I sold 25btc for $120 back in the panic of 2011/12 lost out on some good money, Don't do the same.

I would have gone with a quad x-fire/sli board, these carry enough power through the PCI-E and the risers wont need to be powered. You might get away with 2x powered and 2x non-powered risers.

I run 3x R9 280x on 1000w, it might at a push be ok. I am planning to add a 4th and see if it can cope.

Risers are a nightmare, you will need powered definatley! I can only run 4 without powered as it's a quad x-fire board

R9 280x now but 5850 back then or cheap 6990, but the heat 

Any issues just re-install drivers, mine went when adding an extra card 

Mine, 2x 6990 under liquid @ ~1,900 kh/s (950 kh/s each) and 3x R9 280x Asus TOPs on air @ ~2,400 kh/s (800 kh/s each)
