1  Economy / Speculation / Re: BitPay laid off nine employees yesterday. on: January 12, 2015, 04:12:49 AM

Ripple doesn't solve any problems. It's just another middleman charging more fees from your bank account. They don't have a store of value. They don't protect privacy. They can't be sent for free speech. Ripple doesn't do anything you can't do with fiat money. ApplePay will bury Ripple.

ApplyPay may do well this year, but it's largely a way of putting a bunch of your credit cards on your phone...doesn't seem all that exciting.  Any plans to use it for remittance?  Seems that's one of Ripple's potential edges.  It ain't easy for regular people to move money around the world cheap.  Bitcoin projects have tried to address it but not much so far.

2  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price is dropping and Difficulty is increasing !!! on: January 11, 2015, 10:58:29 PM
It's almost as if price and difficulty have no correlation.....

A lower price of BTC should push the difficulty lower or make it increase more slowly.
Incorrect. No matter which factor you try to apply, there is no correlation. At all.

Is there any chart available where the historical data of price and log of difficulty is plotted against each other ?

Anyone able to withdraw?
I can't get my coins out... :/
Buy XRP (ripple), send the coins at poloniex.com (make an account there) and exchange them for BTC if you want.

It works, it's currently the only way, do it, to stay safe.

Honestly how is ripple safe if it depends upon trust networks?

Still to this day I won't touch ripple with a 1000 foot pole.

The Ripple consensus ledger is a whole lot safer than holding any BTC on an exchange...
4  Economy / Speculation / Re: At what price does mining become unprofitable? on: January 04, 2015, 04:41:15 PM
Maybe we're just looking at miners who will continue to mine as long as they are coming out ahead on electricity costs, with little or no hope to recoup capital costs?
5  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is bitcoin plummeting? on: January 28, 2014, 05:28:26 AM
How about the fact that Google confirmed they are not working on incorporating Bitcoin as a payment method?  Of course if it is anything like Google confirming they are not interesting in buying Waze, things could turn around in a few weeks...  Smiley

Because Google is balls-deep in Ripple..

Do your research bro..

Google Ventures put in a few 100k back in April '13.  For Google that's not even the tip.

I believe Particle has a shot later in the year, maybe springtime into summer.

Definitely agree Unobtanium.  It was already over $5 and I think will go beyond.

Particle will reach 3billion + market cap?

the guy is a joker, particle sucks off qrks nipple. Clones the algo and the name and tells us it's 50x better than QRK with half the community all just noobs. Same for most of QRKs clones.

low minting coins could make it easy to $5

dmd, cgb, anon, these i think have already been close before.  Digital coin dev must be up to something, i would expect something big to come out of that one soon. This dev was the most inventive and hardworking dev on this board with except maybe sunny king ...hell knows where he is right now.... up to something though i'm sure.

i like qqc and velocity - both could do well again both semi low minting.

Any currency with over 100M minting will have to be very innovative or do something freaky to get near $5 each.

I agree with you on several of those coins.
Crypto, you always post meaningful information. This is the kind of shit i like to read, not just some half-baked nub that's promoting his investment.

Nxt could also pull off a $5 per coin. Due to the fact its something brand new, every other coin that's trying to build from ground 0 is failing or has failed.
Yes i have a stake in NXT, and i believe it's a big technical innovation in the crypto space.

We can wait to see what eMunie puts out though.

+1  was over cautious with nxt only bought 4ltc worth just after launch Sad guy was selling a million i think for 0.8BTC should have snatched it up but whimped out and just got a handful. I agree say what you will about the distribution, the guy created something new that is above and beyond 99% of clones on here.

anyway we'll just have to wait and see.... you never know when something game changing is going to come along.  Sad ripple didn't do what they said and give out loads more for free.

Tag promised a lot but as yet have not seen too much from that one in terms of price appreciation anyway.

I'm not sure what your expectation was of Ripple?  They struggled to find a good way to distribute XRP in a way that made sense to build the network.  I think they found a decent approach in what is basically mining with a purpose in the BOINC / World Community Grid giveaway.  That's distributing 1.25 million XRP every day, divided up based on WCG contribution.

7  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is MtGox dying? on: January 28, 2014, 03:45:53 AM
i really hope mtgox is working onto become a ripple gateway. that would solve all their problem.

Well I suppose, you could withdraw btc from mtgox to Ripple and exchange for XRP, assuming people want to buy mtgox backed BTC, then exchange the XRP for bitstamp USD or some other gateway that can actually process USD withdrawals.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most Promising Altcoins for 2014 on: January 28, 2014, 03:26:49 AM
DOGE is fun and will continue up for a bit, but I think it's decline will begin in the next year as people get bored of it.

Ripple will have a big year as more gateways come on board, volumes increase and client is improved.  More gateways will also allow for small scale remittance to start up, showing some of it's real potential.  Along with greater trading of bitcoin and alt coins.  Hard to beat instant transactions and relatively user friendly trading platform.  Ripple has also finally come up with a good way to distribute XRP with the BOINC giveaway.  It has a solid 'mining' type process that actually puts computing power to good use.

Ripple is completely different though as I don't think you can mine it. I read its a scam as well

Ripple is different as they didn't want to do bitcoin style mining that is basically just a huge waste of power.  But they do run a giveaway through BOINC/World Community Grid.  So you can exchange compute power for XRP.  See: https://www.computingforgood.org/
