1  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Minefield.Zone: The Million Dollar Homepage + /r/place + mining pool on: August 06, 2020, 11:59:57 PM
Yet two more new things:
  • Clicking on cheatcode-type links in 32x32 images now automatically gives you 25px without the need to re-register. Also, if you were to ask me for a cheatcode, you will be able to just apply it to the account you are logged in already by filling corresponding field in '⚙' dialog
  • It is also now possible to save and load auto templates in the same '⚙' menu. Currently they are being saved as JSON files, ability to load/save images is not there yet and won't be for quite some time
At this point it is becoming obvious that 15-year-old gimmick, even if infused with a few more recent ideas, won't raise from the grave by itself.
Therefore, i will have to start paying people who use it. To do that in a meaningful way, however, i will have to make some modifications to the projects core, so there won't be any meaningful changes for at least a week.

Two more new things:
  • It now works on touchscreen devies! Sort of. You can only view the canvas, placing will have to be done from the desktop. There is a blinking cursor-type pixel, which you can drag and/or place on the pixel you are interested in.
  • On desktop registration and logging in is now performed automatically, so the moment you visit the site, you can start placing your free 24 pixels

Two new things:
  • 1. Every new user receives 24 pixels for free, assuming that nobody else from the same IP (ipv4 only) address created an account within the last 6 hours
  • 2. There are three new 32x32 sprites on the canvas: (1089, 596), (876, 809), (302, 954) Within each one of these sprites, there are 32 'cheatcode' type links to the minefield.zone - if you were to follow them and then create a new user, this user will receive 25 pixels upon registration even if this IP was already used.

Just to be clear, we can actually use images like other "million-dollar pages" or we're limited to colored pixels only?
Currently you are limited to pixels, but you can define a set of those in "AUTO" mode, and interface will place them on canvas the moment you mine the pixels. Ability to save/load those (as JSON documents, and later as PNGs) is coming, but it is not there yet.

You might want to consider the following things: Increase your placement rule to a few hrs [at least].
In that case someone who keeps mining will get an enormous head-start, and user that recently joined most likely won't have the patience to wait till he mines enough to make any kind of a difference. He can place his pixels in the places that are not used, of course, but in that case someone who accumulated a lot of pixels will have an opportunity to completely obliterate the newcomer, and, again, he is very unlikely to have the patience to wait till the balance is tilted in his favour.
I do want to encourage people to keep mining, of course, but for now i think that 10 minute rule gives them a lot of head-start already: even my pathetic little i5-3210M is able to accumulate 10 PX on average.

Change the other rule to somehow guarantee each pixel to be overwritten only after a certain amount of time has passed.
TL;DR: I want to drive people to the billboard by giving them an opportunity to throw tomatoes at ads they dont like. Implementing this suggestion will interfere with that, unfortunately.
The only way this project will work, in my opinion, is if users are able to compete and collaborate with each other the same way they did on /r/place or plxs.space: otherwise, there will be no incentive to come back to the page, and, therefore, no views => no clicks => no mining. Ability to overwrite someone else's pixel, even if for a fraction of a second, is essential: it gives player a sense of progress and allows him to experience a sense of gratification.

With all of that being said, it becomes increasingly obvious that for some weird reason i personally cannot fathom, people don't want to spend their time and effort to set up mining on their machines so that they can place pixels on canvas nobody is currently watching/playing on. Who knew, right?

So i think i will push template save/load a little bit further into the future and start making giveaways instead: by following specifically crafted link users will be able to get themselves, say, 99 pixels for free upon registration. Might also add some referral-program-like features to that. Will update the first post and write to the telegram channel when i am done with it.

Yes, this is yet another Million Dollar Homepage crypto ripoff. In 2020, no less.
It doesn't just rip off million dollar hompage, though. It also mixes in a few ideas from /r/place and mining pools.

Link to the project: https://minefield.zone
Description and user guide: https://minefield.zone/description.html
Telegram channel for news about the project: https://t.me/minefield_zone

This is how it works:
  • Just like on the million dollar hompage, you can fill the screen (1920x1080 this time) with your own pixels, and assign labels and links to them.
  • Just like on the /r/place, you can place a single pixel, and you can replace other people pixels
  • And you acquire those pixels by mining them on the project's mining pool: you are mining monero on my behalf using your user id as login, and for every share your miner finds you receive one pixel. Right now difficulty is set to 36000, which on 8-year-old i5-3210M gives approximately one pixel per minute.

It should be noted, though, that there is one difference from the original projects: pixels that are not placed on canvas expire. If you mined a pixel and didn't place it within (currently) 10 minutes after that, it will disappear.

Note that all of this is very, very beta.
Next update will give users an option to win a small prize for using the project. I have not decided yet how exactly it would work, but once i do and implement it - i'll ask the moderators to move the topic into the corresponding subsection of the form.

And since half of previous attempts to do the same thing proclaimed some kind of change-the-world-raise-awareness-feel-good goal, i will do that as well:
I want to live in a world where anyone who wishes to get himself a fan to throw poop on, was able to do so.
Provided that he has enough processing power to do that, of course.

If you have any questions that you want to ask me personally, or just want to get yourself some free pixels, you can PM me or send an e-mail here.

31.07.2020 update:

07.08.2020: Or you can just click on them and receive you free pixels right away :-)
