1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: When botnet becomes self aware... What happens to miners? on: July 06, 2011, 12:50:47 AM
Dear god. I hope your trolling.

Why? I know it's self explanatory but it sucks knowing that you can't get by at all by having a card or two when there are people with 20 to 40 cards or even more running.

I don't see botnets as an issue, if they become too often there are ways to prevent them for pools (and if they begin using there own pools there could always be changes in the bitcoin client to prevent this).

What is killing mining for an average user is the hardcore users (obviously). I mean, the output from an average user in BTC no matter its worth is so ridicously low compared to someone that will own a whole mining server.
3  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining will become controlled by botnets on: July 02, 2011, 12:10:19 AM
I'm new here so bear with me any rookie mistake I will make by making up a few assumptions I've got so far (I'm also no programmer).

How can botnets be not worth it for someone who can do it when it comes to mining btcs? It's an investment. Sure, it's more stable money running a spam or DDoS service it seems but what about the rise in BTC's worth?
4  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Writing a Miner? on: June 30, 2011, 10:58:34 PM
3% performance increase is not important. You rather make it as simple as the rest of them but preferably with unique features. For example, an in built hide function or perhaps a merge function with the bitcoin application that you could make a portable version of as well. A statistics section like those on pools that could show estimate of earnings and such for multiple mining set-ups and perhaps over a time frame.
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: GUIminer and GTX470 issue on: June 30, 2011, 12:33:57 AM
It works now, I rebooted and it just started working again. Very strange. I didn't not touch the clocks, I just messed with the flags.
6  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [Announce] WhileIdle application - Stealth run miners only when computer is idle on: June 30, 2011, 12:23:43 AM
I don't understand why this is not working right.  Sure, it runs guiminer, but guiminer just sits there doing nothing.  Normally the task manager tells me the CPU is at 100% when a miner is running.  But the CPU just idles after guiminer starts.  Nothing happens.  How do I set guiminer to automatically start a miner?

I have the exact same issue although I'm trying to run the GPU instead.

Awesome pool. It seems to be very stable and great site (quick and clean). I'm curious how the whole market section is going to work in correlation with the bitcoin account you have?
8  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: POLL: How much stales do you get? on: June 28, 2011, 09:38:06 PM
I just noticed I have 19 stales of 90 accepted at bitcoins.lc with GUIminer. How do I activate long polling if it is supported? Anything else I could do like add some flags.
9  Bitcoin / Mining support / GUIminer and GTX470 issue on: June 28, 2011, 05:28:51 PM
Stable speed seem to be 94 Mhash/s for me then I started to fiddle around with the flags and different pools and now I hit a limit at 55 Mhash/s no matter what. I know my speed sucks but I only do this because it's fun for the moment, I do have some interest to get a real mining machine but not at the moment.

Any reason this could be? I've checked and my hardware isn't faulty and it's the only known application I seem to have something wrong with.
10  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [Announce] WhileIdle application - Stealth run miners only when computer is idle on: June 28, 2011, 02:46:17 AM
I'm very new to this and I was wondering if anyone could help me. The 2nd line doesn't seem to work as the this app will start guiminer for me but not activate mining.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much money you're planning to spend on bitcoins? on: June 28, 2011, 02:36:51 AM
Nothing currently..I wait until something happens and it's cheaper. :p
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm hungry on: June 28, 2011, 02:24:09 AM
I'm also hungry. It would be awesome with online pizza/noodles delivery by paying with BTC. Smiley

4 hours is perfect since if someone's attention span lasts that long then they are worth keeping around.

And you don't think decent trolls have trained patience? It might keep the obvious out but not the cunning ones.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: June 27, 2011, 10:36:08 PM
Hi there. I'm new to bitcoins and I dislike the increasing difficulty when it comes to mining therefor, unfortunately, I think my interest will be short-lived unless it balances out.
