1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CFN] ConfessionCoin | Secrets are better shared | NEW WALLET JULY 24! on: October 26, 2014, 05:08:44 AM
yes it was lower, on the right chain, but nobody mined on it actually.
i don't know exactly how it works but looks like an attempt of 51,
first make pool look inoperable loading it with too much MH,
ppl cut off, then you're alone on the chain and can do what you want.

There is no evidence of such an attack from here, but as you say, we may have just been on nodes on the correct chain, so all looks ok except for the delay.  If one of your nodes was a victim on a suspected incorrect chain, could you PM me the debug.log file so that I can verify what it looked like from there?

i can't, everything is cleaned already,
all i know is chain was stuck with low diff and no miners on correct chain,
then i've mined a block to unhook the thing, and 32 more declining diff to help jumpstart a pool

Again, if you have evidence and can provide a log of a solo mined client on a different chain, it would be most useful.

We've been watching carefully all day today and it's pretty obvious that someone is (actually 2-3 people it seems) just mining until difficulty goes high, dropping off, then waiting for the stuck block and for difficultly to go low again and then repeating.  This is not an attack though, it's just playing with the block times and making them a bit erratic (i.e. some happen really quickly, some take a long time).  Difficulty re-target is working though and the overall supply rate appears to be just fine (i.e. no more/less blocks than expected are being generated), just how long it takes to complete varies.  This happens a lot in all coins, even Bitcoin, because it's fair game given how the network works.

This stuff is fun to watch :-P

I see a large network hashrate, and no blocks happening.  Either there's another pool or solo mining operation that are 1) not connected to the main network and messing with things, or 2) Huh

The large network hashrate is based on how many blocks are being found in some amount of time and there's no way that amount of hashrate can be reported without finding blocks.  So something is weird.  Admittedly, I don't know what it is either, but it's been interesting to watch.

And yes, I'm still working on the windows thing we discussed, but haven't been able to get back to it just yet.  If you're ahead of me, go for the next release, but otherwise, I'll be in touch soon.

just wondering where is the new wallet at would love to check it out but i can only find the last one and the server thing is really cool and cheap i might just check that out for a few months.

Thanks for asking, and sorry, that's my fault!  I sort of dropped off the map again working on some other projects.  I'll try to coordinate with the CFN team asap to get that going.

Glad to see this coin is not dead!

As long as the devs are active (which we are!) and at least 2 people are using a crypto -- it can't ever die :-)

Hey, been a while, but I've got some more free time and will be looking into the native windows build again.  Got it going for a few other coins, so hopefully we can have the confessional built into the CFN Windows wallet in relatively short order(!)

That's great, welcome back!  PM sent :-)

A quick update that the wallet is built and I have the confessional working on Windows.  Will help coordinate the release, or send patches as needed!

Confirmed with coder, it was built natively.

Ok, thanks  Smiley

When will the code be available for the new wallet?

Seems like someone wants to steal it for Confessioncoin go figure the dev figured it out and now someone wants to steal it already.

That is the main reason we are discussing it first. It hasn't even been 24 hours and looks like another dev is trying to take it.

In other news, we are also discussing adding legitimate merchant websites into the wallet. This will not only allow users to spend their coins right out of the wallet, but gives legitimate businesses incentive to adopt APEX acceptance in the form of free advertisement for their website. If you are a legitimate business and this interests you, please send me a PM.

Hate to be sarcastic, but I kind of expected an accusation for asking for the source of an open source project.  And I truly have no interest in "stealing" your code for adding a webpage to a Qt app -- of course ConfessionCoin does that already and I helped out on that.  What I'm curious about is the build process -- if you're cross compiling or building natively, and I can find that out very quickly from seeing the code and trying to build it.

I'm disappointed you (as the official dev account) jumped to that conclusion.  I'm of the opinion that keeping your coin code secret doesn't add any advantages ... apparently your users feel differently.  C'est le vie.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions, but I did not personally read up on Confessioncoin. I simply saw a newbie account with only a handful of posts on their thread and jumped to that conclusion, and I apologize. As for your question, I'm pretty sure it was built natively, but will confirm when the coder wakes in the morning.

No problem, thanks for that response.  I am still curious if it's built natively (that's my guess anyway) if you don't mind following up.

BTW, I saw you said you're doing direct payments from the wallet, which ConfessionCoin also does.  Seems like your devs have a handle on it, but there's at least that point of reference in the CFN github if it comes in handy.

Pool down again?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CFN] ConfessionCoin | Secrets are better shared | NEW WALLET JUNE 24! on: July 12, 2014, 08:41:22 PM
The official pool is having some problems and needs maintenance, but it should be be back online soon.  There are other pools operating, so if they're open to the public, please tell the others here!

The pool appears back up for me now.  Is this temporary, or are we good to go now?

Can you purchase the coin on any other exchange besides allcoin?

I'll sell you some if you'd like.  Make an offer?

where's the pool to many pool dead ??

pool.confessioncoin.com was forked to mining

pool.confessioncoin.com is running.

There is no fork for ConfessionCoin.  What are you referring to?

Not sure, the pool is working just fine here ...

Ok, the new wallet is pretty cool.  But no windows support?

Oh wait, nevermind, just saw the older post about it.  So someday hopefully.

Correct.  We're hopeful, but for now QtWebkit is not supported in our build system so it's been disabled on Windows.

We recommend using the GNU/Linux or OS X wallet anyway for security reasons!

Are you building the Windows wallet on Windows using mingw/msys, or cross compiling with something like MXE?

Cross compiling with mingw/mxe.

Ok.  I see the dilemma.  They dropped QtWebKit support for MXE because it can't be built statically and presented some issues.  Disabling the Confessional support on Windows was a good bet until it's sorted out.  Maybe get a windows based build system up and running?  That could help, but I'm not sure.  I may look into that if I find some free time though.

Why does my confessions on the website sometimes show up right away and other times take an hour or so to load?

After you post the confession, the site waits for the penance payment.  If you pay it right away, the site still waits for it to show up with a number of confirmations, so it can take a few minutes from then.  If you do not pay it and wait for the devs to pay it for you (which they're doing right now for a limited time), well, that can take some time because while they manually check to see pending confessions, they don't check as frequently as the site which is automated.

The new wallet is coming soon.  In addition to the added Confessional for all non-windows wallets, it's got new icons and dnsseed support (which was disabled previously since no nodes were up and running).  This last change should noticeably increase the number of connections that are possible in the wallet as more people get upgraded.  The upgrade is highly recommended!
