1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Diminishing Hash Rate Over Time on: January 13, 2022, 01:14:50 AM
great thank you for your help. High performance mode is enabled. Something must still be happening that occasionally the TMAX will get high every few days and cause the machine to restart. Will see if that still happens now that I have done the aging.

After the aging process completed and I wait a few more hours, the hashrate is up to 77TH/s. It seems that the aging did do some good work. As for your suggestion of running the fan speed in the 80-90% range to see if it will run stable for long, if I notice the chip temps dropping below 60 should I end the experiment? I fear that this will keep the chips on average too cool. Seeking your opinion before executing the experiment. I don't believe the ASIC has toggled off of the performance mode before but I also haven't checked to make sure, my only evidence is that in the nomral mode it will hash in the 50TH/s range and in high performance above 70TH/s. At no point did the ASIC ever hash consistently in the 50s, except for the few hours during the aging process. Here are some current logs:

Linked image of a graph showing hash over time and how it dropped down.

https://i.imgur.com/E4wQKbS.png

I see the ADJ field in the logs has a value of 0 which the manual indicates means aging is in progress. Perhaps this hash behavior is a result of the process? Any idea how long aging takes to complete?

update: ADJ[2] now shows indicating aging finished. Do I need to do a restart or do I let her keep running? Hashrate now up to 71 TH/s (still low)

Ok I installed and ran the aging tool. Now may hashrate is diminishing rapidly. Within 10 mins of reboot it got up to 76 TH/s then over the next 20 mins declined down to 68 TH/s. Fan running at a constant 51% with temps steady between 63 and 68 degrees. Any thoughts on cause or action to take?
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Diminishing Hash Rate Over Time on: January 06, 2022, 05:36:55 AM
If the logs you have are still the same as your previous logs above then I suspected that some chip temp is fluctuating above 85c. Since you have a large number of HW or hardware errors some chips are overheating and the hashboard will automatically disconnect if it happens then you will get ECMM[4] because it's disconnected automatically for protection and it will attempt to restart.

Another thing that I noticed from your previous logs is that the fan speed is not stable.
What I would like to suggest is to try to set the fan speed to at least 80% or 90% and let see if it will run stable for long. Just try even you have low room temp.

To set the fan speed you must have the FMS tool and then go to diagnostic and put this command below

Code:
[b][{"command":"ascset","parameter":"0,fan-spd,90"}] [/b]

Fan-spd,90 it's a fan speed with 90% you can replace it with 80% or 100% to try if it fixes the issue.

Another solution that I would like you to try is to use the aging you can find it on the FMS tool along with the Diagnose it can calibrate all ASIC chips.

I got FMS installed. You suggested using aging which I do not see in the tool (I have tried V2.3.3 and V2.1.0). Do you know where I can find a list of commands or manual to know how to make the commands for the diagnose console? Doesnt seem to be in their manual. Thank you.

Interesting. I will have to get a Windows machine in order to get FMS running. Likely a weekend project. The ran speed is and has been always fluctuating up and down about every 30 seconds or so. The rooms ambient air is in the 80 degree Fahrenheit range but the machine is drawing outside cool air under 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I would like to get FMS going and set a fixed fan speed.

Been a few weeks since I last updated here. I have not yet taken the machine apart to ensure all wire connections are snug and screws tightened. Since then I have notice the miner still restarting itself about once every 3 days, even in cold easter (<50 degrees F). Today for the first time it turned off and simple did not restart itself. I had to manually unplug and replug it. Looking at the logs the ECMM[4] is still showing and this error code is not documented in their manual. Additionally I noticed the HW code frequesntly changing with values ranging from 97 to 119 for the few minutes I monitored the logs. The number only increased over time. The manual simple says HW means Hardware Error but provides no guidance on the codes.

If anyone has any idea what is going on here please do advise. Thank you.

perfect thank you. Do you suggest I just un-plug and replug the ribbon cable, tighten any screws on the MM board, and ensure the hashboards are slotted in well again? Anything else?
9  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Diminishing Hash Rate Over Time on: December 15, 2021, 09:05:42 PM
I'm not sure what MMboard stands for or even which part of the miner that is. Internet searching hasn't been helpful for this term unfortuantely.
10  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Diminishing Hash Rate Over Time on: December 15, 2021, 08:53:39 PM
The ECMM gives you a number 4
(Error Code MM board).

Maybe the MM board (control board) is loosely connected to the hash boards?
Or maybe the MM board is damaged?

Do you have another MM board to try?

Reading the doc on ECMM:
Quote
When ECMM
  • , it means that the MM board is in normal state. When ECMM [1], it means that the MM board may have problems, or it may have poor contact with the hash board. The specific problem of the hash board can be judged by the value returned below. When Echu displays 0 or 512, it means normal. If Echu displays 513, it means abnormal.
What does 4 mean here? Seems like not specified? I don;t have any extra spare parts

Have you tried to reboot the miner? Let see if it could fix the issue.

If not then post the API logs here and don't forget to put them on the "insert tag" with a # icon or use pastebin.com and paste the URL here.

The hashboard temp sensor is different so maybe we can see the real temp of the chip under PVT_T0, T1, T2, and maybe one of the chips is overheating that cause this issue?

Here are the logs. In fact as I am typing this up my miner just restarted its self. It seems to do this ~1x per week, unclear why. This time was <4 days. These are the logs minutes before it just restarted.

12  Bitcoin / Mining support / Diminishing Hash Rate Over Time on: December 15, 2021, 03:54:38 PM
Hello all

Have a Canaan AvalonMiner 1166 Pro that has been losing about ~0.1TH/s per day. The boards are not overheating (62° C, 65° C, 67° C,), and the fan speeds remain under 60% (~4500 RPM). These temperature/fan-speed conditions have remained fairly constant for over a month but now the hash rate seems to be slowly but consistently decreasing. I am not clear as to what could be causing this behavior. The ASIC was advertised to get 81 TH/s, but really never performed above 79 TH/s when I first got it. For months it performed in the 76-78 range and now is around 73.6 TH/s and decreasing with each passing day.

Any thoughts? Actions I can take? Should the boards vary that much in temperature?

Thank you

I have also considered using 10"x6"x6" register boxes on the intake side instead, and this would cover just the fans (plus a small gap to the side that I would shut with foil tape). I would add holes in the cooler lined up with the PSU intake vents that I would fill with PVC piping to allow intake air to the PSU. This would allow me to not need a 8" to 6" reducer on the intake side. I am not sure how long the 10"x6"x6" register boxes measure, but if we assume it is the same size as the 10"x10"x8" register boxes then that makes it also 6.5" and reduces the total size of this enclosure to be ~31.5"

Hello all I have an Canaan Avalonminer 1166 Pro that is quite noisy and I would like to put into an enclosure. Their site has reference pics: https://canaan.io/product/avalonminer-1166-pro and here is another pic that shows the awkward shape: https://imgur.com/a/O3J89BQ

Given that this ASIC has the 2 fans stacked on each other (compared to other ASICs like the S9 which only has the one fan on each side) it has made designing an enclosure much more difficult. Whatever I encase it in, one end needs to vent to a 6" duct for the exhaust to escape out a window. I have not found a great way to fit this awkwardly shaped miner into an enclosure such that all the fans and PSU have proper intake/exhaust handling. Given that theres the stacked fans and the offset PSU, no longer can one just secure a duct directly to the fan. I have looked into using a register box (https://imgur.com/a/x66QBte) that is 10" x 10" to 8" but given the awkward dimensions this is not a perfect fit as it does not fully surround the height of the miner but can surround its width (with a gap between the miner and register box). Using foil tape I could seal off any cap between the register box and miner. Janky, but can be done. With the goal of noise reduction, ideally the enclosure does not have 8" circular holes on both sides for intake/exhaust as that would likely let out a lot of the noise I am trying to contain. Perhaps an 8"to 6" reducer duct would help as it would decrease the size of the holes in the enclosure.

Here is a mockup of the design I am explaining here: https://imgur.com/a/az4KaUi

I calculate the total length of this to be ~40" since each reducer is 8.5" when connected to the register box which is 6.5" when connected to the miner which is 10". This size unfortunately exceeds the size of most coolers that one could buy at a store or online and thus building a custom enclosure may be necessary. I have found coolers big enough that would allow for the design provided minus the intake 8" to 6" reducer, which gives me enough room but leaves me with a big 8" hole in the cooler in the intake side.

I was hoping anyone here has ideas, suggestions, or can point me to how people tackled this dual fan problem in an enclosure.

Received delivery of my Avalonminer 1166 Pro today. I was expecting a new unit but it came pretty dirty so I feel pretty confident it was used. The exhaust fan plugs seem to move in and out a bit but I am not sure if that will make a difference. I have not yet run the machine, the power cable arrives tomorrow.

Is it pretty common for "new" machines to come in this condition? Maybe this is Canaan specific?

thank you.

The male end of the cord is L6-20P which means it should go with L6-30R?

The breaker is a double pole, each with 20A

cooler minds prevailed. Waiting on a NEMA L6-20P to C19 cable to be delivered. I need to swap out the outlet from a NEMA 6-30. Does it also need to be a NEMA L6-30 or would a NEMA L6-20 suffice? Does the power cable need to be L6-30 as opposed to L6-20 (the one I ordered)?

I like your 6-30P to the C19 idea it is just hard to find just the 6-30P alone without it being an extension cord.

A C19 connector seems to use 3 different wires: a hot a neutral and a ground. The 6-30 as I understand it is two hots and a ground. Am I mistaken here? Which wire then would pair with which?

given the essence of time, I will be getting the amazon linked cable (c19) and will hope my local hardware store has the 6-30 cable. No one seems to sell just the 6-30 plug thats not the locking type. Any idea if the two wires linked are safe to connect to one another? One is 10 awg (the NEMA 6-30 cable) and the C19 cable is 12 awg.
