Hi Guys,

I have a Sapphire RX480 running on Ubuntu 16.04 making a poor 437.48 Kkey/s with oclvanitygen.

Don't understand why it is so slow.

I have installed AMDGPU-PRO Driver for Linux (as RX480 isnot supported with fglrx) and then (according to https://nastyfans.org/download/oclvanitygen.txt)

# get source and compile oclvanitygen
git clone https://github.com/samr7/vanitygen.git
cd vanitygen
wget https://nastyfans.org/download/patch-oclvanitygen-amd.diff
patch -p1 < patch-oclvanitygen-amd.diff
wget https://nastyfans.org/download/AMD-APP-SDK-v2.7-lib-lnx64.tar.gz
mkdir sdklib
tar -xzvf AMD-APP-SDK-v2.7-lib-lnx64.tar.gz -C sdklib
make oclvanitygen

# run oclvanitygen (from inside vanitygen directory)
env LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./sdklib ./oclvanitygen -D 0:0 -k 1Nasty

Just get 0.1 BTC worth, very little risk, big potential upside.

That's exactly the nice little bet I made with the BitCommoditiz... As told before I am a rather "old school" guy, can't really figure out if your sci-fi coin as a temporal future in the Alpha Quadrant.

Good luck anyway!

buy: Doge
Mine: Doge  Smiley

Can somehone sincerely say why this coin is of any interest ?

I do not understand the added value of a coin with a dog on it ! It is just unbeleivable.

This can not be serious, this can not last.

Yes I can. First - Let me ask you a rhetorical question - Why do any of these coins have value? We are using supercomputers to calculate dummy data that literally serves no purpose, yet for some absurd reason people find value in them. From this perspective society should give this whole idea a huge slap upside the head. Anyways, im done with my soap box rant, so let me provide you my real answer to value.

  • 1. BTC has value and is the safest because it is the standard conversion currency for all crypto-currency. It is the USD of the crypto world, and if something ever happened to make it's value be zero, every single other currency would instantly be 100% worthless.
  • 2. Value of a coin is 100% dependent on market demand of that coin. Why do people want it? This is very text book supply and demand.
  •                   A.  The biggest factor in DOGE's value is the community. Probably the largest active community. They love their coin
  •                   B.  There are online stores where you can spend your DOGE for stuff... like an XBOX1.
  •                   C.  The confirmation times of DOGE coin are fast, so it can actually be used to buy stuff quickly unlike BTC/LTC
  •                   D.  World news stations are covering it because the community is sending people to the Olympics and stuff

So that's why. I actually think DOGE coin is probably the most valuable coin out there. If I was picking one coin to put all my faith in... It's DOGE for the reasons I just said. How about you tell me why you dont think it is worth anything of value.

BTW - In case you wanted to tip for my advice, my DOGE address = DTGmiJLnn1r941s4Rb2JNjttTXt7Ht2BnY

+1 for you. I must admit community is a real factor in a coin success. DOGE has indeed a broad community.

I do not hate no coin, I do not say it does not worth for nothing I am just trying to figure out which ones are the best to invest in. As a rather old school guy I am very sceptical with the minimalist concept around DOGE coin (except the broad community: once again, here you are right). Maybe I have to change my point of view !

In the meantime I made a deal with the BitCommoditiz guys (bought 1,000 of their "XAUz" for a small fraction of BTC). I like their concept.

-Really fair start with almost month “launch phase” and no premine and absolutely good initial coin parcelling – https://infogr.am/betacoin-difficulty?src=web
-Fast and at the same time reasonable and secure block target time – 4 minute
-Fast and really good scaled network difficulty adjustment parameters – 4 min blocks are really 4 minute blocks and block time intervals in Betacoin network much more stable that Bitcoin
-SHA256 means absolutely hardware compartible
-POW means real decentralisation
-32 mln Betacoin units production and ~0,39%annual after is a really good thing for network in future
-Fast main coin supply – after 6 years the main coin amount will be in circulation, means can be used for real economy needs faster.
-Transaction comments – feature with lots of further implementations and make network more transparent.

Very supportive and strong community which wants to see a legal true decentrallized coin and fast enough in order to perform transactions even within totalitarian regimes.

Also today it was announced, probably, the most advanced blockchain explorer platform on the scene, that makes Betacoin even more transparent . Active development, new features every day.

+1 for the "fair start" however block 16,000 is behind us. Too late for me.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best coin to buy or mine on: January 31, 2014, 05:16:34 PM

From http://betacoin.org/about

"It is based on the Bitcoin protocol but differs from Bitcoin in some specifications. Betacoin provides faster transaction confirmations (4 minutes average block generating time)"

Anything more to know ?

[WARNING ! This is a continuation of the following thread]
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=438512.0;all

(A very interesting thread every Newbie like myself should read: including instructive methods on how to artificialy push up a 0 day coin)

At the opposite of thoses artificialy pushed up here is my own top third "honest coins":
- DigibyteCoin: for the ultra fast wallet, fast enough to buy coffee at Starbucks.
- BitCommoditiz: for the innovation, the first crypto coin claiming being tied to real assets.
- Ron Paul Coin: for the massive buzz, including Ron Paul himself.

Want to hear from you guys. What are the other "honest" coins around here and WHY do you beleive their are ?

As always my-coin-is-the-best guys, please just stay away from this thread...

Hi guy,

I want to invest in new coins. Why should I invest on your coin ? Why is your coin so "new and different"?
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best coin to buy or mine on: January 30, 2014, 11:55:42 AM
Ok let me give you an honest answer since a lot of these answers are done by people owning lot's of the coins, or being involved in the coin, or having benefits you mining or buying a specific coin. I am not saying everyone ... but just my opnion. I am not saying that the following is the truth, but to my limited experience this is what i noticed:

When a coin is most profitable to mine... you are actually too late. When you want to make money with limited hashing power Always mine 0-day coins. How stupid their names are, or how silly/limited their announcement is.

Always look at the launch, it should not be pre-mined too much. A little for giveaways is ok, to attract attention to the coin. When a launch goes bad by DDOS attacks they are probably doing this themselves so they can pre-mine after launch. In my opinion one of the demands of [Suspicious link removed]hould be that all coin announcement should be pre-announced to give everyone an honest chance. But hey... who am i. If a launch should go bad they should re-launch it another time. But this almost never happens.

Most coin-devs want to mine a lot of coins themselves the first few days, and it's not in their benefit attracting lot's of miners bringing to diff up too soon.  What they do is make a fast , small announcement without much graphics or any other fancy stuff.  Then after a few days they edit the post and make it more attractive so many miners will mine, pump up the diff. And then the dev (and the first day miners) can dump the coins on the first exchange it hits.

99.9% of all coins are not made for a longer period of a few months.  What also happens is that they let the coin die, let all people sell their coins for peanuts and buy all the coins, and then jumpstart the coin again after a few weeks (like a re-launch) and then sell it when it's worth something.

There are very little announcements for coins that are actually going to be worth something in the future. If i would make a guess i would say the Ron Paul Coin (since Ron Paul will run for president if he can, and he has spoken positive about the RPC) and the DGB (digibyteCoin that has a lot's of devs and really tries to make it a coin with Merchants).

Hope this helps.

Edit:  Something i forgot:

Most launches are done by devs that have an account not much older then a month. This is because they use new accounts to launch new coins everytime the old coin is dead. It's just left dead when pumped & dumped.

The only coin that has real value is Bitcoin like someone below said. This is because you can actually do/buy something with this coin.  Most (almost all) Altcoins are just ways to get more Bitcoins, not to compete against it.

+1 really cleaver and usefull answer. Many thanks to you.

A lot of interesting things in your post !

A new "honest" coin should be:
- not too much premined
- not under DDOS attacks or suspiciously overmined at launch (aka pleased to be mined at low difficulty)
- clearly announced from launch with all required fancy stuff and broad communication
- must not be a pure carbon copy of the-coin-the-same-guys-launched-one-week-ago
- build to last more than a few months (for example some innovation within the source code should demonstrate a dev team is present and truly involved)

One could say that a good new coin should smell sweat at launch! Honest things must always smell sweat (at least a little  Grin)

Are you yourself involved with RPC or DGB ?

Buy: KlondikeCoin
Mine: NyanCoin

No brainer: Buy/Mine Cash. Price is a cert to go up once it hits Cryptsy, and it will hit Cryptsy.

Easy to mine, soon to hit an exchange: Fckbankscoin
Nyan won't hit anywhere. Nobody knows which nyan you're talking about here. Yea, there are two different nyan coins if someone didn't already know it. I hate this biased bullshit, everybody just promotes their shitcoins.

Welcome to the altcoin section.

Thank you !  Smiley

[to NUFCrichard]

Sorry if I posted in the wrong section but I do not think the question is pointless. Of course a a mining profitablility site is a good place to look at for the established coins.

For sure again each guy will point out its own coin of interested (that's why I asked "my-coin-is-the-best" answer just to stay away). That's indeed most of the answers except the "BitCommoditiz" which looks somewhat new indeed if what is said is correct. I have to study that, don't fully understand at this point but maybe that's a coin to follow.

There is always noise in any topic...

The core question is: for very new coins (just announced here). What you guy makes you consider mining a brand new coin ?
- Giveways ?
- funny coins ?
- technical aspects ?
- premine ?
- other ?

If we all agree on the main requirements with new coins, we would now what to mine before difficulty gets high... pointless ?

Jerry.

Hi guys,

Every day a new coins appears on the market (name-of-my-dog-coin, let-s-be-rich-together-coin and so on...).

I want to invest in crypto coins, either by buying some GPU power and point it to a new, but promissive coin, and/or invest directly by buying much mature coins on the market.

In your opinion what are the best coins to mine and the best coins to buy? And why? (please "my-coin-is-just-the-best" guy, just stay away from this topic).

Thank you.
