help its cause. I agree. More than over complicating, it just doesn't flow with anonymity and privacy aspects that should resonate with DarkCoin imo. +1. IMO this is counter-productive to the main ethos of this coin, which is anonymity and privacy. I would rather devs focus on cleaner integration of darksend and insuring the code is bulletproof.

Thanks bigrcanada!
As mentioned above I think we should get the mining pools involved to offer an auto-donation to get the foundation funded. I also think we should use a similar rewards structure as heavy, obviously with fewer coins since ours are and will be worth so much more!
eduffield can you put up a donation address for the Foundation and implement the donation option on your pool to that address? If you do it then other mining pool operators can follow suit, up until a fund ceiling of 200,000 DRK or so.
I think most miners would be happy to contribute, especially when it will go directly to the foundation and improving the awareness, development and value of the coin. It's in everyone's best interest!

I'll be speaking at the Cryptocurrency Convention on Apr 9th in NewYork, detailing how DarkSend works and promoting DarkCoin. If anyone will be in NewYork at that time I'd love to meet you!
http://cryptocurrencyconvention.com/*My details should be up on the site soon THIS is the type of "marketing" this coin needs. Edu, can you talk any about what type of testing (beyond this community doing some DS transactions) you are doing? It's been mentioned before to try to let some "white-hat" types take a hammer to it... anything like that? To me, i'd like some sort of 3rd party endorsement on the anonymous transactions. There were a few people that came into the forums and said that it wasn't anonymous and could break it, I'll reach out to them and see if they're up for taking a look at it. This would be great to have for marketing purposes. Also, I was thinking you could institute a 2% fee for your mining pool that would go towards bounties for the DarkCoin Foundation. This would give miners a chance to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the coin.

DRK has two big issues that I see: (1) Because the power draw is only 60% of scrypt, large GPU farms that mine altcoins and dump them for BTC/fiat have an incentive to target DRK. More profit even at price parity due to lower electricity costs. This will keep market supply high perpetually and hence keep the price low. (2) The legions of unremarkable clone-coins will implement DarkSend once it's open-sourced. See how zero-talent "devs" are copy-pasting Vertcoin's anti-ASIC adaptive N algorithm. For both (1) and (2) the solution is greater adoption. In the case of (1) it reduces these quasi-commercial dumpers to a smaller proportion of the market. In the case of (2), it allows DRK to achieve escape velocity and get to a point where a competing clone coin can't catch up due to lacking the network effect. So I see "marketing" as crucial, even in the short-term. In any case, DarkSend should probably be kept closed-source before hitting at least Bter and BTC38 (not that I'm in any position to advise devs). Call it an extended mandatory beta or something. I agree, well said.
