found out that the 4 are really not suitable anyways. so I will have two machines now. they where both proper cad-workstations with beefy hardware and proper power supplies, and I got them for free. so for now this will be my setup.
na, i would neet to buy everything, not just the psu if i need to create one new rig. but you got me, i have free electricity atm, so reusing my existing hardware would save me some serious bucks and time and hassle....
thanks for the information guys. If i find a suitable board i will need to put everything into one chassis. I cannot have an open rig with risers for multiple reasons. so that means I would need a board with 8 PCIe slots, because the RX580 will cover two of them? I assume this will make my search a bit harder?
If for some reasons I will be able to use risers, which ones would be recommended? I heard they vary quite much in stability and performance?
thanks for the feedback. I was thinking strongly about going for one computer, but that needs to be fully purchased (cant use an open rig, must be a unobtrusive computer). But I have older computers on hand with i5, 8GB and 240GB SSD, Win10. I thought it should be fine also when I install one card per computer and save the hassle of buying a 1000W PSU, Big Tower for 8 height units, and a board that can house everything.
I have a couple of RX580 and would like to know if it is the same if I equip 4 computers with one GPU each, or is it better to create one "beast-machine" with 4 GPUs? The latter would cause significant extra-cost, but if the hash-rates are significantly better, that might be an option. IŽd go for pool mining, and I do not mind the overhead I am having with 4 computers vs one big in terms of power and space.
what motherboard would you recommend to host 4 RX580 GPUs? I often see board that are equipped with one PCIe 16x slot, and a couple of other ports with "only" 8x or worse. Is this really something I should care? Does this affect mining/hashrates or can I just ignore that at all?
Thanks in advacne for your input and feedback roat
I have an old Celsius Workstation equipped with two AMD HD6970 2GB, connected through Crossfire. Due a bit of luck electricity is free for me at the moment, so IŽd like to let it run a bit. What is the best Miner for my setup? IŽd prefer a simple gui, but IŽd also go with a robust CLI version of anything.
