Is this machine still using that shitty controller with Mips 24Kc or what it's called that had 100% CPU load 24/7 when you mined? Like the S3 did.
S2 had a different controller, although the system load was high too, at least the web UI was a lot more responsive. Hopefully S4 will be based on that. Let's hope they do it properly and release driver source from the start, so we can use our own controller boards if we want to.

Anybody here knows how to get wireless setup so it keeps working after a reboot? I want to move the miners to the shed soon, where I don't have UTP cables. I have connected an antenna and the signal strength seems to be good but still it does not like it when I remove the network cable.
It is still connected to the router through the wifi (the router sees it and figures it's alive), but it does not accept pings. As soon as I connect a network cable, even if not configured on the other end (like an unconnected switch) it starts working. The fix for this is to disable the wired network (WAN), which works until you reboot (then it's re-enabled).
Another issue it has is that dnsmasq does not work over wireless, the only way to get DNS to work is to add an entry to /etc/resolv.conf, which is again lost after a reboot.

If you mine less than what you could have sold your free power for, you should not mine. I hear about people having solar panels (paid off), so now they can mine all they want because power is free. If you just sold the energy, you would most likely get more money than if you mined with it.
That really depends. Here, the price for energy is about 6 to 7 cents per kWh, you just have to pay a ridiculous amount of tax on it, making the total price around 22 cents. If you have solar panels that generate more than you use, you only get the bare price for that extra energy. At that price mining is still very much worth it.

That is suspicious on 3333. How did you notice this? I'm going to cap a bit with Wireshark. Is your pool on 3333? I'm guessing it's not or you would not have mentioned this. It would be very unusual for DNS traffic on that port as mjk mentioned. It's probably nothing.
Just run netstat from the ssh console. It shows you all current connections. I have actually figured out it is related to the btcguild pool, if I drop packets going to the networkcentral range the btcguild pool starts showing up as dead. I can't really figure out how it is related, because none of the btcguild addresses I find seem to be anywhere near that range.

Talking about cgminer redirects, does anyone know who unknown.servercentral.net comes from? My S3 seems to be connected to it. Can't place it to any of the pools I use (slush and btcguild).
look like DNS thing 50.31.189.49 unknown.servercentral.net IP Address Information The Internet Service Provider (ISP) that owns the network address of 50.31.189.49 is Server Central Network and located in Illinois within the United States. The IP Address resolves to the DNS record of unknown.servercentral.net. Network Communications The following file have been seen to comunicate with this IP address in live environments. TCP port 3333 cgminer.exe I looked up that information too, which does not really give me any clue as to which pool it belongs. It connects on port 3333 so it really seems to be something to do with mining.

Anyone have experience with an S3 where chain #1 gets much hotter? I have a 40 degree temperature on chain #1 while chain #2 is only 32 degrees. The whole thing is a lot slower than the other S3 I have.
Have already tried removing all the thermal paste from the chips and applying arctic MX-2, but that didn't change anything. Does it also help to change the paste on the inside? What else is there to try?
I had a similar problem. Mine were off by 4 to 5 degrees. I used the same paste as you, but went one step further and did one of the inside heatsinks, before I ran out paste. I have more on the way. The inside heatsinks have hundreds of thermal paste dots over the whole surface, so it was a challenge to try and spread the paste around. The results were that the blades are now within 2 degrees of each other, but the unit still struggles to pull 440gh/s, drops over time, and can't be overclocked without lower hash rates and Xs and -s showing up. After the paste gets here, I will redo the other blade and see if it helps at all. On a side note, I have also installed heatsinks on the R47s and the little black chips above them, and it did not seem to help at all. At this point I'm a little nervous about them being in there. Thanks. Seems you have a similar problem as I do, just with a smaller temp diff. My problematic unit also doesn't OC well. I actually ran out of paste after just doing all the chips. Let me know if you see any improvement from repasting the backside of the other blade. Might get new paste and try that as well. If you say the temps dropped but you didn't see any improvement in speed it might not be the source of the problem actually.

I can't configure one of two antminers I received today. After connecting my laptop to it, adding an IP address in the same subnet I can ping it, but the web interface just refuses the connection and ssh-logins don't work with the default root/root combination.
What's wrong with this unit and how can it be fixed?
er maybe it is just me but check your router so that the internal network stuff 193.xxx.xxx.xxx or whatever is different..I had that problem it was the wrong IP on my setup even thou I changed nothing it just changed it on my router when say i plugged something else in the hub....made it 'fixed' address on the router and all was well others on here have better minds then me on this just struck me as perhaps you maybe having the same issue if not ignore my reply ..just trying to help even if clueless ..my equip this happened with was a knc jupiter but it was a router setup problem equip likely I would have had the same probem with an antminer Searing My internal network uses a different subnet, so to set it up I just connect it to my laptop and set up a temporary network in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet. This worked fine the the other antminer. As stated I can ping the device, so it seems to be sort of up.

OK, will go ahead with the order then. Thanks guys.

If I place an order now, would it be shipped on or shortly after the 7nd? Or is that batch already fully pre-ordered?

Is this pool still supposed to work? I cannot get cudaminer to work on it at all! It just keeps saying that stratum authentication failed (and yes, I have set up a worker, and yes I use loginname.workername as the username).
I tried asking this question through the support link on the pool page, but this just says there was an error sending the message.

I keep getting 502 errors from kraken since about 30 minutes. Anybody know what's going on?

I would say BFL, but opinions on that differ.

As vm1990 says, you are at least breaking even. Considering the fact that you might want to turn on the heating in the pretty-cold-for-this-time-of-year weather, I would say you are more than breaking even because all the used energy will be converted to heat, meaning your heating will have a tiny bit less to do, saving in gas costs.

Why not mine with a pool like mining.bitcoin.cz that uses merged mining? You will earn your BTC like normal and you will get some namecoins in addition as well.

I currently have my agression set to 13. For me there is no tradeoff actually since the machine is only used through ssh, nfs and as a router. There is never any monitor connected to it. I have tried increasing the agression, decreasing it, but it does not really change the GPU load.
I already did install the 11.6 driver, at least, I assume the 'ati-driver-installer-11-6-x86.x86_64.run' file is Catalyst 11.6. I still do not see any option to change the clock any further. I'd love to get more out of these cards, as they're now humming away at about 73 degrees (celsius) I think they could go a good bit higher.

I have the following setup: Ubuntu 11.04 2x Radeon 6950 Latest ATI driver AMD APP SDK 2.4 Phoenix 1.50 According to aticonf, both cards are utilized less than 70%: Adapter 0 - AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Core (MHz) Memory (MHz) Current Clocks : 840 1250 Current Peak : 840 1250 Configurable Peak Range : [500-840] [1250-1325] GPU load : 67%
Adapter 1 - AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Core (MHz) Memory (MHz) Current Clocks : 840 1250 Current Peak : 840 1250 Configurable Peak Range : [500-840] [1250-1325] GPU load : 66% To me it seems that my hardware is capable of doing at least 50% better than it is now if I can only get the GPU load up to, or close to, 100%. What can I do to achieve this. Also, using aticonf, I cannot clock the memory below 1250, or the core over 840. What is the best way to do this under ubuntu?
