1  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: April 28, 2014, 05:07:43 PM
I actually wrote an article on this a while back. Overall, I think both options would be great long term investments for different reasons. Both have their risks and benefits over the other, but both are also likely to rise in value over time.

If you're interested, here is a link to the article.
2  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Using Bitcoin to have your voice taken seriously? on: April 28, 2014, 04:31:04 PM
I do agree that money can make one's opinion appear to be more valid. However, this website isn't the answer. First of all, almost no one will view it. I can post something on Twitter or Facebook and reach a wider audience who will take it seriously for free.

I'm sure the developer is happy with the money he's getting, though.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][IPO][A3C] A3coin | ★★The real free coin ★★ | 100% Pure PoS | Fair on: April 28, 2014, 03:34:10 AM
You'd have to be an absolute fool to fall for this. I've seen a lot of scam attempts on this forum, but this has got to be near the top of the list.

83.5% IPO
Account owner has less than 5 activity.
Thread isn't even in proper English.
Little to no information about the coin.

Really? I wouldn't be surprised if the wallet was backdoored.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][OC] Orangecoin - Limited POW Distribution Starts in 3 Hours. on: April 27, 2014, 03:46:32 PM
I don't see any real advantage of this over any of the other scrypt-clones.

Funny how these comments appear on every coin ANN thread.

The goal for the large majority of new coins is to MAKE MONEY and nothing else, don't be delusional.

I guess you're right. Instead of people focusing on releasing coins that could push cryptocurrency forward, we're instead focusing on profiting off of other people's stupidity. After all, there's nothing to back all of these altcoins except for other people's ambition that it will rise in price.

Business as usual I guess.

6  Economy / Speculation / Re: $300 or $800 next? on: March 27, 2014, 03:30:26 PM
The scary thing is that anything is possible at this point. The announcement of the IRS taxing Bitcoin has already caused it to fall 11% in the past 24 hours, one of the biggest drops since the Mt. Gox incident. If something similar were to happen again now, I could certainly see it going under $300.

However that's quite unlikely. A lot of people have buy orders in the $400 range, including myself. I think Bitcoin will slowly recover and continue to rise. I certainly wouldn't be selling right now.

My vote goes for $800.
7  Economy / Economics / Re: The solution is obvious on: March 27, 2014, 03:20:52 PM
Well, I can most certainly say this will never happen.

While you're right in the sense that people like to say they have a whole of something rather than a piece of something, it's far too late to make such a drastic change to Bitcoin. Although I do think this is part of the reason Litecoin will eventually become very popular, perhaps even more popular than Bitcoin for everyday purchases (and the faster transaction times certainly help as well).
8  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: *BREAKING NEWS* MT GOX OFFICIALLY FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY *-* on: February 28, 2014, 09:44:42 PM
No surprise here, it was only a matter of time before they filed for bankruptcy protection. I think we all saw this coming.

All I can say is that they are very lucky they are located in Japan, and not in the United States. There would be way more lawsuits if they were located there.
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies, stay away from altcoins. please on: February 28, 2014, 09:06:24 PM
So what makes BTC and LTC better than anything else?  OP states they are both "better supported"....well, going off that, if another alt is "better supported" wouldnt it overtake BTC/LTC?

Its like saying you should only buy gold or silver, but not diamonds, rubies, emeralds, or oil futures or apple stock.  they're currencies and will be worth whatever the market provides.

what about 42coin that is worth what 100x BTC?

The thing about the gold, silver, gems and stocks is that they are are relative to the dollar, in the same way that altcoins price directly correlate with Bitcoins price. Because altcoins are exchanged for Bitcoin rather than actual physical currency, the price of altcoins will always be dependent on Bitcoin to succeed.

Of course, the amount of a Bitcoin each altcoin is worth is dependent on other factors, such as popularity and acceptance. The reason 42coin is worthless to mine is that it has neither of those two - sure it's worth a lot, but its far more profitable to mine something such as Dogecoin.
10  Economy / Speculation / Re: WhatsApp bought for US$ 19 Billion on: February 20, 2014, 05:51:14 PM
Instant messaging service valued at US$ 19 billion

Universal secure p2p programmable digital currency valued at US$ 7 billion

It makes you wonder .....

WhatsApp is receiving 1 million new registrations everyday.

Bitcoin is still relatively unknown to the general public, not to mention Mt. Gox screwing up the price of Bitcoin. Cryptocurrency is still in its very early stages, it will only rise with time.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin, Energy Saving Coin With a Fast Distribution *6 Exchanges on: February 20, 2014, 05:33:07 PM
Even if this coin was premined, I don't think the developers have bad intentions. They've been giving a lot away, including 10,000 Mintcoin to everyone who liked their Facebook page.

I personally received 50,000 for writing an article on my website involving Mintcoin, that was a nice surprise  Smiley

I still agree that the address should be public though. Developers who want a coin to be taken seriously shouldn't be hiding anything at all.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Overlook Worldcoin (Update thread) on: February 14, 2014, 05:58:48 PM
Worldcoin is one of the few coins I actually have long term confidence for. It's important to know that every coin, every company will go through rough periods and it's completely normal to question whether or not it has long term sustainability, but you have to trust the Worldcoin developers and community will keep the coin alive.

So you created your account just to say this ?

No, I'm just a new user and wanted to add my opinion to the topic.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doge coin is bad on: February 13, 2014, 08:15:30 PM
Truth is, most of the altcoins created are just clones that don't really offer anything useful. The only real alternative to Bitcoin is Litecoin.

You're just singling out Dogecoin because it became popular. And speaking of popularity...

The popularity of Dogecoin has done wonders to increase awareness of cryptocurrency. For many people, Dogecoin was the first cryptocurrency they've heard of. As we know, any money system can only be successful if people use it - and Dogecoin has definitely made Bitcoin more popular. If you want a currency like Bitcoin to become accepted globally, the general public has to be familiarized with it.

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Time to dump miners? on: February 13, 2014, 07:42:41 PM
I really hope this is sarcasm.

You understand the miners are what brings coins into the market, right? Often times, it's not even the most profitable option, the miners sell to the investors who end up making the most profit of all.

The thing about PoS is that the early miners/investors will generally be the ones that make the most amount of money in the long run anyway, because they're the ones who got a ton of coins while they were cheap, hence why Mintcoin is one of the best long term investments right now.

The internet is capitalistic, and although it's good for coins to be spread out and used by many people, if people want coins, they can buy them from the miners.
16  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: what mine to get into:bitcoin,litecoin,etc??? on: February 13, 2014, 07:01:34 PM
As others have said, it isn't even worth it to mine Bitcoin anymore unless you have a huge setup. Most people trying to mine wouldn't even be able to cover the cost of power.

It is far more profitable to mine altcoins and exchange them for BTC.
