Firstly where do I buy trc from? I lost all mine on vircurex.

What is the cost of running a node? Do I need a server? How does it work exactly?

Ok thanks for the help everyone!  First lost hundreds of thousands with mt gox and now I can't even rescue my final few btc from vircurex..

Anyone want to donate some trc to an idiot who will never transfer his coin out of his wallet ever again? xD

How much did you loose?

Post your TRC address maybe some people will help out!

That would be fantastic! It was a little over 40,000 trc that I lost. Let's see what happens I guess.

Thanks this worked great for me. One other question though. So I sent some trc to my wallet before I updated the blocksource, the blocksource is now updated, and my trc have not arrived. Any advice?

When you say you sent them before the blocksource updated do you mean that you were using the old wallet?  Sent from where?

Well my blockource wasnt updating, so I added the nodes as was suggested in this thread. I just downloaded the wallet a few days ago from terracoin.info, so I think it's the new wallet. and I sent my trc from vircurex.

Vircurex is on the old blockchain which isn't getting mined so it will never advance.  See if they have some way to cancel an order (since the blockchain hasn't advanced you may be able to).

I have emailed Vircurex at least 10 times asking them to update their wallet and never heard back from them.  I wouldn't use Vircurex for any trading since their site hasn't been updated in at least 6 months.

You may be able to get another coin out of there, but I would check to make sure their block chain is up to date for whatever coin you try.

Who ever has the .8 BTC buy order for TRC on there should immediately cancel it and withdraw their Bitcoin.

I downloaded the wallet and it says that no block source is available.  Can someone help?  Do I need to create a conf file?

We are having an issue with the seed nodes.  This will be fixed with the next release of the TRC wallet.

In the meantime you can manually add these nodes which cynixali provided.

Some current nodes if you are having trouble connecting:
addnode 62.138.3.214:13333 add
addnode 23.152.0.149:13333 add
addnode 108.61.10.90:13333 add
addnode 82.200.205.30:13333 add
addnode 93.113.101.229:13333 add

Just copy and paste each of those into the debug console and it should find peers pretty quick.

Tell me if you have any troubles after that.  Thanks!

I've entered the website details and the details of the scam in the UK fruad squads online reporting form.

Fraud is illegal.

I don't think there is need to involve the authorities. This only affects the bitcoin community, our responsibility is to alert other in the community. Problem solved without potentially giving bitcoin bad press.

Everyone says end the fed, stop printing money blah blah blah. However most don't realize that a great solution to this is right there being underutilized, BTC.

I would like to help educate as many people as possible about what BTC is and isn't. Do no underestimate the people at these protests. Plenty have jobs and money, and probably wouldnt mind investing $20-$50 on the spot.

I would set up a table with an internet ready laptop, assisting people in the funding of their brand new accounts.

Does anyone want to help me educate the masses?  Or at least coordinate with me in your own city?

I am in Philadelphia by the way.

The key problem with going from fiat currency to bitcoins is that bitcoins do not have an "established" value. For example, if you have 1 dollar you can calculate your buying power relative to the currency of another country. With the rapidly fluctuating value of bitcoins relative to fiat currencies, no serious business will dare to use it. Today 2 BTC may be worth $20 and tomorrow work $10...then a week later $50.

One thing that could help is if the community deals exclusively with bitcoins and stops trying to mine them and cash out. If we as a community form a consensus on the value of 1 BTC, we can then form pricing for various products and services accordingly.

Let's try this:

We arbitrarily decide that 1 BTC should be equivalent to $100.00 USD in terms of buying power. A consensus is formed in the community to support this valuation. All products and services from that point should be priced in BTC according to 1 BTC = $100, regardless of what the exchange markets say.

1) If people see that 1 BTC has $100 USD of buying power, they would be less inclined to sell it on mt.gox for a mere $15 in an attempt to cash out.

2) If people can purchase the products and services they want with BTC then it eliminates the need to cash out, so the marketplace needs to be diverse and full of stuff people actually want.

3) For people who do want to cash out, the markets will be forced to adjust accordingly and should stabilize as more people simply transact with BTC rather than cashing out.

this is very close to the solution. but instead of simply saying it is worth $100 say it is always worth x+10 x being the value of BTC in dollars. Because if it were randomly $100, the vendor would have to sell $100 worth of goods for only $15 (as of right now). so maybe it should be x+6 or even less. Or maybe similar to the mining difficulty levels start at x+50 and gradually lower it until the market stabilizes.Do you see what Im saying?

Howabout the sports books?  Big sites like intertops.  Do they take Bitcoin?

intertops can still accept credit care, moneygram etc.. i dont understand how they are allowed to. and I have no idea how to contact the owner to pitch him the idea.

As far as I know all the big poker sites were just recently raided and taken down by the US gov. There is actually a lot of potential here if someone can start a legitimate poker client that will only accept bit coin.

enormous potential this should be on the main forum. I dont see any other way aside from this to inject enormous amounts of money in such a short amount of time. ha! and they call us newbies....
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The thing that will make BTC Skyrocket... on: June 17, 2011, 10:42:08 PM
I would love to know what those sites are, and I am sure the old gambling site owner would love to know as well. if we had gambling money pour into the economy it would sky rocket.

Do you think we have to be prepared for a BTC related search engine incase google is forced or decideds to block BTC content? Its conspiracy-y and far in the future, nut im just curious.
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The thing that will make BTC Skyrocket... on: June 17, 2011, 10:11:15 PM
This was literally the first thing done.

Check out http://probiwon.com/

for an example.

So, You're right, but not really to original.

We need real gambling games like poker, not whatever the hell that is.

I started a thread over at eBid which is the big competitor to eBay about accepting new payment forms.   While "bidding pond" is nice it's not very large and I find the site slow.  eBid has millions of auctions running each day.  They also seem accepting to new forms of payment.  Right now they accept well over a dozen forms - Including cash.  BTC seems like a no brainer.   So BTC fans head on over and post to the thread.

Awesome I will be adding to the discussion over there shortly.

Just go here to register: https://us.ebid.net/perl/normal.cgi?home=us&mo=register-main  and then click on the link i quoted.

Could you put a limited amount of inventory for sale with BTC? so as not too risk too much, Im sure you will receive business.
