1  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS 4x EVGA SuperNova 1000's on: March 08, 2015, 10:14:28 PM
Selling four of my EVGA PSU's. They are SuperNova 1000Watt G1's, modular 80+ gold rated. All are like new bought from NewEgg and only used from August to January. All come with their original boxes, all modular cables, papers, etc. Warranty on these is supposed to be 5 years, I never sent in for the warranties so the buyer may still be able to do that and get fresh warranties on them I'm not sure. Price is $95 each plus 15 shipping each, paid in BTC. I currently have 4 left but they are listed on Ebay for $109 with watchers so quantity may change. If buyer wants escrow you set everything up and pay the fee through someone reputable like OG.

4  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] 4.5TH 10X Antminer S3's (US) on: February 06, 2015, 09:26:06 PM
Hello all. I have 10 Ant S3's (PSU not included) I'm wanting to sell as one lot or possibly 2. $1100 $1000 for all 10. Payment in BTC according to whatever the price of BTC is at the time of purchase plus shipping. I'm new to selling here but have over 300+ feedback on Ebay all 100% positive. If I remember correctly I ordered all of these from Batch 4 sales and they've all been in a cooled room. I'm not too familiar with Escrow but may be willing to go that route through a reputable Escrow if the buyer wishes and is willing to pay the fee. Shipping will likely be 20-25$ per miner through FedEx or UPS Ground. US shipping only.
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Power Supplies and Current Miners: Starting a Reference List on: January 04, 2015, 05:33:13 PM
I power 16 overclocked Ant S3's with 8 EVGA SuperNova G1's. They are gold rated, modular, come with enough cables to power all 8 ports on two S3's, and come with their own plug that snaps on to the motherboard cable so you don't have to shove paperclips in the holes to run it without a motherboard. One of the best you can buy IMO. Had them running for 5 or 6 months straight now with not one issue.

Does Dogie or anyone know anything about the S5 it looks like they are going to announce soon? I seen a picture on their FB that has a bunch of S5 info pamphlets it looks like they were handing out and a big poster board on the side that says S5 Coming Soon. Probably shoulda waited on ordering my last few miners.  Undecided

I'm thinking of buying 3 or 4 Antminer S3, but right now I'm puzzled about getting proper power supplies for these.

  • Such EVGA 1300 G2 is quite pricey, are there any cheaper alternatives?
  • Can 3 Antminer S3 be powered by a single EVGA 1300 G2 without problem?
  • When overclocking 3 or 4 Antminer S3, how do you solve the power supply issue with 4 power connections each S3 (since a EVGA 1300 G2 only comes with 6 cables)?
  • What's the power draw of an Antminer S3 when running at 250 MHz?

I'm assuming the 1300 has the same setup or better than the 1000 G1. There are 6 pcie cables but 4 of them have single pci connectors on the ends and 2 of them actually have double pcie connectors on the end, effectively giving you 8 pcie per power supply. I have 16 Ants running off of 8 EVGA 1000 G1's, all with all 4 connectors plugged in and they've all been doing great since they arrived.

I have 8 Antminer S3 coupons.

Value:= 0.075

Looking  0.06 for each coupon.

Not worth the time for that kind of margin.  It's a coupon not a gold coin.

Lol, but you could save a whopping $8 on your next S3 purchase.   Grin

Yeah, if $8 off is going to make a difference for you, you have no business buying these rainbow machines.

I finally received mine the other day and UPS did indeed charge me money on drop-off. It had something to do with that "no tax id or deferment #" on package message and the driver didn't know if it was UPS charging the fee or customs charged UPS the fee and inturn they charged it to me. He said in 10 years he's only had this happen one other time. Either way, Bitmain needs to make sure all the proper tax id/info stickers are placed on their shipments.  Angry It was only 32$ but the driver of course did not accept cash (or bitcoin), so I had to talk him into following me all the way uptown to the post office to get him a money order before he would give me my packages.

By the way, for those discussing PSU's above, the EVGA Supernova 1000 G1's are the way to go. One of the best psu's by far and they come with everything you need to overclock 2 ants. 4 single pci and 2 double pci for a total of 8 pcie plugs and these psus also come packaged with the power strip clip to be able to run them without a motherboard...so no more shoving paper clips and crap in the holes.  Grin Newegg has them for 154.00 I bought 8 when they had the bitcoin 10% off deal and they are superb.

Looks like you guys were right. I blocked the door open about 3 inches and in just 5 minutes the temps have already dropped off quite a bit. So all that work I put into sealing and insulating that room to keep the AC in was all for nothin.  Roll Eyes So now the question is where to cut an intake hole? Top above the ants and psu's so maybe some of the heat from the psus will escape or under the desk as mentioned to maybe pull in some of the cooler air from the floor? Both seem logical but I'm thinking with that much suction from the fans, putting a hole at the top above the units is just going to draw warm air from the top of the barn inside so probably best to put it under the desk as Jow said...

Thanks for the replies. It's been right around 90 here with 65% humidity. Just checked on them again and some of them are running 49-50 degrees now. I'm going to prop the door open a few inches and see if that drops the temps any. If it does at all then I'll cut me a small opening in the back.

.
.
Finally got this setup finished. Built a custom server room in my pole barn to house all the ants. I figured they would run nice n cool with a small air conditioned room and the ants exhausted out the back. but that doesn't look like the case. I'm seeing temps on most of them up around 47 and 48 degrees even with the ac on high. I'm not sure if it's because all the PSU's are so close to the ants that it's sucking in the warm exhaust from the psu's, or just need a bigger AC, or maybe something wrong with the airflow of the room. The ants are creating suction in the small room, so much it whams the door shut and there is a noticeable difference in the sounds the fans are making while the door is open vs the door being shut. When it's shut it sounds like a vacuum when you put your hand over the hose. Is 47-48 not OCed still acceptable or should I worry about getting them down and suggestions on doing that which doesn't require moving the Ants.  Undecided

Has anyone in the U.S. had problems with customs? My packages got held up and had a status of "A valid tax ID or deferment number is missing and is required for clearance." They were in Anchorage, Alaska when I got that status update. Customs and/or UPS is telling me Bitmain didn't put a tax ID on the boxes and they had to have my SSN and I'm going to be required to pay a tax on them now. What the hell...

I doubt you will pay tax. Perhaps a small brokerage fee if that. I had this kind of thing with Bitmain, or maybe it was Spondoolies, don't remember. Just call UPS, supply the required paperwork, you may need to fill out an FCC form too.

They called at 7:30AM this morning. They just wanted my SSN and didn't say I needed to fill out any other forms or provide anything else. They said something about having to pay 32$. I hope that's for all 14 boxes and not 32$ each.  Huh I don't know why I'm being required to pay anything else at all, what a bunch of BS. Bitmain needs to start putting required info on their packages!

of 4 units:

a) 231.25MHZ = 452Gh
b) 218.75MHz = 429GH (one chip is shown as -  though, so presumably im losing about 12GH)
c) 250MHz = 502.5GH
d) 218.75MHz = 428GH (one chip is shown as -  though, so presumably im losing about 12GH)

ive tried rebooting the two systems with the dudding chips but to no avail. has anyone had and resolved this issue? (with the S1 a reboot always seemed to solve it)

overall im not terribly impressed with the quality of the components bitmain used. hopefully its a batch-specific problem though and wont occur again.

I had a unit that would X chips at any clock about 218.75. Had to take it apart and reapply thermal paste. No X chips after that. Been running for 2 days on stock clock with no issues.

When you guys are re-applying thermal paste after cleaning with alchohol are you applying a thin layer with a piece of plastic/razor so the entire chip is covered or do you just put like a 1/2 pea sized drop in the center of each chip and let the heatsink smoosh it around?

All my S1's and S3's reconnect automatically, they always ping and look for connection by themselves.
You have something wrong, bad internet maybe ?

I'm not sure what's going on. I have a S1 still and I don't have to unplug it or anything. Just the S3's. As soon as i unplug the ethernet and plug back in they are fine again for awhile. What gives?
18  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 22, 2014, 11:34:08 PM
How do I make S3's auto-reconnect?? They will hash away for hours then I'll come to my Ant room to check on them periodically and they will be beeping and not hashing like the internet has blinked out and they didn't reconnect. I keep having to power them off for a few seconds, unplug ethernet, plug back in and reconnect ethernet then they start hashing away again until the net blinks out again later. Very annoying.

Mine are due to arrive Monday.
So what cut-off frequency have testers found for needing 2 pci-e vs 4 pci-e? Can you get by with 2 cables for frequencies 225 and 237 but need 4 cables for 250??
