1  Other / Off-topic / Re: How, in the end, do you think the world will end? on: May 04, 2014, 11:06:28 PM
Seeing how things are going right now, i'd guess that either nuclear warfare+winter or yellowstone erupting does us in

note: for this substitute "world" with "all of humanity"

The only thing we know for sure, is that the sun will engulf Earth, and the inner Solar System in a inferno in a couple billion years.

However, Thermonuclear Global War, Yellowstone, or Crustal Displacement (explains all the intensifying earthquakes) will do us in.

However, the main reason I "got out", is that nearly everything they "created" was either bought, borrowed, or stolen. (http://thumbnails.visually.netdna-cdn.com/apple-they-didnt-build-that--ideas-apple-bought-borrowed-and-stole_5093d2032a729.jpg)

I didn't know about this..  Shocked

I didn't either until I found it via an "Apple Sucks" search. Needless to say, that was the main reason I got out. I didn't want to keep supporting a company whose products really aren't they're creation. I didn't also want to continue support greedy control freaks.

Nice PC there, stay away from apple.

Thanks! When I get my Amazon FireTV with a Prime subscription, I'll be ready to dump Apple TV. When compared to FireTV with Prime, the FireTV w/ Prime beats the shit out of ATV. Even the specs (dedicated GPU!) beat the ATV, and you can get it for $99, the price of an Apple TV. (which just goes to show how cheap Apple is.)
3  Other / Off-topic / Re: My New PC :) on: May 03, 2014, 02:32:19 AM
Thanks for all the replies.

I would have built one, but I needed a new computer right now. My Mac was getting ready to bite the dust, and that I'm one of the few who actually like touch screen monitors. Another reason are the USB ports that are built right in. I do still use a mouse and keyboard though as my primary input.

I'll probably build my next one though Wink

The main reason I went with the S5 was because of the UHD video recording; I'm planning to replace my HDTV (from 08) with an UHDTV, thus I wanted any videos I record NOW to take advantage of my new TV Smiley
4  Other / Off-topic / My New PC :) on: May 02, 2014, 08:52:37 PM
Yesterday, I bought myself a new PC; It's an Acer Aspire T and I also got the touch-enabled monitor, which is 23". I also picked up a Galaxy S5 which is even better than the Nexus 5. To my surprise, I don't mind the "plastic" back.

I am so glad that I am out of the Apple ecosystem as they're products are way too much overpriced and not up gradable. Not to mention they're absolute control freaks that can't stand innovation. (They seriously think that an cylinder Mac Pro without an SD slot is innovation and revolutionary? Try again, Apple. However, the main reason I "got out", is that nearly everything they "created" was either bought, borrowed, or stolen. (http://thumbnails.visually.netdna-cdn.com/apple-they-didnt-build-that--ideas-apple-bought-borrowed-and-stole_5093d2032a729.jpg) Of course, on Apple sites the comments are "oh, that's flawed" and other brainwashing BS.

Thanks to the community for waking me up!
5  Economy / Goods / Just shopping around: Have multiple devices for sale. on: April 27, 2014, 09:49:04 PM
I'm wanting to purchase a GS5 from BB this month, and would like to sell some of the devices that I already have. I am just shopping around for what you would pay for them. I currently have a Nexus 7 2013 Edition with 32GB of storage along with a Nexus 5 and same amount of storage as the 7. Note that I am not listing these for sale, I'm just "shopping around" for the current market price.

Thanks.
6  Other / Off-topic / Ubuntu 14.04: An improvement like day and night. on: April 22, 2014, 08:22:58 AM
I just installed Ubuntu yesterday on my iMac, and my god, it went from a nightmare to use to faster than OS X and Windows on the same machine. Everything about Ubuntu is faster. I can now have multiple apps open, and the dashboard doesn't freeze up anymore. (That was a show stopper).

I have made the decision to completely dump Apple and will be purchasing a System76 PC. I'm waiting to see the new Ratel Performance available on 4/29.

I may even pickup an unlocked Galaxy S5 with the money I'll have saved by not purchasing an overpriced Apple product. (Unlocked is the way to go!)
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another reason bitcoin will succeed: US to target Putin's $40 billion stash on: April 22, 2014, 08:04:43 AM
Seriously? The US does anything it wants without repercussions. Instead of targeting foreigners (whoever they may be), uh, maybe legalize and tax marijuana and gambling and watch the billions roll in?
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin & Fax machines - Doomed to fail! on: April 18, 2014, 06:39:02 AM
This is such a riot!

http://wallstcheatsheet.com/stocks/10-once-thriving-products-doomed-to-fail.html/10/?ref=OB

This article lumps Bitcoin in with once thriving but doomed to fail technologies like Land Line, Fax Machines and PC's!

This is too awesome to pass up reading.

I love this one: "the main use for Bitcoins is said to be the illegal and anonymous purchasing of drugs and weapons". And the author's beloved cash isn't?
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Journalists are total buffoons on: April 14, 2014, 07:33:02 AM
They don't understand this stuff...  so they just make up a bunch of crap.

For the uninitiated, Bitcoin “mining” is the process that creates Bitcoin by solving a complex mathematical equation through the use of specialized computers. Bitcoin miners work together on a global peer-to-peer network, logging onto a central website, where they attempt to break the code protecting the Bitcoin database. The first Bitcoin miner to solve the current equation brings home the bacon.

Every time the code is broken, the Bitcoin system awards the Bitcoin miner that breaks the encryption code with a number of Bitcoin determined by the complexity of the code that was broken…and the system then adds more lines of code, making it more difficult to solve. In addition, the open source software that runs the Bitcoin system automatically upgrades the complexity of the encryption by another 10 percent every 10 days adding more lines of code to the equation that Bitcoin miners have to solve in order to earn more Bitcoin.

Alan Milner is a bozo.
http://guardianlv.com/2014/04/bitcoin-warning-signs-for-new-investors/

Could somebody please contact this guy and tell him he is not even close?

"solving a complex mathematical equation"
you don't 'solve' any equation and it is not complex.

"logging onto a central website"
They don't 'log on', and there is no central website.

"where they attempt to break the code protecting the Bitcoin database"
lol - what a dumbass.  There is no code protecting any database.  There is no database.

"adding more lines of code to the equation that Bitcoin miners have to solve"
Does he just make this shit up?  Lines of code are not added to any equation.

Why, oh why, are these idiots permitted to use the keyboard?  Haven't they any editorial oversight?  Pure garbage.  Journalism school is a raging joke.

If you think journalists are that stupid, then wait until you see one of the comments. For reference:

Quote from: Alanna: Even stupider than the journalist
Warning still sinking until the less than one percent start buying again but be careful. Even the Winklevoss brothers may realise bitcoin is a dead duck. Its on the nose for being a criminalcurrency so no-one decent wants to own it….work it out. Its on the way down. It wont unencrypt itself so is favoured by …you guessed it…crooks. Watch out it doesnt get hacked by…you guessed it…crooks.

Further more, if you visit her twitter, it just screams "Uneducated Dumbass".

Quote from: Alanna's Twitter
Bitcoin, Tor browser, online drug sites = expansion of the global drug trade. Curtail the activities of black market cash Bitcoin dealers

Wow. Seriously? Doesn't she even realize that there has been a drug trade powered by her "beloved cash" for DECADES?
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Apple Thread - I Admit Defeat. on: April 14, 2014, 07:03:05 AM
Anything is better than an apple product.

Yeah, especially if the user hates using the other product. (That's basically like telling me to use Android/Windows Phone even though I hate those OS's)

If users use Apple products, GET OVER IT. The time wasted by bashing people for the products they use can be spent on something better than bashing.

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Apple Thread - I Admit Defeat. on: April 14, 2014, 05:47:32 AM
With a screen name like yours, it'd seem you'd be a perfect fit for the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Seriously, try it.  It's pretty nice!   Cool

Eww, TouchWiz & Plastic?

Seriously though, I currently have a Nexus 5. While I love the device itself, Android is what I'm starting to not like. So no matter what Android phone comes my way, it'll have the same annoying OS.

I am a salesperson for Apple and frankly it makes no sense that a company like Apple is not more bitcoin friendly. Our core values are supposed to be about challenging the status quo and celebrating ingenuity. I can't say for sure but I believe if Steve Jobs were still around things might be bit different between Apple and the bitcoin movement.

Maybe they're trying to implement it as an API, that way everyone is (almost) happy. You just never know with Apple.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Apple Thread - I Admit Defeat. on: April 14, 2014, 04:27:31 AM
I used to love Apple.
A high quality prison is still a life in jail.

Wouldn't argue with that. iOS is a high quality prison, but to each their own.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / My Apple Thread - I Admit Defeat. on: April 14, 2014, 04:12:47 AM
I admit defeat with my thread war regarding AAPL and Bitcoin. After researching, I have come to the conclusion that AAPL is protecting their monopoly.

Just jotting this down, a prime example is PayPal. PayPal, in a number of countries is prohibited from operating, yet AAPL allows the PayPal app with full functionally in the app store. (Full functionally meaning the ability to pay in store, transfer, etc) However, the only reason AAPL allows this, is because both PayPal & AAPL make money from iTunes purchases, and both probably have a 'business contract' with one another.

However, as much as I despise this; that iOS is closed source; and how closed the Mac hardware is... I'll admit that I'll continue to be an iSheep.

I have tried Linux (Ubuntu), and Windows. Though I liked using Ubuntu, the one thing I missed was the quality, and quantity of apps. Sure there are open source apps, but replacing PixelMator? GFL finding a decent replacement. Don't say GIMP. I have used it and it's not a PixelMator replacement.

I had used Windows in the past, and decided to give it a whirl again. I instantly hated it. I guess even the thought of using Windows caused my instant hate. Another main "issue", is that I was indoctrinated when I was young, then when my first mac went, I had a PC. In 2008, I was indoctrinated again via the iPhone 3G, then the next year, I got my second Mac, which I'm still using today.

Hell, I even bought a Nexus 5 to use as a daily device to test Android. The first couple of months it was awesome. I loved being able to customize my home screen, and theme. However, then came seeing how fucking laggy some animations are. I pondered why a quad-core phone with 2GB of RAM would be laggy. My Nexus also has the screen dimming bug, where the screen dims even when using it. Next, is that damn annoying "BEEP!" when hanging up. I went to Google to find an answer. Nope, you need to root. Why does something so simple NEED A ROOT?

Libre office, free

iLife / iWork: Free.
OS X Upgrades: Free

Apple is fucking disgrace. All of the tech giants and social media are a fucking disgrace.

Why?

For the backdoors they created for N.o S.uch A.gency.

Fuck Apple

Yep, and your beloved Google / MS / Other doesn't, right? LMAO LMAO. You are fucking pathetic and so stupidly naive to think that Google / MS / Other don't sell your info and have backdoors. Hell, didn't Relient OS developers find a "backdoor" in the Galaxy line of phone and the Nexus One? Yep! They did. Wow, I wonder who uses it. Let me guess; some three letter ass hat office call the NSA.

You obviously can't read what i wrote so I must conclude that you are a fucking idiot!

This just proves my point. You love Google / MS so much that you can't see they too, sell your data. Your also blind to the fact that there are backdoors in the Galaxy series and the Nexus One.

No wonder there are no "bad news" articles about Google/MS. If there were, the poster would be called a fucking idiot.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get the facts straight about Apple. on: April 09, 2014, 04:01:56 AM

And Mac OS upgrade is not free, the 10.5.x upgrades are equivalent to service pack in windows which costs the same, $0

And I want to laugh at the 'future part upgrades' that you don't account for Apple Computers, oh wait! Apple computers lock the hardware up so you can't upgrade!

10.9 was released to the world for $0.

There are guides on how to upgrade your Mac Mini's storage. Oh, the latest Mac Pro is also "upgradable". It's just the "consumer-aimed" machines that aren't upgradable.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get the facts straight about Apple. on: April 09, 2014, 03:33:56 AM
How much do you get paid at the Apple store, MAC Genius?   Cheesy

I swear. Every time I spit out the truth people say this.

iphones are for old people, little girls, and toddlers.

Weird....... The iPhone users I see are adults..

Oh, and according to a recent survey: http://www.piperjaffray.com/private/pdf/Taking_Stock_Teach-In_Spring_2014.pdf (http://www.macrumors.com/2014/04/08/iphone-still-popular-with-teens/)

Fuck Apple and their overpriced products

Overpriced? Yeah, right.

HTC One (M8) 32GB: $829
Samsung Galaxy S5: $649 - $749
Apple iPhone: $649 - $849 (32GB is $749 which is actually CHEAPER then HTC One M8)
Nexus 5: $450 total for a 32GB ($50 shipping. Meanwhile, Apple charges $0 for orders over $50)

Computers:

Windows PC: $799 + Blacktop Protection (consumers) + Anti-Virus (5 yrs, $200+ total) + Microsoft Office / 365 Subscription (5 yrs, $99/year $500 total) = $799 + $100 + $200 + $500 = $1599. You need to factor in Windows 9, which will undoubtedly cost $119, and then future part upgrades, which would cost at least $300. So, in total, $1599 + 119 + 200 =2018. Even if you take out the 365 subscription, the total cost over five years is $1518, give or take part upgrades, OS upgrades, and even monitor upgrades.

iMac: $1299 + AppleCare + iWork/iLife (Free) + Free OS Upgrades = $1299 + 99 = $1398.
Mac Mini: $799 + Monitor = $999, $1099 with AppleCare.

So, in reality, you actually pay more when buying a PC, albeit over five years.

Well, I was right Sad

This "community" is one-sided when it comes to cold, hard, facts. Farewell, one-sided Bitcoin community, it's been nice knowing ya.

Fuck you and Fuck Apple. Fuck off.

When you get sued for something, I'll just root for the suer Smiley How's that for a "Fuck You Back"?
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get the facts straight about Apple. on: April 07, 2014, 06:50:46 PM
1) Closed Ecosystem
2) They didn't allow the Blockchain app on purpose it doesn't do anything but have a QR code to download a Bitcoin Wallet
3) Read only apps are work-arounds made by the community to help apple user who want to use Bitcoin
4) Apple wants to maintain its monopoly 30% revenue share from the App store and does not see Bitcoin giving it a share of the cut

In conclusion Apple is just protecting its monopoly status and does not give a damn about the end user especially after Jobs died.

1) I agree.
2) So, they let this app slide by for two years and 100k+ downloads. Yeah, right.
3) So, if I develop a reader service, I'm creating a "work-around" even thought that's not my original intention?
4) Does Apple get a 30% cut from the PayPal API? Nope.

I do NOT agree with your conclusion. If Apple wanted to protect it's monopoly status, then why allow the PayPal API?

I would argue that it's actually easier for end users to use iTunes for IAP and not have to worry about their purchases becoming "lost" or damaged. I certainly find it easier not having to worry about all the stuff that could go wrong with 'independent' in-app-purchase systems.
