1  Other / MultiBit / Re: MultiBit on: November 20, 2013, 08:39:43 PM
Issue resolved.

Apparently, something went wrong with a Java update in the meantime.
Removed and reinstalled Java properly and after that, could also install and use MultiBit without any problems as well.

And the space was eaten up by .jar files created in the Temp folder. (That gave the hint that helped resolve the issue.)

So, everything alright now, no more problems.

Sorry for disrupting any ongoing conversations.

Ah, and an interesting detail: on each occasion, when I try to start the installer, about 8-10 MB free space disappears from my system drive and I can't find where, how or why...? MultiBit's own directory does not seem to become any larger.

After about two hours of fruitless efforts, I've just about given up. Please help, as I have no idea how to proceed any further.

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.
Just a few hours ago everything worked fine with an earlier version of MultiBit I was using (4.23 I think).
I've imported some keys I was using on another PC.
No problems here either, imported just fine, synchronized, saw all the transactions and the right amounts.
Closed MultiBit.

One or two hours later tried starting it again.
Absolutely nothing at all happened.
Tried starting again, still nothing.
Tried an even earlier version that I also had (4.15 I think). Again, nothing.
Tried restarting PC, no success.
Tried downloading and installing the most recent MultiBit (5.14)...

Downloaded it OK. But when trying to run it, I first get the usual Windows prompt asking if I really want to run it, yes, of course, and then again, nothing at all happens. Tried a few more times - sometimes I also get a window saying that the program may not be installed correctly (Note: I'm still trying to launch the INSTALLER file itself when I get this message...) and that I can either reinstall it with "the recommended settings" or I can say that it is installed correctly. No matter what I choose, again, nothing happens.

Tried uninstalling the earlier versions first, both with the Uninstall provided with the MultiBit installation and from Control Panel as well, but again, nothing at all happened when I tried to start the uninstall.

So I tried it the hard way: deleted the program files I could find manually, then searched the registry for any entries containing "multibit" and deleted these as well.

Then restarted the PC and tried again.

And still I only get the above results. (And in case I'd have left this detail out, I can not launch any earlier version installers either - nothing happens with those either.)

So... I'm at the end of my wits and would much appreciate any help anyone could provide. Thanks a lot in advance.

Cheers,

Gábriel

Soweit ich weiß, gibt es in Luxemburg kein "Kreuzberg" (ist in Berlin), wahrscheinlich meinst du Kirchberg. Dort sind die Mieten allerdings unbezahlbar. Wenn du was günstiges suchst, versuchs mal hier: http://www.colocation-luxembourg.com

5  Local / Suche / Suche Wohnung zu mieten in Luxembourg (Stadt) on: November 12, 2013, 07:26:10 PM

Smiley
6  Economy / Services / Looking for a flat to rent in Luxembourg (city) for BTC on: November 12, 2013, 06:56:34 PM
So, anyone here from Luxembourg (city) - with a flat to rent out? Smiley

I live in Hungary at the moment, but the company I'm working for is now in a process of relocation to Luxembourg (city) and we're moving with it.

So for this obvious reason I would need a flat to rent there. Of course I'm checking the regular channels as well, but I thought it might be worth to try to post such an ad here as well.

Requirements:
- location: Kirchberg area would be best, but any neighboring quarters of the city will do as well.
- rooms: two separate bedrooms needed (we will be moving in with my wife and a colleague/friend of ours).
- furnishing: if beds (at the very least) and maybe a table + 3 chairs would be available, that would be great.
- price: a rent at around 1.500 EUR per month would be the best, but we can go up to around 1.800, 1.900 as well, if needed.
- availability: should be available for moving in at the 20th of this month at the soonest, to around the first few days of December at the very latest.

And of course we would pay in BTC. Smiley
[Though of course even if you yourself do not have such a flat to rent out, but do know of someone who does (even if he/she is not into bitcoin), then of course I'd still be grateful if you could notify me about that person or him/her about me.]

If there would indeed at least a single offer be available, please write to gabriel1379 [ a t ] gmail [ d o t ] com . Thanks in advance. Smiley
7  Other / MultiBit / Re: Password recovery - MultiBit 0.5.13 on: October 12, 2013, 01:24:27 PM
Well, in the meantime I have found a solution: I remembered that I also used the same wallet on another PC, with an earlier version of MultiBit, which didn't have password protection yet. I've checked it and indeed, the bitcoins were there and available. From there, the rest was easy. Smiley
Still, thanks for your answers. Smiley
8  Other / MultiBit / Password recovery - MultiBit 0.5.13 on: October 01, 2013, 07:01:34 PM
Hi all,

I seem to have forgotten my password to my MultiBit wallet.
Could perhaps someone recommend me a way or some password recovery tool to get it back?
Maybe a brute force guesser or whatever... I'm not a programmer, nor do I really know such tools, so any recommendations are welcome.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

10  Economy / Economics / Re: MtGox should roll back on: April 11, 2013, 05:03:11 AM
IMHO the main problem is still simply the fact that MtGox is still too important.

Bitcoin should be all about decentralization if I'm not mistaken but MtGox still is a central point.

Should not be.

Of course, this can't really be helped I guess, as whenever mainstream media writes about Bitcoin, the only exchange they ever mention by name is MtGox, so that's where newbies will automatically go.

But older users should be more responsible and switch exchanges.

Also, MtGox itself should be more responsible and notify newbies about other exchanges. (I know, they are a business a too and this would likely be far too altruistic a move in a market environment, but still... might be worth considering, as surely they wouldn't like it either if the price would crash even lower...)

Or they could simply just split themselves into several smaller exchanges and name and perhaps even design these differently. They could of course still manage all of these themselves, but at least then there would also be more diversification.

Right now however, MtGox is The Bitcoin Exchange, whether we like it or not, and if MtGox takes a hit for any reason, the price will plummet.

So, to cut is short, serious work should be done already to reduce the importance of MtGox. It should simply be an exchange from the many, not The Single Exchange.

Still IMHO, of course.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Just an idea... what do you think? (Bounty, game development) on: February 17, 2012, 11:44:50 AM
Surely there are some among you who had the chance to play the great and amazing game "Master of Magic" back in the old days - and surely some of you even liked it... and would even like to play it today, only with better graphics and sound, modernized and remade... but sadly there simply isn't such a remake yet, or at least not to my knowledge.

(Yes, I do know about Age of Wonders, which is sometimes quoted as a MoM-remake, but at least in my opinion, that was not good at all, to say the least. Too many changes, too many restrictions... and it looked much more like a HeroesIII-clone (Now don't get me wrong, HeroesIII is a great game too, but if I want to play that then I just play that; and when I'd like to play MoM, then I'd like to play MoM).)
(I also know of the Civ4-mod FFH, which is very good too, but is still not an MoM-remake.)
(I've also heard of Stardock planning doing something like this for quite a few years now, but as far as I know, in reality they haven't done anything at all.)

So I guess you already know where this is heading, since the idea is quite straightforward: since apparently no established company is going to do this, it might just be worth a try(?) to crowdsource together a significant amount of Bitcoin-bounty for any group of independent developers willing to take on this challenge and at last make a decent MoM-remake. (With "decent" I mean of course keeping everything intact from the original gameplay, and only modernizing graphics, sound and suchlike. Extras of course can be added, like multiplayer, etc., but strictly optionally, and there should always be the option of the original gameplay as well. )

The bounty would only be payed once the game is indeed finished and approved of as indeed a good remake by a significant majority (at least 60%) of those pooling together the bounty. If after a given period of time no-one takes on the challenge at all, or if no-one manages to make a good remake, then the funds would of course go back to all those who have pooled it together.

(Since the developers will get the bounty as payment for their time and efforts, the remake itself should also be freeware; but of course no-one forbids the developers to collect further donations for their work from the grateful fans. Smiley )

So... what do you think? Could - should - this be done, and if yes, then how should it be started?
Any comments, ideas, etc. welcome.

Gabriel from Hungary, devoted translator, intending to create the Hungarian version of some of the en.bitcoin.it pages (some translations already done), but not having the slightest idea about wiki-technicalities, and as such having no idea about how to create hu.bitcoin.it pages in the first place either... so I'd be very grateful for all and any help in this matter.

I've already registered on translatewiki.net, but I don't see bitcoin.it among their projects... so I'm really confused about what to do and how to start? I've already done the translations of the FAQ and the Introduction page, and I'd really like to put them online...
