1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whale on: May 01, 2020, 02:05:59 PM
I often heard this word, whales. What is whales term on cryptocurrency? How does it affect the price of one coin?in what way?

Usually this is someone who can single handed change the bitcoin price by setting long and shorts positions usually at different exchanges and therefor move the price of BTC more that 10 %

Ex 1) there are short positions on Bitmex that might expire of the amount of 100mUSD in a day and a Whale by moving the BTC price can "crash" those positions with a huge order that will render those positions worthless.

Simultaneously he might have other positions at other exchanges that will trigger the "bot" trading army to panic sell or buy.

Therefor a whale by definition is someone who can single handed make big "waves" on the price by making the price go up or down at will.

There are many thesis what amount a whale need to have in order to create those "waves" but in reality it is really how many sell/buy orders there are on the markse so that he can "trick" sellers with a fake "sell wall" and creating panic and simultaneously buy those who panic sell.

A famous Bitmex Whale is JOE007, you can find him on twitter.

Hope this clears some of the smoke

2  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for Bitcoin - Crypto - Blockchain writers on: May 01, 2020, 01:57:25 PM
Hey everyone,

We are looking for part-time writers in cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, and or blockchain space.

I run this site (http://gocryptowise.com/) that writes mostly guides and column pieces about this space. And I want to see if there are writers (seasoned or new ones just starting out) that want to write some articles from time to time on our site?

What we are looking for
People that want to write about topic in this space, we are open for good content in general. But we are not a news sites. Meaning we are not looking for writers that write about the ups and downs and crypto events on a daily basis.
We are more looking for educational, technical, financial pieces. They can be in short-form or longer articles. They can be for beginners learning about how it works, or more in-depth articles really going in for a more experienced reader.

What we can offer
Money of course... We really don't have a big budget but of course we will pay you for the job. We can talk about rates but we at this time are not making lots to pay writers like CCN, Coindesk, and the others might.
Perhaps we can offer you a chance? A chance to get started? A chance to write what you really want to write about. Get heard, noticed, experience, etc?

Next steps?
Contact me via PM and let me know a bit about yourself, what you would be interested in writing about and an estimate of your rates?

Thanks

What is your reach, number of visits, uniqe visitors etc

5  Local / Барахолка / Re: 5000 BTC wallet.dat on: April 16, 2020, 10:10:26 AM

7  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Merging two encrypted wallet.dat files on: April 12, 2020, 01:43:45 PM
I have a technical question.

A wallet is protected by a password, which encrypts the key.

Is it possible to "merge" two encrypted wallets into one and have a completely new database, if they are encrypted with the same password?

Is there any paper on how the encryption works?

First you would need to know if the DB is same version, otherwise you would need to convert it yourself.

This is possible in blockchain.com wallets (to have multiple xpriv) but as someone said above, it would probably mean you would break backward compatibility and would have your own custom bitcoin core version not readable by other versions.

We updated the demo online with new features:
- Choosing extension allowed for upload
- Upload multiple files
- Release payments from admin panel instead of sending automatically the payment to the seller, so you can offer a refund in case of scammers.

Price will stay 200$ for now.

I have sent you a PM and also an email message.
I am interested but i need to ask you some questions directly.
So let me know your skype id or telegram and we will chat.

Thanx

We didn't received your email.

Here is it again:
info@progweb.info

Ask us as many questions as you want.

Thank you

Do you have a demo somewhere, and can I run it from a local bitcoin node instead of blocktrail?

What about future updates?

How much do you charge for support?

thanks

11  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info from 2015 on: April 08, 2020, 08:20:20 PM
Good day.

I have a wallet from blockchain.info which is version 2. The wallet is decrypted.

I have a technical question regarding the xpriv.

Blockchain uses two different xpriv in there wallet backups, one after the 2016 upgrade to v3 and one xpriv from the old wallet.

Is it possible to generate addresses from the v2 xpriv? Or how was that done?

Any source?

Also, does anyone know if blockchain.info used 12 words pre 2016 upgrade?

thank you

koch

You can use a java tool on Github for this.

https://github.com/blockchain/my-wallet-backup-decryption-tool

This tool did not read the wallet correctly...

Is anyone from blockchain.com contactable here? Their technical support is mostly replying with bots.
12  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain Watch Only on: April 08, 2020, 07:48:30 AM
I wonder what they do with all lost 2FA accounts in their database
It is a buggy wallet, continuing to use it means losing those currencies as there are a lot of historical incidents[1] that have proven that they are not interested in developing the code[2] and thus they expose customer money to loss without compensation.
It is best to avoid them and use open source wallets, no one will force you to use them.
In addition, you cannot prove that they cannot access your money. You need to trust them.

[1] @johoe return 870 BTC to the owners (Blockchain.info)

15  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: JAXX liberty on iphone question on: March 30, 2020, 09:36:39 AM
Which data are you looking for? The 12 words is all you need to restore your funds. Just make sure to write them on a piece of paper and hide them somewhere safe.

Not the 12 words, that i know. What i mean the encrypted wallet data in json format which is possinle to export.

Im interest to know where that file/data is stored.
16  Bitcoin / Wallet software / JAXX liberty on iphone question on: March 30, 2020, 07:38:56 AM
Where does JAXX store my data on the phone, is it possible to manually backup the data or should I use icloud?
17  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain Watch Only on: March 28, 2020, 07:40:57 AM
That I know, thanks. Why I wanted this is I have the wallet encrypted and dont want to bother trying to find the password if the wallet is empty. lazy I guess...

when you have a wallet with a third party (blockchain.com web wallet) then things such as a wallet-id are only defined internally in their service. so your only option is to go to the same centralized third party and use their services to get whatever you want (addresses, balances, private keys, create transactions,...).

I wonder what they do with all lost 2FA accounts in their database
18  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The call for Julian Assange || The WikiLeaks Manifesto - We all should read it on: February 27, 2020, 08:26:12 AM
The whole thing is to silence journalism and Assange is a scapegoat. The deep state wants to punish him for telling the truth.
19  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC transfer issue in Electrum - Help me understand what happened? on: February 27, 2020, 08:24:13 AM
I am not very experienced and now, something has happened that I don't understand. I hope somebody can help me understand what happened:

Somebody was going to pay me, on an Receive address generated by Electrum. (This was a purchase Local Bitcoin Exchange, and the receipt of his payment was delayed at his end. I cancelled the trade, when I hadn't received the BTC during the allocated time on Local Bitcoin Exchange. This was a mistake by me, of course

The guy said he'd send me the BTC anyway, assuming the payment arrived.
So I pasted the Receiving address from Electrum in the chat, on Local Bitcoin Exchange.
I closed down the computer that Electrum is running on and went to bed.
This morning, the guy (who is in South America while I am in Europe), had pinged me.
He said he sent to outstanding BTC to the address I gave.
However, the money has not arrived.

I realise that he could be lying, but he is a top rated trader of high volumes on Local Bitcoin Exchange. Let's assume he was honest for the time being.

  • When I open Electrum this morning, the Receiving address is something different than it was before! Why?
  • Is the Receiving address I gave him yesterday no longer valid now?
  • Electrum wasn't open when he presumably sent the payment. Is that a problem for receiving it?

What has happened here, from the BTC / Blockchain / Electrum perspective?  [/b]

(I realise this is my mistake for cancelling the trade, instead of Disputing - it was late and I was very tired, not thinking clearly and got stressed. I understand that the guy might have lied or otherwise tricked me, in using such a slow method of tranfer, so please advise me only on the Technical aspect of this - worst case: I paid EUR 550 to learn this lesson.)

You simply ask him for the TX id generated by Electrum or send you a screengrab of his wallet with the outgoing transaction.

Three reasons could happend;

1) he sent to wrong address
2) he didnt send it, scammed you
3) he used a low value of satoshi/kb and is in mempool, but it still should show in electrum wallet as unconfirmed
20  Economy / Web Wallets / Blockchain.com ID format question on: February 11, 2020, 12:25:34 PM
Is there a way to determinate how a blockchain.com wallet ID is generated or check if its valid?

Are there any info to learn more?
