1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FAIR] FairCoin - for a fair economy, featuring proof-of-cooperation on: December 10, 2017, 09:28:46 PM
I got the following error when the new faircoin2 wallet tried to read the wallet.dat from the older verison.

Error reading wallet.dat! All Keys read correctly, but transaction data or address book entries might be missing or incorrect

I did not get any such errors with the old wallet and it opened up fine.

Please help
You should not manually copy the old wallet.dat file over. Instead, just make sure the old wallet.dat is located at the FairCoin1 default location: ~/.FairCoin/wallet.dat and that there is no wallet.dat file at the new location: ~/.faircoin2/wallet.dat. Once you have these files in the right place start the FairCoin2 wallet and it will automatically convert and copy the wallet.dat for you.

how to get my faircoin1 moved to faircoin2?

i tried just putting the wallet.dat files from old to new in the app data

didnt work?

actually is there still a working old faircoin block explorer I want to find how many old faircoin i have in each of these wallets before doing this?

If you use the core wallet, should be enough to install faircoin 2 wallet, in the same seasson of same computer. Then detects it automatically.

It seems to not work. all my wallet.dats from fair coin 1 show zero coins.

I would not like to think i would keep wallet.dats with zero coin inside.

I can not sync the faircoin 1 wallet up but I just want to check those wallet addresses on the faircoin1 block explorer to see if any have coins inside.

Where is the fair coin 1 block explorer?

See here for wallet migration information: https://github.com/faircoin/faircoin/wiki/FairCoin2-migration-FAQ#how-do-i-migrateupgrade-the-faircoin-core-wallet

where to trade original faircoin for 2
Please, stop spreading FUD here, OK?

FUD?
why do you insult me thokon00?

perhaps you better read twice.

btw -thanks for the great job of merging/creating into the new faircoin!

I was referring to the following statement of yours:

That said your faircoin1 tokens do still exist and rest in the wallets of bittrex.
That's a unacceptable circumstance!

Well, maybe I got you wrong. Please elaborate on what you wanted to say here.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FAIR] Faircoin2 Launch postponed to 18th of july on: July 26, 2017, 07:59:58 AM
where to trade original faircoin for 2

Who would wan't to trade a coin without a supporting community, nore activ coding development, nore trading platforms like the "original" faircoin against it's evolution? We already have a evoltioning fair money coin → faircoin.

But what the still existing fairtoken could be used for is to create other evolutionary forks for to creat fairShares, fairTickets and other blockchain related use cases for the community. We will always have the basics of a worlking ledger that has a wide distribution of already interested "stake holders".

Point is that we we would have to rescue in the first place the coins that are on electrum servers as the faircoin1 server went down, at least for a prudent time period, to give people the chance to take their tokens of the electrum wallets, and of course all the tokens that are on the old ledger at bittrex have to be recovered also! I doubt that bittrex has any legal rights to those tokens.

What are you talking about? Every user keeps the same balance in FairCoin2 in a 1:1 manner starting from the 18th of July! No coins are lost or inaccessible. Just download the latest wallets from here including the Electrum wallet and you're good. To all of you: do not trust or care what is happening on the deprecated FairCoin1 blockchain.

Stop using the FairCoin1 blockchain. Close your old wallets and upgrade them. The wallet upgrade happens automatically on the first start of the FairCoin2 core wallet. No user interaction needed.

For the time being, restore your Electrum for FairCoin2 wallet from the seed.

That said your faircoin1 tokens do still exist and rest in the wallets of bittrex.
That's a unacceptable circumstance!
Again, what are you talking about? Bittrex supports FairCoin2 only. We were closely working together to perform a professional swap on the 18th. Please, stop spreading FUD here, OK?

There is no such thing like a FairCoin1 token, there isn't. FairCoin1 is a deprecated piece of software that needs to be upgraded.

If you're not sure about issues related the migration to FairCoin2 please consult this document here: https://github.com/faircoin/faircoin/wiki/FairCoin2-migration-FAQ
Or Just ask here first, before posting false assumptions.

Nevertheless, thanks for the guide in your previous post.

Cool, what hardware device product did you use?

trezor for now there's only one model, the v2 still in development, i used ubuntu 16.04, 64bit with the official trezor bridge drivers from here https://wallet.trezor.io and th python-trezor libraries from here the https://github.com/trezor/python-trezor.

Code:
pip install trezor

and

sudo apt-get install python-dev cython libusb-1.0-0-dev libudev-dev git
sudo pip install setuptools

OK, cool! I was trying with a Ledger Nano which did not work. I could set up the wallet and receive coins but could not send any. I think the new Ledger Nano S would work though.

hi,
i'm sorry for this question, but i had no time to follow the topic.

i have the old version of the wallet with some faircoin inside, i partecipated in the first airdrop.
what can i do?

I have only to download the new wallet and import the file?

No, nothing to import. Just start the new wallet. It will automatically convert the old FairCoin1 wallet in to a new one into a different data directory.

I have some faircoins left in the exchange mintpal before it shut down. Is there any way I can recover those faircoins?

Unfortunately, no. The coins we've received back then (which were in fact less than the actual balance of all user accounts at Mintpal) were returned in a first-come first-serve manner. All users have been notified to claim their coins.

There are no coins left.

Is there any way to track the amount of faircoins received from Mintpal and the amount of faircoins returned to each owner of those faircoins?

You'll find the information in one of the FairCoin threads in the forum. We posted it back then. I don't have time to search it for you because I'm all busy preparing the launch of FairCoin2.

Hi all,

here are the latest development updates for FairCoin2:

FairCoin2 core wallet:
In the last weeks we started a new test blockchain and all FairCoin1 balances have successfully been transferred there. We tested the latest code under near 'real live' conditions. As a result the code received more optimisation and runs pretty stable now. Although, there is still room for improvement we will now try to have someone capable to review the FairCoin2 code to spot potential flaws so we can fix them. I have a first meeting on Friday.

Fasito (FairCoin signature token):
At the moment there are 3 devices running on the test blockchain so far without any problem. The source code has been released under the GPL on github. There is still one major task to complete before it can be used in production: activate the memory protection on the device.

Electrum server:
We switched from the standard electrum-server project to the new electrumx project. This is a complete re-implementation of the electrum stratum protocol in python3. It outperforms the original version by orders of magnitude. The adoptions for FairCoin2 are complete and sent upstream for inclusion in the main tree.

Electrum client wallet:
We have a working version, which is already adopted for the latest FairCoin2 core version. There is still an open issue with the transaction fee logic that needs to be addressed. (Anyone ready to help here?)

FairCoin2 Block explorer:
It has also been updated to reflect the last recent changes and displays all the FairCoin specialities correctly. Design improvements would be desired but are not required. (Anyone wants to help here?)

Native Android wallet:
This project actually consists of two separate projects: faircoinj and android-wallet on top of it. Yesterday I started working on faircoinj. I hope to have a first alpha wallet available by the end of next week.

there's a testnet for faricoin 2 ?

Hi Jack!

The current FairCoin2 block chain is for testing only. It will be reset when FairCoin2 is launched. So you can just play with the main chain Wink

Build instructions for the curious:
Code:
git checkout https://github.com/FairCoinTeam/faircoin2.git
cd faircoin2
./autogen.sh
./configure --disable-tests -disable-bench --with-incompatible-bdb --with-gui=qt4
make -j`nproc`
src/faircoind -printtoconsole
# if you've built the QT GUI client too start it like this:
src/qt/faircoin-qt -printtoconsole

When FC2 is launched all balances are automatically transferred to the new block chain. All the users need to do is to upgrade their wallet software. Once the wallet is in sync the same balance will be available.

Announcing a new wallet:
Electrum for FairCoin

We are happy to announce the immediate availability of a new FairCoin wallet: Electrum for FairCoin.
Further information and download are available here:

During the last weeks much work has been put into creating a stable, feature complete port of the Electrum wallet which was originally created for Bitcoin. I have created binary packages for FairCoin for all common operating systems. It runs smoothly even on a Raspberry PI Smiley

By downloading Electrum for FairCoin you can start using FairCoins within minutes and without any hassle: it's easy to use, blazing fast and feature rich.

Some of the key features are:

Safe
Your private keys are encrypted and never leave your computer.

Flexible
You can use your wallet on several computers at the same time.

Forgiving
Your wallet can be recovered from a secret phrase.

Instant On
Electrum is fast, because it uses servers that index the FairCoin blockchain.

No Lock-In
You can export your private keys and use them in other FairCoin clients.

No Downtime
Electrum servers are decentralized and redundant. Your wallet is never down.

Proof Checking
Electrum Wallet verifies all the transactions in your history using SPV.

Cold Storage
Keep your private keys offline, and go online with a watching-only wallet.

Multisig
Split the permission to spend your coins between several wallets.

Add-ons
Electrum supports third-party plugins: Multisig services, Hardware wallets, etc.

This technical innovation moves FairCoin forward just another step and especially promotes the forthcoming FairCoin week: https://use.fair-coin.org/

Have fun with it: https://electrum.fair-coin.org/

With the current work and efforts being put into the FAIR economy and the successes that have already been achieved, it really amazes me that there are still people dumping FAIR in Bittrex.
Unfortunately, we can only start growing again once all the dumpers have dumped their coins into the hands of long term investors and believers in the FAIR economy.
To speed up this process, we really need volume.
The good thing about volume is that the process of moving the coins from people without faith to people with faith goes much quicker.
Therefore again, I believe we need to lower the price in GetFairCoin to create more volume.
Also with the FAIR week coming up we need buy and sell prices that match. If they are currently lower than what we would like then so be it for the moment. It will rise in the future, but for now we need to adjust accordingly is my believe.
My opinion at least  Wink

strong hands can change to weak hands if you lower the price in getfaircoin as your wish
getfaircoin is good tool to stable the price...the market is very unstable Especially in such a low marketcap coin.
getfaircoin is not only a tool to buy faircoin. it's also a tools to guide people what the correct price of fair is(would be).and it's a tool to stable the price.
the price in bittrex is not the correct price of fair,it's can be easily  Influences by a small buy or small sell.i say small that means you only need to sell 200K fair or buy 20BTC,the price would be half ,or be double.
so i dont think the price on bittrex is the correct price of fair.

Yes, Mandy, you nailed it.

The price on BitTrex does not reflect the current value of FairCoin. The value of a currency is determined by it's usage. At the moment bot are straining the price and every time I refund coins from the recovery block the price goes down for the next couple of days, depending on the amount that I refund.

Conclusion: regardless of the price on any exchange, FairCoin is gaining more and more value day by days, because many people are involved and work hard to drive development further.

Next to other points the selling might also have to do with the intention to remove POS from this Coin.

I never understood at first place why you choose a POS coin since I too see POS as an unhealthy thing when it comes to financial fairness and equality however my longtime investment plan in this coin is to a significant part driven through that POS.

Getting right of it simple means that I and maybe others have to change to other coins. I didn't sell any of my FairCoins however I asume that a part of the selling we have seen is because of the reduction in longtime attractivness.

I know that this Coin will still grow in value however that grow is not something you can plan and that makes it troublesome for investments.

To all worry about the price drop. We are still in good waters. From past obeservations coins that rose very heavy fall often back to about 30% of its peak and that is where we are now.

I too wonder who is actually really selling if it's still one or more ppl from the early distribution or some that bought the last weeks and forced the a bit unhealthy strong rise.

We've chosen FairCoin primarily for its name and not for its technical specification. Besides that there was no real alternative to PoS and PoW.

Our new PoC concept however will remove the unfair consensus system and replaces it with cooperation instead of competition. I really believe this will be a beautiful moment when we finally see proof-of-cooperation running and thus brining back a human quality to a currency whilst others try so hard to remove it. And we still retain the same level of security (if not even better) and predicable, stable block time of 3 minutes. To be clear this is not a target time, blocks will be created every tree minutes, if transactions are pending for confirmation.

Besides this, I'm really happy to see the Electrum wallet for FairCoin growing and reaching a stable state which allows me to release it soon. It is really exiting to see how simply and seamlessly multi-signature functionality is implemented. It's really fun to work with it.

Also the Android wallet for FairCoin is very popular with over 200 installations on devices all over the world. An easy to use and fast mobile wallet.

Not only does FairCoin make big steps for real live usage (FairCoop, chip-chap, betabank, coopshares, bitbill and others) but also from a technical point of view the FairCoin infrastructure is very sound and works flawlessly and will continue to do so!

Regarding the current market trend I really see no reason to not staying optimistic. Such volatility is a logical consequence of low volume and tiny order book. This means that if there is a high or a low 'last price' on bittrex it doesn't really mean that much. The real value of FairCoin is defined by the people that actually use it, trust it and contribute to it, but not by a market with a tiny order book and volume.

Next time you see major price changes on bittrex don't overestimate them regardless of their direction. Look at the efforts and the real work many people voluntarily contribute to reach or goal and vision: building tools to enable everyone to participate in a fair economy on a global scale. More and more people join in every week and discuss and decide about our next steps to let our common vision become reality, piece by piece.

Thanks for reading! Smiley

calculate how many coins you can mint its simple:

coin amount / 100 x 3 = yearly minting

50000 FAIR can become 51500 after a year at 3%, on february 2 of 2016 minting reward half to 1,5%.

to calculate minting reward on age base:

yearly minting / 365 x age of transaction =  age base minting

50000 FAIR can mint after 21 days 86 FAIR

Probability is related to many factors:

amount of coins, age of transaction and minting difficulty you can check here for difficulty

https://chain.fair-coin.org/rt/connected-nodes.html

many open wallets means more competition and higher difficulty, the more days pass higher is probability until you reach the maximum weight after 90 days.

Thanks Jack for the good explanation. I'd only add that we'll never reach the 1.5% reward phase, because there will be no minting (=staking ) any more in FairCoin 2.0.
