1  Economy / Reputation / Imposter's in Nigeria(Najia) Board on: September 06, 2025, 05:47:26 AM
DisclaimerI have no intention of criticizing any specific board or its members, nor do I object to how anyone chooses to use or spend their sMerits. My only aim is to highlight certain behaviors where some individuals may be taking unfair advantage of the system. This is simply my perspective, and I believe there is some validity to it.

So recently I followed a pattern of posting style which isn't like local Nigerian. Well I have  recently noticed this cause I do follow some ØGs from Najia board via telegram notification bot. In najia board they do use English so this ain't bother me to read their topics. I respect it, soemtimes I found also some information usefull. But here's comes my suspicious -

According to Rikafip in his [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity August Data  in Najia board merit/post ratio is 0.67 that means every two post you're getting 1 merit. Also monthly average active user/posts ratio is 10.92 but I saw a group of user's is posting 3/4x to their regular in najia board. Not all members but a certain group of members .

I defenetly think there is lots of Imposter's hidden there since they use english as their communication language it would be easy to blend with them and they are taking advantage of their board getting some quick merits.

I have no personal grudge against anyone , so I'm not pointing anyone in daylight. I'm leaving this matter to the community.
2  Other / Meta / Re: I got 612 Merit Just Today on: September 02, 2025, 10:21:15 PM
My logs say your telegram ID setup the bot with the username and ID from coinerer. That was on March 22nd. Is that you?
No I ain't know that account. Who is that. I started using this telegram and start the bot is recently. As you said I start the bot on August 22nd and started using it.

Quote
(NOTE: Telegram ID is unique per bot and per chat, so nothing personal is being released here).

Thanks for keeping confidentiality, I respect your work. Although I use disposable numbers always for keeping myself anonymous. Thanks for the explaination. Now I've learned about it. Probably this Telegram handle was used by someone else , cause I did purchase telegram from a 3rd party vendor. The bot history was cleared so everything came to me as a new user.
But shouldn't it reset after /start command?
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Feeling of Paying a Food Bill with Bitcoin on: September 02, 2025, 07:18:59 PM
Yeah, I actually had a similar experience once! A small café in my city started accepting Bitcoin a while back, and I decided to give it a try. The bill wasn’t much, but honestly, the feeling of paying with Bitcoin was kinda surreal. It wasn’t just about buying coffee it felt like being part of something bigger, you know? Like a glimpse of how the future of payments could look.

At the same time, I also realized there’s a bit of risk involved since Bitcoin’s value keeps changing. The owner even laughed and said he sometimes gains or loses depending on when he converts it. Still, it was a cool moment and definitely more exciting than just tapping a card or using cash.

So yeah, I totally get what you mean it’s not just about the food, it’s the experience of actually using Bitcoin in daily life. Makes you think about how fast things are changing in the world of money.

This can be a bug from Telegram bot. post it on this thread [TELEGRAM] Yet Another BitcoinTalk Notification BOT (merits, mentions, topics,+)
Since I would liked to learn about it from forum member's that's why created this topic , see if any others faced this also.

This is a little error, open the notifier and type in /setmerit 2 then send. It will be reset.
Code:
/setmerit 2
send this command on you telegram bot to reset your merit Status
Thanks both of you I just done it, I could only get to confirm this if I would receive any merit in future if it rrally resets or not. Thanks for the help

Thought so at first but I looked up the merit history of vapourminer and he hasn't merited anyone with around 612 merits lately so I'm quite sure OP is just experiencing a bug. Op you should lock this topic now since you have a fix already.
Yeah this incident lead me to dig more into merit system and what I found that a user can send 50 merit max to a user in 30days time frame.

I guess that there is either a misplaced username or URL or userID in place of someone with the exact merit score, so inside of giving the notification to the user only, the bug might have included your ID or username to the notification hence you got notified too.
Well I did received a merit from vapourminer so the transaction was genuine but the sum of merit kinda unusual. Although I was a new user on bot so didn't have any experience before.

I will close this topic after few more response. I'm keeping this open to get more response to see if any one else did faced this issue or not. Thank you guys for all this supportive
5  Other / Meta / I got 612 Merit Just Today on: September 02, 2025, 06:21:07 PM
As you can see I'm a JR member and still have only 2 merit than did I lied to everyone well technically no. I really received 612 merits see here

After watching this I rushed over forum and refresh my profile like crazy. Thought for sometimes that there maybe server issue or getting all that merits at once maybe laged forum🌚 that's why taking time to arrive. I used VPN, Tried clearing my browser data , tried to logged in another device nothing was working . Then I search on google and found some topic related to this that sometimes this notification bot which is provided by TryNinja sometimes has some bug like this.

Anyway as a low rank member I was so much happy that I couldn't think about any no to my response🥲. Do you guys faced any of this issue recently.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin investment failed on: August 28, 2025, 09:01:17 AM
So many early adopters have similar tales of using Bitcoin for gaming or small purchases back when it seemed like "internet funny money." The important thing is you're here now and learning.
Don't let regret consume you though. Yes, those early Bitcoin might be worth a fortune today, but remember that nobody could have predicted this trajectory with certainty. Even if you had held onto them, there's no guarantee you wouldn't have sold during the 2017 peak or any other major event.

The real value is the lesson learned. You now understand Bitcoin's potential and the importance of long term thinking in crypto. Many people are still completely unaware or dismissive of Bitcoin even today. Focus on applying this knowledge moving forward rather than dwelling on the past.

Welcome to the community  there's always more to learn and discuss here!
7  Other / Meta / Re: Ranking up/down on: August 27, 2025, 07:51:29 PM

Interesting idea, but I think this could backfire pretty badly.
You're basically taxing people for posting, which seems backwards for a discussion forum. Good contributors who help newbies or engage in active discussions would get punished just for participating. Meanwhile, people will probably just focus even more on merit farming instead of actually contributing useful content.

Also, merit distribution is already uneven across different board sections. Someone posting helpful stuff in the altcoin section is going to have a much harder time than someone in Bitcoin Discussion.
Maybe instead of penalizing every post, we could look at post quality over time periods? Like if someone's merit-to-post ratio tanks for a month straight, then apply some kind of warning or temporary rank adjustment.

Just my 2 sats - I think we want to encourage participation, not make people scared to post.
8  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Any good reason you prefer perpetual to future? on: August 26, 2025, 06:39:21 PM
A trader prefers perpetuals because they offer a simpler, more liquid, and seamless experience for speculating on price movements without the complexities of contract expiration dates. Traditional futures serve a different purpose, often for more institutional or long-term hedging strategies.
You're right many traders probably don't know the difference, but they are using the instrument that is, by design, better suited for their speculative goals.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Bitcoin survive if all hardware wallets suddenly stopped working? on: August 26, 2025, 01:45:16 PM
If hardware wallets became unusable, would confidence in Bitcoin weaken, or would people adapt with new storage methods? Is this even a possibility ?

Hardware wallets are just tools bro, Bitcoin doesn’t live inside them. Lose one tool, another comes up. The network doesn’t care.
10  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 25, 2025, 07:48:50 PM

Overused?
Now i think i don't get it!

Maybe so, but repetition is part of culture. The more the WO sign shows up, the more it cements itself as tradition.
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 25, 2025, 07:35:24 PM
I wanted to say that I really like the idea of the WO sign being flashed in pictures of things or places we’ve been lucky enough to experience due to Bitcoin. Would love to see that continue.

I also wanted to say that I don’t think we’re going to see the CME gap close today… Maybe this week.

I get the WO sign idea, it’s fun for the culture, but honestly it can get a bit repetitive if overused. As for the CME gap, I wouldn’t rule out today just yet Bitcoin has a habit of surprising everyone when most are already leaning one way.

During an appearance at the SALT conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on August 20, 2025, Eric Trump stated that he believes Bitcoin will reach $175,000 by the end of the year and referred to himself as a "Bitcoin Maxi."
He also predicted that Bitcoin will eventually be worth over $1 million.
These comments were widely covered by multiple cryptocurrency and finance outlets.

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on the rise in Kenyan slums on: August 23, 2025, 05:48:45 PM
While using Bitcoin in Kibera’s Soweto West may offer financial inclusion for those without bank access, the risks far outweigh the benefits. First, Bitcoin’s notorious price swings can devastate households some residents already hold 70–80% of their wealth in it, making any dip potentially catastrophic.

Second, there's little oversight or consumer protection in place; this means people could be exposed to fraud or loss without legal recourse.

Finally, while reduced transaction fees might sound appealing, volatility and lack of regulation could negate true utility, especially for vulnerable communities living day to day.

15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I buy Bitcoins? on: August 22, 2025, 05:36:37 PM
What are easy and trustworthy options and tips?
If you’re looking to buy Bitcoin, the safest option is always to use a reputable exchange or platform that has been around for years. Some of the most trusted ones are Coinbase, Binance, Kraken, and Bitstamp. They offer proper security, good liquidity, and customer support. If you prefer more privacy and want to avoid KYC, peer-to-peer platforms like Bisq or Hodl Hodl are also worth checking. You can also buy directly from Bitcoin ATMs in many countries, but fees are usually higher. Whichever method you choose, make sure to withdraw your Bitcoin to a personal wallet where you hold the private keys instead of leaving it on an exchange. That way, you stay in full control.
16  Other / Meta / Re: Board proposal: Gambling (Altcoins) on: August 22, 2025, 05:33:50 PM
Perhaps it would make sense to create a dedicated section called Gambling (Altcoins) inside the “Alternate Cryptocurrencies” forum?

A childish wish from you. There are no strict rules that only BTC-accepted casinos can be discussed in the Gambling section. Since it’s part of the Marketplace, we’re free to talk about anything related to Bitcoin. What surprises me is that your signature, Ton Station, has no direct link to Bitcoin. By your own logic, that means it shouldn’t even be allowed here, since Ton Station is completely outside the Bitcoin ecosystem. I’m not criticizing the project, nor do I hold any negative feelings toward it — I only used it as an example, so please don’t take it personally.

The real purpose of Bitcointalk has always been bigger. There are plenty of boards for different discussions, but the problem isn’t with the boards themselves. It’s us who ignore them and focus only on Gambling because of signature promotions. Instead of trying to change the system, we should work on changing our mindset and environment. If we shift our perspective, everything else will naturally fall into place.

Powel left the door open for an interest rate cut at the Fed’s September meeting. While not definitive, the shift in tone reflects concern over weak job growth and growing downside risks .
18  Other / Meta / Re: From Newbie To Legendary: The Case For Early Opportunities on: August 21, 2025, 06:02:31 PM
That’s a really thoughtful post. I agree with you signature campaigns back in the day were more than just a way to earn a bit of BTC. For many, they acted like training wheels, giving newcomers a reason to read more carefully, think critically, and improve the quality of their posts. You’re right that spam was a big problem, and that’s likely why campaigns were restricted to higher ranks, but it’s also true that not every Jr. Member was here to abuse the system. Some of today’s Legendary and Hero members probably stayed engaged because they had that early incentive.

Maybe the solution isn’t to bring them back exactly as they were, but to design campaigns with stricter quality checks, active moderation, or even trial periods. That way, genuine learners get the chance to grow while spammers are filtered out. At the end of the day, keeping newcomers motivated is key if we want this forum and Bitcoin knowledge to keep thriving.

19  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you very addicted to gambling?? on: August 21, 2025, 05:59:08 PM
Short take If gambling feels like income, addiction is already knocking. Treat it like paid entertainment or don’t do it. Set hard limits, block the apps, tell someone you trust, and take a 90-day no-bet break. If you can’t stop, get help from a counselor or GA.
20  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: August 21, 2025, 05:50:27 PM
......

Yet, even if all the criteria grant inclusion, it is still subject to a panel of approval. If this panel, the S&P Dow Jones Indices Committee, denies the inclusion, the stock cannot be included.
In the past, TSLA has been denied admission for a few quarters.

True, the committee has the final say but now that MSTR ticks every box with sustained earnings, denial would look like an active choice to exclude Bitcoin exposure. That makes approval more likely than TSLA’s first attempt.
