1  Other / Beginners & Help / Problem with Deepbit on: June 15, 2011, 08:36:25 PM
I have 366 shares but my balance is only 0.008 BTC, and it hasn't updated for the last 200 shares I mined... that's not correct is it?

Edit: Never mind--it got sent to my wallet and there was a slight delay.
2  Bitcoin / Mining support / 2 mining questions on: June 13, 2011, 12:37:15 AM
Is it harmful to a GPU to push it to its limits for hours at a time?

Also I've heard that the cost of electricity can make mining unprofitable if you don't get a good hash rate (I have an Nvidia card so I get about 15 hash/s), but I usually leave my computer on all the time anyway. Is there a big difference in power consumption when mining versus not mining, or playing a 3D video game?

Thanks.

Great site, thanks.
4  Economy / Trading Discussion / Web Advertising for Bitcoins - Would this system work/is there any interest? on: June 12, 2011, 02:03:03 AM
Hi,

I run an online game creation website. We currently get about 4,000-15,000 page views per day; most of the users are ages 10-20.

I'd like to monetize the site, but there's a problem--I won't be 18 until next month, and all of the ad networks I could find required publishers to be 18 for legal reasons.

So in the meantime, I'd like to sell ad space for Bitcoins, mainly just to gain experience with managing an ad network since I plan to add my own virtual currency to the site eventually.

This is my plan for the ad management system: You sign up on our site, and add Bitcoins to your account (this is only telling us the maximum amount you want to spend--no money moves from you to me until your ad is displayed.) Each page on the site will have 1 or 2 ad banners. When a banner is displayed, the system will choose an ad at random, with the decision being weighted based on how much money was allocated for the ad: if you added 10 Bitcoins to your account and the total number of Bitcoins in the system was 100, there is a 10% chance that your ad would be displayed.

When your ad is shown, you are charged a very small amount of Bitcoins (I'm not sure what that number will be yet.) The same amount is subtracted from your account on the site. Your ad will still have a chance of being displayed until your account balance reaches 0.

I am going to add standard Google banners to the site next month, but if this is successful I'll try to leave a few Bitcoin ad slots up around the site. If not, you won't be losing any money since money is only charged when your ad is actually displayed.

Opinions?
