1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Please roast my app idea.. on: February 22, 2020, 11:18:29 PM
Hey guys, selfish self promotion here. We just launched a social trading app that let's you copy any trader on Binance. Cool part is you get paid for any green day. So if any follower makes a profit by following you they pay you a small piece of the profits.

So.... I was hoping to get everyone's feedback. Would you ever use something like this? Is this just a horrible idea? What am I doing wrong? Am I an idiot?

Please don't hold back Lips sealed

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why are you involved with Crypto? on: January 28, 2020, 08:18:54 PM
Sadly, I joined out of curiosity from a small explainer video on the Mt.Gox website which I thought was pretty cool.

After reading more into it I realized this was a revolution against big banks and horrible monetary policy run by crooks.

I say sadly, because I joined for the money, stayed for the revolution, and now engulfed again by the thought of a quick buck  Undecided
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why We Need Bitcoin, If Altcoins Transfers Are Faster And Cheaper on: January 28, 2020, 08:13:13 PM
3 things:

1. No coin has the strength / hashrate of Bitcoin even Ripple couldn't move 1 billion dollars last year (they had to split it up into 3 separate transactions).
2. Bitcoin so far is the only coin that combines the 3 (security, speed, low fees). Other coins always drop one to gain the others. For exampe, dropping security to get speed and low fees.
3. An altcoin overcoming bitcoin would be detrimental to the market why? How do I put my life savings into something when it can be replaced by something better in a year or 2?
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Top 5 Cryptocurrencies to invest in 2020 (Without External Links) on: January 28, 2020, 08:07:23 PM
Zcash
    pros:
  • Leader in privacy using Zksnarks which is cutting edge tech and one of the smartest teams out there.
  • They're working on Recursive Zksnarks which would allow a constant size blockchain of a few Mb.. imagine running a node on your phone fully private!
    cons:
  • Has a rediculously high inflation rate which can hamper the price

Ethereum
    pros:
  • Everyone is talking about DeFi right now, but the price hasn't moved just like with the ICO craze.. price didn't move even though everyone was jumping into ICOs. Sometimes price can lag
  • Gaven Anderson is moving to working on Ethereum instead of Bitcoin which is huge
  • They're moving to Proof of Stake
    cons:
  • Blockchain size is reaching a limit and they need to move fast, other projects are also catching up

BAT
    pros:
  • Which other project already has a product (Brave Browser) already being used by millions of people?
  • Has global reach, not just Crypto Community
    cons:
  • At the end of the day it's just an ERC-20 token, which doesn't really need to exist

Beam
    pros:
  • Extremely undervalued project, next in privacy tech after zcash
  • Their team is amazing, has a working fully private mobile and desktop wallets
  • Better tech than Monero (words of fluffyPony himself, creator of Monero) and it's a tenth of the price ($1 billion vs $50 million marketcap)
    cons:
  • Also super high inflation rate which hampers price

Cosmos
    pros:
  • Will connect both Bitcoin and Ethereum and allow developing contracts to work on any blockchain
    cons:
  • Still new hasn't been battle tested, and I don't know the team too well

Decred
pros:
  • Personal favorite, on chain consensus and governance which let's people vote on which upgrades to add
  • Most versatile coin out there, users are in charge of what to add. And they voted to add privacy features
  • Stable funding for the project unlike other projects which ask for donations or go through ICOs
cons:
  • No one really talks about it much

Cosmos
pros:
  • Will connect both Bitcoin and Ethereum and allow developing contracts to work on any blockchain
cons:
  • Still new hasn't been battle tested, and I don't know the team too well

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: July 03, 2018, 03:44:23 AM
I'm curious.. if ROI is on average around 6 months wouldn't it be better to simply buy the coin at today's prices and ride it up? Or is the point of mining to make money even as the price continues to drop?
7  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Selling Bitmain coupons - at 25% of coupon price , 75% off. on: July 01, 2018, 06:57:59 PM
Would it make things easier if I made you guys a web app where you can post your coupons and have people bid on them? Possibly have escrow built in too?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 04, 2018, 04:14:57 PM
In Zooko's words, he's open to discussing the issue of ASIC resistance and whether or not it's worth it.

For the time being though, they can't change the algo since Overwinter and Sapling are in progress and that would throw things off, so if they do change algos it would have to be after those upgrades.

Lastly, he mentioned that mining pools are even more dangerous than ASICs which I never thought about.. he does have a point in that aspect.
9  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bittrex - Next generation exchange (btc/ltc/eac/ppc/rdd/ftc/and more) on: November 12, 2017, 10:50:27 PM
Yup... I had a legacy account and just got switched to "New". Not sure what's going on. They should have at least notified us somehow that they would be restricting withdrawals at some point. Going to speak with a lawyer and see what they think. Does seem a bit strange, I've been with these guys for years.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 09, 2016, 09:38:45 PM
estanis, something's not right. Maybe something went wrong with the wallets during the upgrade, since you and I withdrew during the upgrade I think. It's been more than a whole day now, nothing showing up in the Block Explorer or my account. This is something on their end, I hope they fix it or refund us.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 09, 2016, 03:27:02 PM
Yea I tried checking both the address I sent to and the Txid. None of them show up in the explorer.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 09, 2016, 10:42:47 AM
So I just sent some Factoids to a wallet and the transaction completely disappeared. This is my Txid: bc803a5d597ee76526d1acae8fbd4fb5320c6ec4db1ca9d73141bdcd9e5aee57

Not sure how this happened.. I can't find the transaction on the Factom Explorer either.  Cry

I'm really not here to spread FUD, whatever that stands for anyway. I am also heavily invested in this coin the last thing I want to see is a run on the coin.  @atcsecure take your time with your work and don't worry about the price.  It'll come back up in due time.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 07:10:41 PM
Let me guess the outcome. "Trusted" community members are going to conclude that the implementation works remarkably well, followed by a bunch of screenshots, tweets and blog posts. Regular Joe however won't get access to any instructions or wallet to verify that himself.

So to prove that this is sketchy let's take evtrmm's screenshot as reference:

one more per ATC

launch wallet in testnet

launch debug window after syncing

As you can see you can clearly see the values and addresses, so all the wallet does is replacing the sent from text field as 'unknown' in the GUI ... genius really.
With a proper block explorer one could hop around, otherwise it's inconvinient so most people won't even verify it in the wallet.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.  Unless the dev has a reply to this it does seem somewhat fishy.  Nothing against the dev or the XC coin team, but you must understand that people have been burned many times.  I'll give you guys the benefit of the doubt for now.  I'll sell a portion of my holdings now and wait this out.

(Minor crash incoming please don't start panic-ing)
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] >> Mandatory Wallet Update - The first POS ANON on: May 30, 2014, 06:47:41 PM
Is there a block explorer? Because anyone can just put sending address "Unknown" With a simple method in the wallet.

This on testnet only, you will be able to test it yourself.

No, you don't understand what I'm saying. Without a block explorer for testnet, it's trivial to display "Unknown" in the Transaction Details page.

To fully analyze the transaction to see if it actually is anonymous, you need a block explorer.

If anyone wants to make a testnet block explorer they can, I will message someone right now

Didn't see this.  This is great news.  It's unfortunate that there's so much suspicion floating around.  If this was any other coin the price would be going through the roof right now.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Slimcoin : Proof of Burn NEW BLOCK GEN, Mineable by low power computer! on: May 29, 2014, 01:08:30 AM
I like "BurnCoin" has a buzz to it.

Also, can someone walk us through how to start mining.  I'm running a linux box and the code won't compile. Gives me this error when I try to untar the executable.

Code:
tar zxf slimcoin-linux.tar.gz

Code:
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I had the same question, was just checking out the Github repo.  Don't see any major commits.  Just a few commits for changing the POW max number of units. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but with all the scams going around these days you can't be too safe.
